I actually got this news from a female. Iceland has outlawed the genital mutilation of males. Naturally, I wonder if doctors in any other countries will pay attention.

Stats.

I think there's two possibly intertwined reasons for circumcision. First, you will find circumcision practiced as a male initiation rite in many primitive tribes. Tribal practices share a lot of similar traits around the world. This is one of them. They could be biologically influenced, influenced by deep culture or both.

The other option is that is was a practice related to health. The Torah is full of advice that probably had some mixed superstitious-observational recommendations regarding food, hence kosher. Problems with the foreskin are common today and it's possible some culture creator in the ancient world put out the trend that people should be circumcised because of that.

But because the practice is so old there is little we can do but guess. Judaism's source culture are the Canaanites, who seem to have practiced circumcision, but before that nothing is known.

I heard somewhere that circumcision in North America started to be practice because they thought it will make males stop fapping. So here we also have religious reasons, although different from usual "covenant with God" routine.

Interestingly, in Hero With a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell one can read entire chapter dedicated to male genital mutilation and why certain culture practice it. Most disgusting and weird is the account of one tribe which even may be from Australia which practiced both circumcision and vertical cutting into shaft. They make a slit in the shaft to simulate vagina. Yes, you read that correctly. They believe that unity with gods is represented through some kind of male womb/hermaphroditism belief.
Other cultures inject into this snake god which wants to suck your dick. There is always connection between sexual energy represented as a sperm and gods which want it so circumcision is some kind of a deal to prevent that.

Not a huge fan of adopting the language of those on the left. There's already a perfectly good word for the procedure- circumcision. There's no need to borrow the language of the other gender, because FGM is pretty different in regards to outcome and rationale.

Also not a huge fan of countries telling their citizens what to do with their children. Circumcision is pretty benign, outside of the very rare accidents, and isn't something the government should be encroaching on

There is the practice and then there is the stigma around ant-eater dick. Especially for American chicks and a lot of men in the US. You can't really have a conversation about it because it denigrates into a shit throwing match where "who wants a sock for a dick?" vs "we aren't mutilated bro/aren't Jewish".

Then when it gets past that stage it then descends into racial arguments where the feelings of Jews and Muslims are put on a pedestal.

Not always, sometimes it's just a small nick in the clitoral hood. There's a wide variety of different practices in regards to FGM as well, and not all of them are the full-on removal of the clitoris most people associate with the term.

Utterly irrelevant though—if it's so important for your child to have this pointless and irreversible procedure performed so they can go to Valhalla, they can have it done when they're old enough to decide for themselves that it's what they want.

While banning circumcision is a fine decision and there are even Jewish folk advocating for it (Seinfeld even alluded to it on his show), I would not equate it with Female genital mutilation. Because in their case the clit is really mutilated (with varying degrees).

For men - the process should be banned because it causes a long-lasting physical trauma for the kid (you can even measure stress levels being higher for several months after). The practice is just utterly outdated and unnecessary.

Circumcision makes no sense. If we're going to remove part of a boy's penis without his consent, it would benefit society even more to remove the whole thing.

Since we've already established it's OK to alter a boy's body, who is to say removal of the penis would be wrong per se? You can't on the one hand say "Remove this" and then turn around and say "But not that!"

We've established there is no consent, so anything goes. Hear me out before you react, please. I think I have a good argument here.

If the penis is the primary instrument of rape (which it is) and if circumcision is legal (which it is), then you'd kill two birds with one stone by simply removing the penis. Sexual assault would be a thing of the past.

But there's more. One good argument in favor of circumcision is that it helps prevent disease. Therefore, penis removal would be even better since it would prevent both disease AND rape.

Granted, men would lose out on pleasure. But paraplegics who have no sensation in their groin area can orgasm when they get their necks rubbed (and such), so this is a solution to that.

Removing the penis of boys would also be a cost-saving measure. Public and private sector buildings could get rid of urinals and only have to deal with toilets.

Furthermore, penis removal would assure equality, since men would no longer have an appendage that harms so many women.

And finally, this measure would appease both Jews and Muslims. They'd get their beloved circumcision and so much more.

Since all of these arguments have now been made public, I would like to conclude this post by stating that anyone who doesn't support removal of the penis is a rape apologist. On top of that, they're people who hate Muslims and Jews, and want to waste money and keep the sexes unequal.

Therefore, in conclusion, men who want to keep their penises intact support hate. Feel free to argue against this, but that makes you a hatemonger who supports rape.
