St. Thomas US Virgin Islands
A good longtime friend of mine invited to his wedding in St. Thomas this summer. I looked at flights and they are very reasonable from the east coast, so I plan on attending for sure.

I'm not actually "in the wedding" so I'll have to look into my own accommodations.

Does anyone have any data on St. Thomas? This wedding is going to be fly as hell so I'm sure I'll find a lot of targets ripe for swooping. Other than that, I'd be interested in knowing what else St. Thomas has to offer.

Any data on good hotels/restaurants/clubs/bars/etc. would be much appreciated. Keep it thorough.

Thanks

Best hotel on the island easily is the Ritz-Carlton there is nothing else in the same league on St Thomas. The Red Hook area is the main hub for nightlife and shopping.

ST. Thomas is a great place if you like to fish, enjoy beaches or if you looking for some place to take the old lady, but as a swooping destination it leaves a lot to be desired. The local talent is severely lacking in quality. That just leaves the tourists and the vast majority come from the Northeastern part of the States. So you're going to be dealing primarily with loud, flip flop wearing Jersey, Pennsylvania and Mass broads. They congregate at Duffy's Love Shack and at the Fat Turtle.

^^^ I totally agree. Pilkington's assessment is accurate. I especially recommend Red Hook and Duffy's in particular. You have to remember that the island is super mountainous and driving can be difficult so games are played within self-contained resorts. I wouldn't overlook approaching during breakfast/dinner in the resorts. Probably your best bet. You'll find 2 gals vacationing together-type stuff, and obviously other wedding parties. But pickin's can be thin as Pilkington said, especially as summer is less crowded.

If you want to entertain yourself for the hell of it, cruise ships pour into Charlotte Amalie every morning and dump off throngs of people, who then march through the city all day buying duty-free jewelry. Sure you can have lots of conversations, but logistics are damn near impossible. If you want the full West Indies experience, the rough bars around Market Square are interesting, but you have to be very careful. IMO, Christansted in St Croix is more fun.

I was in St. Thomas over Christmas. You get a lot of tourist during the day because of the cruise ships, but you have to act fast because the ships leave at night. There is a senor frogs with a swimming pool.

My girlfriends mom is Dominican and I went to visit her. I felt like I was back in the DR. There are lots of Dominicans working in St Thomas. You just have to ask the taxi cab driver when the Dominicans girls are.
