Ofcourse not! I think we need to get over ourselves a little. Not every guy in the world is reading the RVF. This isn't CNN or something.

With big cities it obviously doesn't matter.

But your question is interesting.

I wonder how much influence on others we have.

The amount of posters is always a drop in the bucket to the readers.

Roosh, can we get some stats updates?

Even if the forum does have crazy high readership, I doubt that too many dudes are taking action on it. Remember, most people really don't know about game. Not to mention stuff like game denialists, keyboard jockeys, unambitious dudes, and guys who are looking for an LTR, or maybe just want to travel.

The forum has helped me a lot, and I'm forever in it's debt for some of the things it's done for me (get me to approach like a mother fucker, travel, and believe in myself). But I have a sinking suspicion that the forum is still pretty underground.

Is there a trend here with Miami based members creating conflicts?

Alright.

How about this solution:

We start everyone at zero rep points, except for Neil Skywalker who will have 40.

Then as everyone starts earning rep points, we make sure Neil has a minimum of 40 rep points higher than the highest poster.

Would this stop the Madness?

I think if someone gets a rep point for a thread or sheet as long as Neil comments on it he should automatically get issued a rep point as well.

It's only fair.

Laugh Laugh Laugh Laugh

I'm still for the thanks system and I think it's something we can use efficiently.
Also, if you meet up with a member you can give certain "meet-up" points. That way you can see if a member is valid.

Another option, as a peace offering to Mixx, is to give infinity rep points to those guys who want to be on rep and leave the rep system disabled for everyone who doesn't care that much. We can add a green symbol below their avatars.

Anyone notice this?

When someone leaves the forum, two things happen:

1. Some people start talking sh*t about the guy, but never did when he was here.

2. Other people defend the guy, because they are afraid he may read it or come back.

Maybe this place is like high school?

(03-07-2012 08:09 AM)Roosh Wrote:  I'll now work on getting some type of Hall of Fame system.

With the old rep system, if I wanted to view a quality post by any individual member, all I needed to do was click a green number. Each member had their own little "hall of fame" right there. This was very valuable, as there were a) lots of quality posts to sort through due to the growth of the forum's size and b) many situations in which they proved useful to link to/review down the line. The rep system made it easy to deal with both of these conditions.

Not all of the most valuable posts were obvious draws. Some were buried in seemingly insignificant threads and some were not about stereotypically "top" topics (ex: dance floor game or colombia datasheets) that would naturally tend to create more attention. I had 60 rep points, and 90% of them came from posts that did not fit this stereotypically "popular" description.

Despite their not being visibly popular, these posts could be marked via the rep system by users who (sometimes unexpectedly) found them very helpful, and they were thus easily accessed/distinguished later on (again, just click the green number).

My fear is that a hall of fame system would skip over many of these threads/posts. Without some sort of way for the users themselves to show which posts are specifically valuable and promote them accordingly, I think we lose an important benefit to the forum. You could also track any given user's major contributions with the old system-I am not sure how a new "hall of fame" system would accomplish this given its implicit lack of personalization.

The rep system did a good job getting those useful but less stereotypically popular posts out there. A "thanks" system would probably do a decent job too (though those posts wouldn't be as easy to find). I don't think a "hall of fame" system would surpass the ability of these two.
We need some sort of way for users themselves to easily distinguish top posts (and those who most often make them, even if they can be somewhat egotistical), and for said distinctions to be made easily visible to others for further browsing. Again, the rep system did this well, and it is in all of our best interests that the new system do the same.

I do not see why we cannot work to improve the old system (via some of the suggestions I made earlier, along with others) without throwing the whole thing out. It doesn't seem unfeasible at all for us to have the cake and eat it too. I don't understand the unwillingness of some here to even try this before we go with something radically new.

People seem to be leaning away from that compromise for some reason, which I think is too bad, but I guess there's not much I can do about it.

I'm sorry that the abuses of a handful of members and the growing egos of fewer still have caused us to totally abandon what could still easily be (and I would contend, already has been) a very useful system, to be replaced by one that I don't believe will be nearly as effective.

I think I'll leave this thread alone now. My two cents have been deposited more than enough so far and I think I've made my point. I like it here, and I certainly don't intend on abandoning the forum. I'll live with whatever decision is made, regardless of its effectiveness in my eyes.

The reputation system was good as a motivation but it had started to lose value. For example when two guys with good reputations fought or had different opinions one may have thought what is going on here? Also when a guy with bigger reputation than the other appeared to be goofy or wrong. All this caused some controversialism.

So the best is the classic form where your nik serves as a brand. For example some will like to read what Greek kamaki has to say some will not like it but this nick has a brand value.Like the rest so in the common subconcsious we already have a position which does not need a visible reputation mark to be demonstrated.

Seriously. I don't know if I'll be as active now the rep system has been disabled, since there will be endless need to repeat ourselves over and over and over and over about topics that were covered years/months ago.

Repeat topics were bad enough with the rep system, I expect the forum quality to drop drastically. The game forum will probably take the biggest hit.

It limited it, because smart new members could read through member's rep sheets and learn valuable data.

Now, what would a newbie do?

I think a very good example is Hencredible. He came to the forum late, and racked up a huge rep count quickly. He also, however, read through OLD POSTS using the rep system, and quickly brought himself up to speed with all the forum member's contributions. That's why he became so popular so fast.

Put yourself in a newbie's shoes: how valuable would it be to know where each member's strength's lay? Being able to read through old posts quickly and efficiently?

If people are hung up over the number, just get rid of the fucking number! It was the convenience and efficacy that mattered.

RE: The reputation system has been disabled
Rep system has become personality/popularity driven... pointless to bring it back.

A public thank you system ala the Warrior Forum would eventually morph and degenerate into a personalities and popularity contest like the rep system.

A private thank you system where only the user sees who thanks them would work in my opinion. Hit a thank you button on a post and the person gets alerted to the thank you and they can see how many thank you's they have in their profile... with nobody else seeing how many thank you's the person racked up. You can also thank a person multiple times since doing so doesn't really benefit the person doing the thanking. It's also more sincere and honest than a public rep point which encourages gaming. People get their recognition privately. This truly makes it so it doesn’t become a popularity contest or allow fanboys to hero-worship and boost someone publicly or create an animal farm “some pigs are more important than others” atmosphere. I don't need to see rep points or thank you's to know who the good posters are.

The focus should be on the content, not people or a cult of personality. For topic starting posts, adjust the 5 star rating system and make it so concrete #’s go with rating and are shown at the top of the thread… ala Amazon. This post has 20 5-star votes, 48 4-star votes, etc. Each person gets only 1 vote a day to use over the whole forum.
