but, there are a lot of retired elite athletes whose bodies are wrecked, or are just totally burnt, who know more about training than any "level 1" or anyone under the age of 45.

So its not about how much they weigh, its their background. A common chubby gym trainer with a kinesiology degree and an unremarkable sports background, hell no. A former world/national/NCAA/pro athlete, definitely.

Yeah, that would have been totally fine if it was some older ex-athlete who just gave up. But no. This was a woman in her mid-twenties. I forgot to mention this in my original post.

Sadly these gyms are closing down at a rate of knots; not enough meat heads to keep them open I'm afraid.

Spit and sawdust anything (gyms, martial arts places, whatever) cater to a niche...often a niche that doesn't have any money either.

Anyone considering opening a place like this...don't...make your own perfect private gym at home or in a super cheap rented space instead.

And if there's a place like this that you frequent...support the FUCK out of it! The best way to show that there is a demand is to vote with your wallet.

I would consider hiring a fat personal trainer but absolutely would not hire a fat dietician or a weak personal trainer.

while I certainly appreciate the sentiment, I would welcome fatties to my gym so long as they are making progress and getting less fat, if they are just trying to chase dick from in shape/high value guys, that is just wrong for so many reasons.

If I owned a gym, I would have the sign up "if a fattie is talking to you, tell her to get on the treadmill!" or something along those lines.

Hiring chubby empowered "womyn" to be trainers makes good business sense. You attract the pro-fat crowd who all buy into the propaganda of fat athletes. Better looking women aren't threatened by their presence and they have a really low bar to pass. They just need to look better than the trainer which is easily achievable. For western women these days it's all about having a very low bar of personal achievement to feel self satisfaction.

For men it makes no sense to follow a fat dude unless they were a former Olympian or high echelon pro fighter or something. I would follow a fat BJ Penn.

There is no requirement to ban fatties, in fact they should be encouraged to come in and participate in self-hatred and negative self-body image until the pounds shrink away, at which point they won't need to hate themselves any more.

"I can count on one hand, literally, the number of women I have ever met that can take that kind of advice, accept it and make use of it without their epic egos setting metaphorical fire to the conversation.

Most women "looking for advice" are in reality looking for someone to validate their cosmic victimhood, because it's not really their fault, because it's never their fault. This behavioural trait isn't absent among men, but when we fail society cares not, while when women fail there is no shortage of comforting platitudes on offer from every vector.

RE: If you owned a Gym, would you hire a fat personal trainer?
I found something of interest to the forum:

http://www.dhr.ny.gov/sites/default/file...uffalo.pdf

A place called "Community Health Center of Buffalo" hired a "morbidly obese" woman as a nurse on the condition that she lose weight. They didn't want her giving exercise and nutrition advice to people if she is morbidly obese. The employer then fat shamed her. Fatty breaks down emotionally and sues. She walked away with $50k plus economic damages.

Would you take health advice from a morbidly obese nurse? I wouldn't.

RE: If you owned a Gym, would you hire a fat personal trainer?
Common lowest denominator and best way to financial success as a GYM:

+ free pizza night, free donut night, free buffet of sugary drinks
+ fat female trainers (to put women at ease, men don't care)
+ buff male trainers (neither men nor women like them fat)
+ cheap, - low threshold for membership like 10$ / month
+ psychologically manipulate your clients to not go to the gym (otherwise you would have to charge more than 10$)

http://uproxx.com/webculture/2014/12/how...o-the-gym/

Planet Fitness has got the system down pat.

Quote:So, how does a place like Planet Fitness attract a clientele that’s earnest enough to sign up for the gym but not dedicated enough to actually go?

Part of it has to do with design: They create gyms that are meant to look like bars. They are designed to make out-of-shape people feel comfortable being there, because the gyms know out-of-shape people are not likely to attend frequently once they sign up. They do that with mirrors and disco music and even massage chairs. Meanwhile, the actual gym part of the gym — the free weights and weight machines — are typically hidden away from the main part of the gym, back in a more intimidating space that those comfortable in the bar-like atmosphere would be less likely to visit. Low-cost gyms don’t actually want the body-builder types — they’d actually go to the gym more frequently — they want those who climb on the treadmill every once in a while. (I can confirm this: In the five or six years I’ve been attending my gym, I’ve visited the weight room twice, and both times, felt like an alien outsider).

Quote:Psychologically, when it comes to gym memberships, contrary to what you might think, we also LIKE the idea of long-term contracts, because it locks us into a commitment of going to the gym that we will feel compelled to follow through on. The thinking is, “Well, I’m paying $10 a month, so I HAVE to go,” except when it comes right down to it, the thinking is more like, “Well, it’s only $10. I’m not losing that much. I think I’ll have a pizza and watch The Blacklist tonight, instead.”

Speaking of pizza, I always found it strange that the gym I attend has pizza night and bagel breakfast once a month. That seems kind of self-defeating for a gym, but again, that’s part of the design. The average low-cost gym loses about half of its members each year, so in order to entice people who don’t go to the gym to sign up for another year, these gyms offer free food so at least members get something out of their membership. Many, in fact, will attend only on those days with free food — it doesn’t make them any more healthy but hey! For $10 a month, you get two slices of pizza.

Idk, it could be a good marketing opportunity if they lost the weight and got in shape. I think it might be a genuine business boost; you could have more credibility if customers know you had the same problem as them, and not only beat them but give people in the same situation a hand up.

But outside the fat powerlifter group, no. One of my personal rules is to never hire a fat personal trainer or a skinny chef.

I just realised; in nearly three years in the industry, I have seen maybe three fat chefs (and I mean a little bit chubby, not overweight). Long shifts, constant heat and surviving on black coffee and cigarettes make them lose weight like an icecube in the desert.
A few were in pretty good shape, too-weight training, boxing. Weird when I think about it.
