Though, as you can see above, I agree with the consensus here (especially in the general sense with alimony), the Dog Whisperer's case is slightly different. I used to watch this show religiously (it helped my game big-time), and eventually got to respect the guy enough to read his story. His wife, Ilusion, actually helped him quite a bit in building the business. She did a lot of day-to-day shit and, I want to say, even did a lot of work on the production of the TV show.
Even though that may not be worth the dollar amounts mentioned here, this isn't your typical stay-at-home, open-your-legs, gain weight American-wife agenda.
I didn't know that, and it does change the calculation somewhat, but I would still argue that the appropriate amount of compensation would be the opportunity cost of hiring someone to do whatever it is she did. I doubt that a regular worker with a similar level of involvement in his business would be making 23K a month at this point. She's still getting money she didn't earn solely by virtue of the fact that Cesar's ass was dumb enough to sign a marriage contract in America.

Quote:After his wife filed for divorce almost two year ago, Cesar Millán is finally a married man no more.
In the divorce documents, obtained by TMZ, Millan’s financial situation with his now ex-wife is described in detail.
Earning an impressive $170,000 a month, the "Dog Whisperer" was ordered to pay his ex, Ilusión, a one time amount of $400,000 along with a monthly pay out of $23,000 for spousal support.
But because the couple have two children, sons Andre and Calvin, Millán must also pay an additional $10,000 every month in child support.
While Milan is losing a lot of money in a divorce, what he is gaining is media silence.
The divorce documents include a clause that stimulates that any "intimate, personal and/or private information about the other party ... including details of their personal and/or sexual relationships" must remain confidential.
This also includes any "photograph, film, videotape, recording” of Millán, “which is not commercially available."
Millán and his wife were married 18 years ago in 1994 before he became a household name as the “Dog Whisperer.”
In June 2010 Millán announced his divorce. Details of the divorce later came out to show that Ilusión was seeking primary physical custody of their two boys, but that Millán would have visitation rights.
Most recently, Millán was part of Hispanicize 2012 in Miami, an event "focused on Latino trends and trendsetters in social media, entertainment, marketing and media.”

I wonder how many more "high" profile divorce rape cases it will take before men wake the fuck up. Either that or you just assume it won't happen and get out while you still can.

She did much more than your typical lottery winner, or a kid with rich parents, and people aren't get pissed off at them. There must be something else.
Quote:While the settlement may not have been imposed by the court, it was certainly influenced by previous judgements. Knowing that if you do not settle the court will impose similar, or worse in his case, financial penalties it behooves one to come to an agreement.
This seem to be a very common fallacy in manosphere. However this is not true. If you know the court would give you worse terms, this would mean in case like that that the another party would receive more than she'd otherwise do. Then why would she settle? She'd better go to trial, as she'd get those things anyway and maybe even more. What is the logic behind the settlement here, could you please explain?
Quote:To imply that spousal support being tax deductible minimizes any financial penalty shows a lack of business sense. He isn't taxed on it because he essentially never earned it. His income went from 170K/month to 147k/month.
Unfortunately your comparison is wrong, as you based it on an option of not paying her anything - which obviously wasn't an option at all. Now assume the court would not impose any spousal support, but would impose $30K a month child support. Which one would be better?
Quote:So yeah, I'd say he got penalized pretty heavily.
Well, from your numbers it looks like his pre-taxable income went down only 14%. This doesn't look like "rape" to me at all.

RE: Dog Whisperer Cesar Milan Gets divorce Raped
I give oldnemesis credit for bringing some of these threads back down to earth. There's times when the man-o-sphere starts to sound like the bizarro version of Jezebel and Feministing. We are men and we should pride ourselves on being rational and not looking for feminist boogeymen (boogeywomen?) behind every rock.
Milan wasn't "raped." He agreed to this deal; it wasn't forced on him by the court. At worst, he was divorce-coerced. Or divorce-gamed. Also, he was married to this woman for sixteen years and it sounded like she contributed to his success. Maybe he's closeted and this is hush money. Maybe he's been stepping out on her and this is a payment to make her go away privately. Who knows?
Compare that to Nas, who was already successful when he married his wife and who he was only with for four years:
Quote:Nas married R&B singer Kelis in Atlanta after a two-year relationship.[50][51] On April 30, 2009, a spokesperson confirmed that Kelis filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.[52][53] Kelis gave birth to Nas's first son on July 21, 2009, although the event was soured by a disagreement which ended in Nas announcing the birth of his son, Knight, at a gig in Queens, NY, against Kelis's wishes.[54] The birth was announced by Nas via an online video.[55]
Ever since the couple split, just months before the birth of their first child together, Knight Jones, they have been battling it out in court over support payments. In December, a Los Angeles superior court judge ordered Nas to bump up his monthly child and spousal support payments from $40,000 to $51,000, for a total of more than $600,000 a year. The couple's divorce was finalized May 21, 2010.[56]
That is a divorce raping.
