Here's the scenario: Pub with tables. A group of 7 girls, 2 guys drinking at a table. I was with two other friends (both guys) at the adjacent table. Only 3 of the 7 girls are engaged in the conversation. The other 4 are either looking at their cellphone, bored as fuck or yawning.

What would be the best way to open such a group?

When girls are on their cellphone, I talk about how people these days come to the bar and just stare at their phone without engaging in the conversation. (in funny teasing way)

I'd position myself to get eye contact with one of them. Depending on the response I might not even bother. If I do get something, I'd reposition myself, maybe ditch my guy friends for 15 minutes and sit at the bar and wait for the girl to get a drink or use the bathroom. Once she isolates, move in.

Look at the ones that are texting, tap one on the shoulder or say "hey" and say "You two aren't texting each other are you? That would be pretty lame..." -shit eating grin- You'll be in.
