I've used my rep points to get laid. I directed a girl to the forum. She read a little. Saw my rep and didn't bother giving me any resistance. She knew that I would be able to get right past it with one of my voodoo mind fucks.

I had the idea before but I never mentioned of having some military type medal system where you have rank. Different sections of the forum and posts could get up voted and after a certain amount you get something like this.

Different bars for different things. There could be one for successfully trolling Jezebel. etc. Plus it would look cool under your avatar.

This is the best alternative idea so far (mainly because I had it myself). Laugh

I like a Boy Scout Merit Badge model. Random accomplishments gets you a new badge. I don't know how plausible it is, but it's the coolest idea, for sure.

Look closely at the original post:

That small minority is out there, and you can find plenty of examples of relatively selfless behavior beyond wikipedia.

The point is not to say that they do not exist. The point is to say that within the grand range of human behavior, selflessness is not exceedingly common, and instances of it are relatively obscure in the aggregate. Most human action is driven by some form of incentive, be it economic, social, physical or otherwise.

This is our nature, and there is no escaping it.

There you go Neil! Stick up for the boys!

Just don't get too worked up about that guy's threads, mijn vriend. You'll notice that the only person that really pays any attention, or reply's to them is him!

All of the things he writes are just compilations of things any idiot can read online.

That Entropy guy put up some fake pictures and I called him on it. Then he said I sent him some private messages when he clearly sent them to me first. He just went ahead and said I was "hating" for calling him on his lies, it was strange.

Guys like him might be a problem if the reputations come back.

Somebody like the great Neil Skywalker can put up real solid info that he obtained himself, versus somebody like Dash Global or this Entropy shitsucker who can just make things up. How do you really know who's real if you never meet them? It also creates skepticism as to who's real and who isn't when people like Entropy exist.

And I think the people that think quality is down are wrong. There's just a lot of new guys, and it's only been a month since the reputations have been gone.

Maybe it just takes the new guys a little while to realize what to say and what not too? You gotta let them get acclimated.

Aloha!

RE: Reputation status update
I'm a newb here, but I'd like to see some sort of recognition system. Maybe not the old rep system given all the ways it was being gamed, but some way to give credit to the guys who are dropping great ideas and data sheets. A Hall of Fame for threads is good, but I'd like to see credit given directly to the member himself.

I like emech's medal idea. And I'd like to see the forum do away with stars/title based on post count alone. Replace that with badges/medals that are earned.

Lets see what valuable gaming lessons Entropy can teach us with his "love for the game" :

A thread about literature and philosophy aka "Look mommy, i can copy/paste lists of boring books" : /thread-10583.html

A thread about science and technology aka i can copy/past medical fancy articles too: /thread-10584.html

Things i will never own myself and fantasize about thread: /thread-10565.html

Lets looks for betas in the news because i have nothing better to do thread : /thread-10585.html

and last and least : The ever interesting financial trading thread , really helpful with opening girls and sealing the deal : /thread-10585.html

Your love for the game surely teaches us a lot about getting girls in exotic countries, something this forum is about.

In all your threads you are either posting copy pasted articles by others and long boring lists OR doing all the posting yourself. I know some one her also called you out on all those financial graphs and you copy pasted that too from others.
Sort of copy/paste troll so to speak.
Stop degrading others and start posting some real datasheets or game threads.

This forum is about lifestyle as well. Not all of us want to be broke backpackers in our 30s and 40s.

I don't think it is your call whether people should post in certain areas or not. Let them post what they feel they can contribute in any area of the forum.

Badge is not a bad idea, but it reminds me of kindergarten when you got gold stars for participating.

I guess I'm still not convinced that a big reason people are sharing is because of points. I have looked at how many replies a thread of mine has gotten, but I never cared about points. Maybe people are motivated by different metrics.

Personally, I think the forum would be just as popular today if you never had a rep system to begin.

It isn't like people don't see quality posts from the same people. It takes time to acclimate to the forum culture. That isn't a bad thing. With time spent, you start to know who you're interested in reading and who you're not.

I never used the rep system to ascertain who I wanted to read. I just spent time reading and figured it out when the same name kept popping up.

hahaha Perfect.

There is actually another forum I check out now and then that has military style awards just like that, so some forum software can accommodate it. No idea if mybb does...

The forum that uses them is armchairgeneral and yes, they have custom medals for various "campaigns".

Hell, this would be better than rep points.

How about a complex system where, instead of points, you a plus some-woman's-body-part? You could qualify it with modifiers.

Normal
+tits
+ass

Very Good
+nice perky tits
+plump ass

Bad
+saggy tits
+short-haired lesbian

This way, everyone gets something. Come on guys, show some love on this post. +tits me!

RE: Reputation status update
I think recognition is an important element in all human societies. Why do you get a diploma when you graduate college? It is an utterly useless piece of paper that serves no real purpose. No employer is ever going to ask for a copy of your diploma. But you may put it on the wall so everyone recognizes where you went to school.

Amazon has star ratings for products. You call for recommendations when hiring a contractor. The examples are many.

Whatever the system, I think we should have something that shows the indicia of qualiy as judged by the community. I think Roosh has indicated that something is coming. Looking forward to seeing it.

Another forum that uses this is Fatwallet.

And yeah, lots of potential with that kind of system; can get way more creative than a simple rep points system.

RE: Reputation status update
I frequent a forum that discusses style, and they have a system that I particularly like.

Here's what it looks like:

It's still highly similar to your reputation system. Except this system shows you directly which posts are particularly liked for whatever reason, be it that they were funny, helpful, highly intellectually stimulating. This allows posts that are particularly well though out to stand out from others in threads. It could also help you in constructing your hall of fame forum because you could always reference posts that have a particularly large number of thumbs ups to add to the hall of fame.

On top of this, thumbing up a post doesn't show for that member:

This means that people will still get recognition for writing really good posts, but it won't turn into some e-penis competition.
