I saw an amazing blender in Costco, thing was $549 but was amazing. The guy did a demo and put in half an apple and a orange with some of the skin on, this machine mashed it all up into a smooth juice.

Anyone own this machine?

I will get the name next week.

It's almost certainly either a Vitamix or a BlendTec. Both are amazing machines. You can compare them here:

RE: Health: Juicing
Ordered a cheap blender from Amazon that I'm expecting to be delivered any day now:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Duronic-Stainles...s=blenders

It's something I should have done years ago really. I just find that I never eat vegetables or enough fruit. My meals are just meat and rice every time with some sauce ( I suppose the sauces often have some veg in them ). I am a terribly lazy cook when cooking for myself and the idea of cooking vegetables just seems too much effort ( stupid thing to think I know ). So I'm looking forward to getting all the nutrients I have been missing out on for years into my body, I am hoping to see some improvements in my health from this. I plan to have two green juices a day and then my normal meat and rice meals. Should have all my macro-nutrient needs covered then.

I'll report back every couple of weeks to say if it has made any noticeable difference to me or not. I'm pretty excited.

Vorkuta -

Do you like Hummus?

An easy way to get down vegetables is to cut up some peppers, carrots, celery etc and eat with hummus on top.

Real easy, and no cooking involved.

Vitamix, that was it. The thing even does hot soups.

The author seems to favour the blendtec. Which machine do you have?

Am I better off getting a good juicer over a blender? I would like to incorporate more veg in my diet.

RE: Health: Juicing
My blender arrived from Amazon today. Cost 56 pounds so about $80.
[attachment=13330]

Feels well built and sturdy. Solid thick glass jug on top not plasic. Going to be mega simple to clean.
[attachment=13331]

Went to shop and spent 10 Pounds on fruit and veg.
[attachment=13332]

Chopped into pieces and ready to go.
[attachment=13333]

There is about 1.50 Pound worth of fruit and veg in the jug.
[attachment=13334]

Blended and ready to go! I actually realised after tasting that I would need to add water to it. When I did that it was smoother and gave me 2 and a half pints of juice. So quite cheap when you think what a carton of juice costs.
[attachment=13335]

Verdict...That Kale tastes like shit! First time I have ever eaten it. I will have to adjust the recipe until I find a decent combination for flavour.

So the start of a beautiful relationship with my blender. I feel healthier already!

Seconded. The first one lasted about 5 years, had to buy a new one recently.

Absolutely love it for protein shakes. It works especially well with bananas:

Mix some lean milk with vanilla protein powder and a banana and you have an awesome in-between meal that tastes like a milk shake!

And, your backyard looks nice, I love it when the kitchen opens up into a nice yard.

Vorkuta, try some banana in there mate. I found that it overpowers the taste of everything else. I always put bananas and mint leaves in mine which make it a lot better than without.

How thick was it? How much of the lemon(s) did you put in? I'm thinking of adding it to mine.

Also, I was amazed at how inexpensive it all is really.

Good call. Omelets are another way.

Spinach cooks way way way down. A pound of spinach is a huge plastic container but cooks down to a very small bowl.

Throw 1/4 to 1/2 pound of spinach in a skillet (it will look like a lot, but trust me, it will reduce like a mofo). Once that cooks down, add your eggs.

Onions and garlic are good, too. I'll saute a whole medium sized onion and a garlic glove in some olive oil. Once those are nice and golden brown, toss in the eggs.

You can also add curry powder to the onions while you're sautéing for an additional antioxidant boost.

Just don't eat the "super antioxidant omelet" before going out.

Red, yellow, and green bell peppers are all good w/eggs, too.

I eat a lot of eggs not just because eggs are a great protest source but also because eggs help you get down a lot of veggies.

When you're pressed for time, just throw on a bunch of salsa over the eggs. Salsa is high in antioxidants and is really good for you.

Costco sells huge containers of organic salsa on the cheap. I always have some in the crib.

I've had some issues recently with acidity in my stomach, also known as acid reflux.

My diet is pretty good - staple of brown rice, chicken, eggs, meat, fish, veg, fruit and nuts.

Mike could you suggest a smoothie/juice that could help redress the balance, or just go with anything green and it's good?

Just got my vitamix yesterday. I love it.

This morning I used carrots, spinach, grapes, kiwi as my mix. Tasted pretty good.

Seems like spinach, kale, celery and a fruit as a starter is good.

Certain vegetables are goitrogenic, so I would probably avoid using those raw in large quantities. Cooking usually reduces the goitrogenic compounds.

Pretty much all green vegetables are high on the ph scale so that would definitely help. Go raw for maximum effect. Cucumbers in particular have a stomach cooling quality.

From your diet it's understandable you'd have acid reflux. There's a lot of bro science when it comes to ph and it's hard to quantify or study with consistent results. Myself, I prescribe to the theory that the more calorie-dense food you consume, the more acidic your digestive tract must be to process that food, which is a potential issue with lifters or active people that need a lot of calories.

I've read studies indicating that wheat triggers high acid, but again, hard to conclude for sure.

I'll repost my green juice recipe. I can't go without this stuff daily now:

2 quarts packed baby kale
2 quarts packed spinach
2 cups packed parsley
6 sprigs mint
6 sprigs of cilantro
3 apples
3 inch segment of ginger
1 whole head of celery
1 cucumber
1/4 C lime juice

I used to have a few little issues here and there with digestion, regularity, and other stuff that I won't go into detail about, and let me just say drinking this daily has completely changed everything. On good days I drink a quart of this stuff.

"...so I gave her an STD, and she STILL wanted to bang me."

Yes, it's full of essential oils but I would go organic if using the skin. That or wash aggressively. A lot of citrus is covered in wax/oil and pesticides.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

Myth.

Juicing also doesn't give people kidney stones.

Juicing veggies reminds me of juicing steroids.

Apparently there are all of these health risks. But where are the bodies?

Where are all of these people who got goiters from juicing? Or kidney stones?

They are nowhere to be found. Yet people keep saying things like juicing will give you goiters, kidney stones, etc.
