Also you are right about the shoes. The shoes I normally wear out are $200 loafers and rain/mud is terrible for them.
Why are your clothes getting so ruined just because of the rain? Wet of course, but how is water damaging them? They get wet when they are washed. Shoes obviously can when it's wet and dirty out.
Quote:I do think that kho san is a good place to find very foreigner receptive girls. I think the key though here is you really need to stand out from everyone else and make yourself look unique. There are a ton of european/western guys here but most are backpackers and very similar terms of the way they dress/act. You will mostly find meatheads, hipsters, and a jersey shore type crowd and they TYPICALLY do not really dress up. I think if you would put yourself in those categories it would be more difficult to find girls unless your game is really tight or you are very good looking - there is a lot of competition.
I think I am doing alright there because I do not act or dress like most of the other guys. I tend to dress like I would going to a club in NYC or at the very least how I would dress at a country club (nice chino shorts, button down, boat shoes - I only wear this to kho san road though).
If you're wearing shorts, chino or otherwise then you've not distinguished yourself from them enough IMO. Cool if it's working for you but for me personally shorts are never acceptable to wear out at night (if I'm venturing out into central BKK to the malls, cinema, for lunch etc in the day time I won't wear shorts, stick a pair of jeans on) and definitely not to a club even if it is some crappy backpacker club on Kowsan road full of people in sandals, swim shorts, vest tops and baseball caps on backwards or the alternative, the wannabee hippie with the fisherman pants, thai die top and dirty dreads. I'd just rather not be associated with them at all and to me shorts lumps you in the same category, though I don't think the Thai girls going there care (otherwise they wouldn't be there) and the backpacker girls are all dressed just as bad and don't care either so maybe it's irrelevant.

Date was with a girl I've met many times so was fine though I haven't felt quite right all day, a bit on edge / anxious and I'm not sure why. Was feeling a bit strange all day. We usually have great fun but it was all a bit flat tonight, probably because I wasn't on top form. I decided to call it a night early and refuse guaranteed sex. That's something I don't do often.

Like, can't-move-from-your-table packed. It's a wonderful sight, but expect more than a few of them to be coked-out models who are "deep" in the music (see below).
Downside: it's where music, and your eardrums, goes to die. The worst things ever come out of those speakers, I don't care if you like that type of D&B "music," it's terrible. Don't expect to hold conversations with people, even those standing next to you.
So many Thai clubs are like this, especially a lot of the HiSo clubs, ear bleed music so that conversation is impossible and I've shit hearing at the best of times. Coupled with trying to speak a combo of badly pronounced Thai and her English not being great it can lead to very frustrating times.
Quote:Re: Khao San - why? Khao San is fun for some of the hidden joints along it that are mostly young/hip Thai joints (Hippie de Bar, and the indie rock joint someone mentioned earlier in this thread), perhaps for a second date with a Thai girl or place to go with some friends. Meeting girls? A million better places in BKK. Not saying it's a bad place for this per se, just way inferior, and you have to deal with backpacker-ville. Plus it's out of the way, depending on where you live.
No one is claiming Kowsan is the best place but there are some good majority Thai bars in the Kowsan area (most are not on Kowsan Road) but on Thanon Rambuttri (Molly Bar, the one across from Molly Bar, Club Deep and 999 West can be OK) then you've got Brick Bar and Rooftop on Kowsan Rd it's self. Not the biggest fan of Hippie Bar, quite boring the twice I've went. Then all the thai bars on Phra A Thit Road and a few on Samsen 13 which are decent for dates if you want dinner and drinks, a few of them have jazz and blues if that's your thing and there's a cool bar (no idea on the name) playing Britpop and old UK indie music I like, quite lively Thai crowd at the weekend.
The reason I've been so many times as I stay just a few minutes walk away and when I'm arranging first dates with girls and they ask where I live and find out it's near Kowsan Rd they often say they've never been and ask if we can go. Perfect for me as I'm familiar with the area, know some good places for food, good bars, friendly with some staff in the bars AND the most important thing it's in walking distance to my place and there's a 24hr bar and restaurant next door to it with a nice vibe and decor that girls just seem to love. I take them there for the final drink of the night then it's back to my hotel guaranteed if I've gotten her that far. If I go out in RCA, Sukhumvit, Thong Lor, Ekkamai or wherever else I'm miles away from where I live, don't know the areas so well and her house might be closer to where we are than my place is. Lessens my chances.
Lots of backpackers but also lots of Thais too these days, tonight in Molly Bar and the place opposite not a single farang in the place. When I was at Kowsan Road last Saturday the whole street had almost as many Thais as farang. Plus there were tons of farang hunters in The Club as mentioned.
If you don't live near bye and are not familiar with the area I wouldn't recommend taking a girl there unless she really was keen to see it and you knew it well enough to know where to go. Girls have loved getting the kowsan tour if they've never been and if you're on a date with a Thai girl it's because she likes farangs so she'll probably like kowsan.
Anywhere can be out the way depending on where you live. It is however cut off from Sukhumvit, most public transport and so on which can be an annoyance but it's helped me more than it's hindered me when its come to laid.
Anyway I'm going on a bit now, a little drunk maybe, so I'll leave it at that.
