I live on a major college campus in the South, and back in January began putting a concerted effort into improving my day game.

After experimenting with a variety of approaches, I’ve come up with an all-purpose indirect opener that has made approaching MUCH easier, as it can be customized to nearly any girl, in any situation, yet doesn’t suffer the drawbacks of either typical direct approaches (scares the cat) or most indirect openers (not enough attraction, too easy to be mistaken for a friendly chat).

In the interest of furthering the general discussion though, I will post my thoughts on college approach strategies in general, and why the typical direct and indirect approaches are apt to backfire with this new crop of younger girls.

Direct

I’ve always preferred direct approaches, as it’s more compatible with my type-A personality. I don’t like wasting time, and pretending to talk to girls about their laptop/backpack/other situational openers always felt too incongruent (and I think the girl could sense that).

I figured sure, I’d get blown out more often, but it would make filtering out girls that were actually into me that much faster/easier. I also assumed that the confidence/boldness of direct approaching would translate into increased attraction, or at least separate me from the milquetoast hordes of beta males so prevalent on college campuses these days.

However, what I’ve found is that any type of direct, “Hey I saw you and thought you were cute and felt compelled to say hello” type openers are simply too much of a shock to the girl’s system. I’m more apt to get a confused, deer-in-the-headlights “Uh, thank you…” type of response, followed by a quick excuse to leave, than the appreciative, oh-wow-this-confident-guy-thinks-I’m-attractive-let’s-talk-to-him-and-see-where-it-goes reaction that I’d be hoping for.

Most of these girls, especially if they’re under 21, have simply never experienced anything like this and just aren’t socially calibrated enough to process what’s happening. Their entire dating/sexual paradigm has been limited to either

-dating apps like Tinder/Bumble

-Long-term social circle courtship, where both parties are “talking” for an extended period of time (often weeks or months) prior to hooking up in order to feel each other out so as to not risk the stigma of rejection

Having an in-person conversation in general is tough enough for these girls, who have grown up on social media and iPhones and can barely handle real-time responses when they’re used to spending hours crafting the perfect text. Processing the completely novel experience of having a guy express his sexual intentions overtly, while sober, in broad daylight, is simply too much for them to handle.

Indirect

So, after crashing and burning through several months of direct approaches I switched to a GALNUC-type indirect approach, as put forth by Roosh in Day Bang. I’d find a situational reason to chat a girl up, spend ten or fifteen minutes talking, tell her I thought she seemed cool and that we should hang out/grab a drink sometime, and then ask for her number.

At this point, one of two things would happen:

-The girl would suddenly realize I was hitting on her, not just making friendly chit chat, and turn me down.

-I’d get a number that would go nowhere.

While direct approaches are tough because the girl has most likely never experienced one, indirect approaches suffer from the opposite problem: the girl experiences these all the time.

Guys from class chatting them up about the latest lecture, strangers asking for directions, people making conversation while waiting in the lunch line or at a crosswalk…girls are actually approached by strange guys all the time, although very few make their intentions known or follow-through by requesting a date/number.

It’s way too easy for a girl to mistake my indirect opener as just another fellow student making conversation on his way home from class, and unless you’re exceptionally good-lucking I imagine you’ll have the same trouble that I’ve had in expressing sexual intent.

It’s particularly hard to transition from innocuous chit chat to outright flirting without coming off as a creep, but establishing attraction is paramount, especially in getting the hotter girls to take time out of their oh-so-busy schedules to meet up with you. Perhaps there's something I'm missing here, but it seems much more difficult to insert a flirtatious frame ten minutes into a friendly conversation than to start with that frame from the get-go.

The solution, I’ve found, is to combine bold, direct body language and eye contact with indirect wording. You want to start off with a flirty, sexual frame, but without being overtly flirty or sexual. It’s a tough needle to thread.

My first stab at this was a gym opener:

Quote:"Excuse me, I don't mean to interrupt your workout, but I just had to let you know that you have a great looking..."

At this point I pause, blatantly look her up and down, make eye contact, smirk, and then finish with

"...workout routine."

This was an improvement, but still a tad bit too direct. And it didn’t really give a girl much to work with, so many would just say thanks, and I'd be stuck following up with boring questions about her workout or forced to ask her out before establishing much rapport.

My latest opener combines the cocky/flirty vibe with much more indirect phrasing, and allows for some extended ramble so the girl can adjust and ease into the conversation once she realizes I’m flirting with her. I like it so much that it’s now pretty much all I use (and yes, it's gotten me laid).

Again, I’m happy to share it with members via PM, and would welcome any feedback/constructive criticism.

In the meantime, if anyone else has anything to add concerning the mindset of a typical undergrad girl and/or the current social milieu, I’m sure others here (in addition to myself) would appreciate it.

It's on. I live right in the middle of 2 major universities in my city. There are sexy young girls walking around everywhere. This is too much of distraction for me to ignore.

Hooked up with a cute 19-year-old last Sunday. She hadn't even finished unpacking when I got back to her halls of residence. She will be the first of many this year.

'What are you listening to?'

My new opener for girls wearing headphones. Nothing ground-breaking but it works for me. The girl was of mixed-race complexion, tall and slender. Her pert bum jiggled as she walked ahead. I had to jog to catch up with her. She was one of many young girls walking around University campus today.

'Fabolous', she replied. 'The rapper'.

My interest and taste in music has changed over the years. I rarely listen to hip hop these days, but if I recall correctly, Fabolous hadn't released any new material in years. I concluded that she wasn't as young as I'd thought, perhaps closer to my age. I immediately felt less creepy.

'I need help updating my iPod playlist. It's been the same for years.' Witty I thought but I only managed to arouse mild interested. She maintained her pace. I fired some interview questioned at her:

'What's your name?'
'You live around here?'
You study here?'

Her name was Nadine, a 2nd year nursing student. She was on her way to meet a friend. I went for the time restraint number close:

'Well you seem cool, I gotta be somewhere so I'll grab your number now and we'll go for a coffee next week'.

She politely declined, 'I'm sure I'll see you around campus though'.

I laughed and continued on my way.

She will be one of the first of many girls I approach here. It's been almost 10 years since I last set foot on a university campus. I must have been a fool not to take advantage then. Endless girls here. With the benefit of hindsight, excellent logistics and a bit of game, I won't make the same mistake again.
