Tinder is fine to start out. You should get 100+ matches in the first week.

Some extra info. Bored girls working in stores/cafes are another good way to meet girls.

Just came back from hcm. Stayed 5 days in Hanoi and a week in HCM and did pretty well.

Me
-30s Latino light brown skin
-Muscular body gym rat. (this helped a lot)
-Good game coming from a big USA city.

Stayed
-Airbnb in district one. Nice place with balcony overlooking the city. Very safe. Private security. Rooftop bar and pool. Girls loved it.

Game
-Went on tinder and Vietnam Cupid and matched up with around 20-40 girls (don’t remember lol) by the time I landed I already had dates set up. Girls seem very easy to chat with and open to meeting for drinks.

Overall I think I did well. Met 7 and banged 4 (all very pretty girls) and all on the first date. I could of done more but than I probably wouldn’t of enjoyed my vacation. Chasing girls takes up a lot of time and effort and I really wanted to try the food and do tours (Halong Bay in Hanoi was amazing)...
Also I ended up really connecting with 1 girl I met. We spent most of the week together and I even slept over her house couple of nights. She drove me to the airport on my last day and she cried after we said bye. We still keep in contact and I hope to see her again someday.

Finally....
GREAT place for a Latino man. The popularity of the music has been spreading all over the world (thank you Justin Bieber). Every bar you can hear Spanish reggaeton/hip hop music playing and girls loved it once I told them I spoke Spanish. They were very curious about the culture and the music. Maybe I should start a salsa dancing school over there lol.

Overall
I love Viet girls. They are VERY BEAUTIFUL and I had a amazing time even when it was just food and conversations and no sex. I would def go back to enjoy the culture more. Overall great first experience in SEA for me

I'm American born Vietnamese and I'm about 80% fluent. Also, I can easily get by as some other type of Asian so I like to just speak English sometimes and listen in. Haven't ever heard anything horrible yet.

For rainy seasons, its best to do a dinner date with your birds at your apartment. Arrange to meet at a cafe near your apartment. After coffee, say 'its raining, there's no where we can go, I'll cook something for dinner, come lets go."

You could do a grocery run with the girl at the supermarket, it's a huge comfort builder and then off to your apartment you go. Read Tuth's first date bang from this part onwards.

My company will be relocating me to HCMC later this year, and I was wondering what kind of relocation package I should try to negotiate. I was there last year for 2 weeks, so I have a feel for what food, drinks, transportation costs, but not so sure about rent, utilities, health insurance, and actual living costs. I looked on craigslist at some of the apartments in D7, but was wondering if those are "foreigner-priced".
Could some of the expats there now (or those w/ recent living experience) give some rough monthly estimates on living expenses?
I'd be looking to rent a 1BR semi-fully furnished apartment in D7 w/ at least a pool, gym, and hi-speed internet.
I'd also be eating out mostly and would be going out often to build up a social network, with both other expats and locals.

I spend $2,000 to $2,500 per month living in HCMC. That includes rent, electricity and water for a fully furnished brand new 1BR condo in D4 that has gym, pool and 35Mbps Internet. The rent is $600 per month with a 12 month contract. Also, I pay for a separate gym membership since I train boxing. In addition, I eat out 100% of the time, mixing high end western places with Vietnamese mid range restaurants. I go out about 2-3 times per month. Finally, I don't have a motorbike and use Grab 2-4 times per day.

I have an expat health insurance that's valid at most of the quality private hospitals in HCMC. I pay about $50 per month for that insurance.

PS, I am in my early 40s so I value comfort and quality above all else. I am sure a younger guy can cut these costs down if they want to.

I use IMGlobal. Yes it's valid everywhere, including the US.

To clarify, I am only insured for emergencies. For smaller things I pay out of pocket.

Are you Korean? If so D7 might be good for you. Lots of Korean expats out there. If not, I'd avoid. It's boring and pretty far out from the action. You will definitely need a bike or the taxis get real expensive. I stayed there for a few weeks previously.

@Buakaw, thanks for the detailed posts! I'm in my early 30s but like comfort and quality myself. Your figures sound about right for me, too. I'd love to get you a few rounds of drinks in person after I've settled in! I think I will find out my transfer date within weeks.

@Bushido, yeah, I'm Korean. My company is located in D7, which I've been hearing is where most the Koreans live and work. So ideally I'd like to live somewhat close to work. I'm not really looking to connect with other Koreans outside my company for the time being as I feel it'd take longer to acclimate to the new environment. It didn't seem too far away from D1 on Google maps, but with the traffic there, distances will probably seem farther than they are.
I think I will have to adjust to the crazy scooter infested roads before even beginning to consider getting my own bike even though I've driven a scooter for over 7 years in Seoul. But I will probably end up getting one before long! I am definitely ok with taking grab motos instead of airconditioned cabs though.

I'm actually at Sunrise City in D7 right now. Yes, all I see are Koreans for the most part. At this condo in particular, it's not much of a drive to the busy parts of D1 because it's right off the main road up, Nguyen Huu Tho.

It's cool and all but a bit boring. I mainly only run into Viet girls that are with their Korean men. It's just not as happening in terms of the food and drink options at the bottom floor. Vivo City in D7 is a busy mall for daygame though. Just got a cutie's number tonight.

I'm transferring to Vinhomes in D1 where a lot of expats and overseas Viets stay. As a point of reference, it's actually further from Vinhomes to Bui Vien (5+km) than Sunrise City to Bui Vien (~4km).

Lots of new condos coming up in D7, but will be more hassle to D1 usually.

But as stated before, it's the district of choice for Koreans.

Surely it can still occur but I wouldn't say it's the norm at all.

It's now more common than ever for a good percentage of girls to be aware of how much more improved their lives and their families' lives can be when marrying a guy from a developed country. So families have no problem letting girls seek out such relationships on their own.

One thing that does still go on, especially in rural cities neighboring another country (Cambodia I've heard and I assume China), is poor families may marry off their daughters in exchange for a fee. And there are more positive reports than negative that the daughters are well taken care of.

*sigh* Then there are the abductions and selling of girls to men in China.

Nothing surprises me anymore in Nam.

China has to deal with the massive gender imbalance from their policies on children.

I'm curious what the weather is like during June to August in Vietnam. I heard it rains a tonne and is extremely hot I'm dropping down in the middle of June but I'm a bit worried about the hot temperature. Last time I came in Jan-Feb it was flaming hot there. I had to take multiple showers each day.

Also what is the motorbike thief situation currently like in Vietnam,especially HCMC? I'm going to be bringing my camera, gimbal, and mini tripod with me to film but I am worried that some prick thief on a motorbike is gonna drive by and try and snatch my gear.
