Here Nikolai Starikov elegantly explains why Donbass must remain a part of Ukraine. Otherwise Ukraine cannot very well prevent being used as a western (American) pawn to attack Russia.

Sorry, guys, but I'm a Westerner and a patriot at heart. Even if some Western institutions have failed, I'm not going to be a useful idiot and throw my lot behind some would-be despot with delusions of grandeur and a Napoleon complex who has nothing but contempt for me and everything I hold dear.

Putin is a petty thug, nothing more. Right now, he's in a bit of a power trip because the West's current leadership is made up of ineffectual fools who he can just bully and walk over. And ok, Europe's leadership has been comprised of useless dolts for quite some time now and all evidence suggests that's not going to change any time soon. But I think Putin's in for a very, VERY rude awakening after 2016, after the Republicans inevitably take back the White House.

LOL... you mean you are in for a rude awakening when we get NUKED! Obama did more than Bush did tbh after Georgia. The republicansactually respect Putin much more than the Dem's.

So the western values you stand for is:
feminism?
Gay marriages?

Pussy riot?

Beta men?

You sure you joined the right site? PUA hate is on the next corner!

I was thinking more along the lines of freedom of speech, secularism, democracy and whatnot. But yeah, sure, whatever...

The US had its hands tied at the time of the events in Georgia, there wasn't much they could do. And Europe, of course, as I said, is useless, and has been for quite some time.

Putin's gangsta-attitude, posturing and ambiguous threats of nuclear war may intimidate the weak-willed European leaders and the current weak-willed American leader, but again, the latter is already on the way out.

Russia is more Democratic than USA and the west...popular democracy. As for freedom of speech I don't see RT blocking negative comments the way the western media does online.

Your critique of Georgia shows your ignorance. It is well established that Georgia started the war. In interviews Bush even said he warned their president NOT to provoke RU. READING books and know GEOPOLITICS is your friend!

It should be mentioned that it is the west /NATO that started drilling next door to RU..NOT the other way around.

Neocons might be scary but they will get us all killed. RU is threatening nukes the same way NATO did during the cold war due to being outgunned by USSR..HISTORY LESSONS is your friend!

Popular democracy in Russia? Talk about a joke. The Russian people has precisely zero say in how their country is run, and never they did. The fact they're slavishly devoted to their leaders doesn't mean they actually have any real power.

Technically true, but it was a all set up by Putin, he expected Saakashvili to react the way he did so he'd have a cassus belli to invade.

The truth is once the West decides to actually get up and fight back, Russia's gonna be put in an unwinnable scenario. Yes, Russia has a large army, but they're outgunned and and outclassed by Western forces. This isn't the 1930s or 1940s, flooding your enemies with sheer numbers is no longer a reliable battle strategy, meaning there isn't much Russia can do against the West if a proxy war was to break out.

As for nukes, well... in a nuclear war, everyone loses, including Russia. So again, it's a no-win scenario for your Dear Leader Putin. And while the Russian population may be willing to die just to satisfy their leader's vanity, as they've always been, I don't think the rest of the Russian elites find the prospect of a nuclear apocalypse very appealing (well, maybe the old leftovers from the USSR do, but the new elites that emerged during the Yeltsin years will be harder to persuade, me thinks).

Yes they fell for Putin's trap in Georgia but it was still their fault. By that same logic all the coups and overthrows in FSU are the west's fault since the PNAC set the stage for it 20 years ago

Seems you don't understand Democracy...Putin does what the majority of his people want at any given time. Popular Democracy. I think you are comparing it to the west where small minority groups can lobby and pay off the gov't to support their rights/causes/etc.

Sure being a minority SUCKS in RU but that doesn't change the fact that it is a POPULAR democracy.

Ps Have you ever been in FSU?

Anyway I am done here..I will leave it to others to argue!

MAD--mutually assured Destruction was a western idea NOT a Soviet one. Ane they win since they are more likely to survive it( dachas outside the cities, Better anti ICBM systems, deep subway tunnels).

PS--Russian elites have VERY little say in gov't...they aren't UA!

No, they don't. Better ICBMs? Allow me to laugh. Dashas outside cities? Doesn't matter, the US has enough nukes to flatten Russia's entire surface. Deep subway tunnels? They'll just delay the inevitable, eventually all the survivors would starve or inbreed themselves into extinction. It's called Mutual ASSURED Destruction for a reason, you know?

Look, guys, I never had much appetite for conspiracy theories. But I understand what it's like to feel disenfranchised by the society you live in, those feelings of anger and frustration. Trust me, I know how it feels, but that's no reason to throw all logic and reason to the wind, and side with some would-be despot, nor does it excuse it. You've been shafted, and are entirely in your right to be angry about it, but there are still limits.

Lol

What exactly is your message?

Putin is an evil dictator. The USA, with or without NATO must encircle Russia, remove Putin from power and create a democracy in Russia

Otherwise Putin will conquer the world...

I think you have too much appetite for conspiracy theories.

Lol, "outgunned and outclassed". How so? When was the last war Yanks didn't embarrass themselves in? - it's easy enough to slaughter unarmed shepherds with drones and rockets from far away, what else do you got?

Quote: This isn't the 1930s or 1940s, flooding your enemies with sheer numbers is no longer a reliable battle strategy, meaning there isn't much Russia can do against the West if a proxy war was to break out.

Spoken like an optimist. There were a number of proxy wars where Americans got their ass handed to them pretty handily, like in Vietnam. Didn't take sheer numbers either.

A leader with 86% population support doesn't need to spend too much time on persuading anyone, me thinks (Dear Leader Obama must spend many a restless night trying to figure out what's up with that).

Did someone mention Russia has democracy? Popular democracy? Laugh

I didn't know a man could be in control of a country with 0 opposition after multiple elections and the ol' switcheroo trick where he became Prime Minister and again president. And before anyone mentions the USA has democracy....just don't. The US is a former colony and is now a republic.

Russia feeds its own propaganda machine. This is a country whose previous leaders slaughtered god knows how many of its own citizens and twisted it into a form of 'Glory for the Motherland' warcry. Try doing that in the EU or USA.

Russians think differently but they're still susceptible to propaganda and fools with a lot of power. Russians are a hardy people and don't easily squeal and a lot believe the bottom line about the West. This does not mean they're a democracy.

Actually, with the exception of Vietnam, the US pretty much won every war it's ever been, some more decisively than others, sure. But they have a pretty good track record overall.

Now, maintaining the occupation, that's a different story. But here, that wouldn't be a problem, as any proxy war between the West and Russia would likely be fought in Eastern Europe (Ukraine, Poland, Baltic states, etc.), and in those places, the West would actually have the support of the populace, whilst Russia would be seen as the invader.

No? Have you checked the Vietcongs K/D ratio?

Also, Putin could have 100% popular support, it wouldn't make a lick of difference. The Russian population has precisely zero input in government decisions. Besides it's pretty typical in places like Russia, for tough men leaders to have ridiculously high approval ratings. But it really doesn't matter. Putin's fate's already sealed. Like all other post-Czarist Russian leaders before, he'll start slowing down with age until eventually some younger, up-and-coming member of the KGB/MGB/Whatever the Russian state mafia happens to be calling itself that week, will usurp his power base, overthrow him, and have him murdered in the most horrible way to prove his power and authority to the rest of the cabal. And Dear Leader Putin will become a footnote in History, like so many others before him.

Yeah I realize he was a NN reject but it takes a few solid posts to do so.

In any case I already months ago broke it down, including weapon systems. If he is too lazy to READ the whole thread that is on him. But he seems to be coming across as a layman who has watched only CNN &Fox news and is drinking Hillary Clinton's KOOL AID mixed with a dosage of Mc Cain Lol

The troll is right though..Putin will be part of History soon but his replacements will be even more anti west. Liberalism doesn't stand a chance in RU anytime soon..not after Yeltsin.

Quote: ol' switcheroo trick where he became Prime Minister and again president

Nothing wrong with that..there constitution didn't forbid it. I remember watching an episode of Larry King where Larry asked Putin if he planned on doing that and Putin didn't know.
Now compare that to Mr. Bloomberg who actually twisted NYC constitution to run 3 times.

For once, we're in (partial) agreement. It seems liberal democracy is incompatible with the Russian mindset, but again, I don't particularly care. So long as whoever Russia's next dictator doesn't get too big for his britches the way Putin has, he can murder, steal and abuse his own people however much he likes. They seem to enjoy it too.

As much as I think democracy as it's generally practised almost anywhere is complete BS (i.e. the real puppet masters have long figured out how to placate the masses by letting them think they are choosing their "leader"), what makes you say that Russia has no democracy? What is your personal experience on the ground there or are you simply parroting the MSM lines?

Seriously, "try that in EU"? - you should read up on Hitler or something. USA govs have been smarter so far, - they much prefer to torture and slaughter populations wholesale in far away lands, but lets see what happens when the petro dollar goes kaput in a decade or so.
