As for the frat bros, let em come. Those are the dudes that drop money trying to pick up girls. They'll buy shots all night long to get into a girls pants, the bar cleans house, then the owners come in and bull the power card and take the now drunk girls "on a tour of the upstairs"

Maybe not frat bros but every bar ever has what I call the "Bro Pack" just a group of dudes rolling 5+ deep with no women in tow. They might not be jockey frat boys, they could be skinny dweebs, black clad goth dudes, or whatever, but regardless of who they are the bar LOVES these guys because as I said they're the ones that drop a lot of cash.


Any how the basic idea is to tailor the venue to the clientèle that show up. If you're in an area like DC where's there's way to many dudes, doing up real ladies nights that attract lots of women will be good for business as it'll also pull in lots of guys.

If you're at a good male/female ratio then you want to tailor the bar to be more woman friendly, dingy and divey wouldn't be good as it'll keep women away, you want neon and frilly drink specials. If you play your venue to whats around and do packages like I mentioned earlier you'll make mad money. The reason most places dont is due to corporate influence. Corporations run everything the same way always, and while it works well in some areas, in others it only works "just okay" and the bar wont necessarily go under but it wont make nearly as much as it could.

That's fine. I don't have the time to run the bar by myself. The idea is for fun more than profits. Finding a good deal on the licences is the security because they are easy to sell. If you give girls free drinks and pass out some flyers or whatever there could be a loss that day. Who cares?

Here's the benefit that makes it worth it.

How many people can say they own a bar in Florida on the beach? An 18 year old could get in on this from Toronto and instead of trying to get into bars to meet girls he'll be bartending and owning the place while he's here. This idea is innovative. He could crash there as well and keep his tip money. So what does he need? A plane ticket. That's it.

You could watch the place online. Entertainment. Get bored of it? Sell your share to another forum member approved by the group. The stories that will come out of that place will probably drive the value of the shares through the roof. I have a cousin who could run the place who's owned bars and is damn good at it. His partners made him sell the last one because their wives that they met there got sick of all the pussy getting thrown at them. They opened the bars for the same reason. Instant rockstar lifestyle. It's also a good idea for someone here to maybe run it and draw a check if they want.

There are two types of people who get into the bar business - those who want to have some fun while getting a tax write off, and those delusional enough to think they're going to make a profit.

The bar business is horrible. If you're looking to invest in something, get in a Vanguard fund or buy a rental property. The bar business is a horrible investment.

But if you're a little older, pulling running conventional game is a little harder/you're busy, and you have a little cash...It starts to make sense.

There's a 100% chance I'll be in the bar business later in life.

If you're a young guy looking to invest in a bar, I'd advise against it.

The confusion in this thread is because guys are having two different conversations.

I never read this idea as an investment. It'd be a tax write off and hobby.

If you travel to Brazil to meet women, you can't write that off.

If you travel to your bar to meet your business partners and scout locations, you can write that off.

So if you have a little cash, then the idea makes sense.

If you're a younger guy, buying into a bar would be crazy.

I've done some events at The Crowbar in Ybor, but most of my nightlife experience is with the Soho Leisure Group crew. I'm in pretty well with most of the bartenders and DJs. A few years ago I brought the crowd to the Beach Plaza for a weekend event. Generally speaking, Ybor isn't my cup of tea.

Agreed. Most bars do poorly because they're mismanaged and run by dickheads who dont have a clue. I've worked for a handful of bars in the past and almost all were owned by people who've never worked in the service industry before.

Like I said before, if you can adapt to your location and clientèle and find ways to keep people coming back AND dont piss your money away on stupid things (like opening an in house brewery even though you don't know dick about making beer or comping all the checks of all your friends all the time) you'll make money.

If you cant make money selling a $30 bottle of booze for almost $500 you're doing it wrong. Same goes for beer. You can get a keg of run-of-the-mill beer for under $100 and get 160 12floz servings out of it, selling each one for, oh lets say $3, you've now made $480.

Definitely. I'm a music nut and I've caught some amazing acts there without having to deal with ridiculous crowds. Three's SNATCH nights are a regular for me. I only go to ybor when I'm feeling like taking a tumble down the stairs at James Joyce.

I am thinking about opening a bar in Santiago, DR. It is so easy to open a bar in the DR. No licenses or permits. A radio, refrig and some tables/chairs. There are no real bars for gringos in Santiago. I am thinking about renting a house in Los Jardines (good area) and turning it into a bar on the weekends.
