VP, I'm kind of at a crossroads. Today I have to decide if I'm going to stay here for a while or get on a plane back home.

I do see the potential here in Davao, but I've been getting involved with the wrong kind of women. For example, the SM Ecoland girl started asking for financial help after the 2nd bang. I've gotten many numbers from other, very hot girls that work in the malls, hotels, etc. but the texts eventually die out and they flake. Maybe it's bad game on my part? Lack of patience on my part?

I've had quite a few FC girls cancel and even not show up for dates. I wonder if the girls working in malls here have had their fill of foreigners. I've had several call me a "player" or "playboy". And even a few act rude in general when there was no call to be. I assume those girls have already been pumped and dumped.

I would like to update the Davao thread with some new and rather interesting experiences I've had here, but I'm a little worried about who is reading. It's my first trip abroad and I'm learning how important it is to be as anonymous as possible, but unfortunately something happened recently to make me feel my identity has been compromised. I will post the details of that later, but other detailed trip reports may have to wait until I'm located somewhere's else.

Update: March 2014

For all visa extensions you now need to bring each time a 2 x 2 photo. And you now need 2 (two) reference persons living in the Philippines.


Is that really required? I don't want to go trolling for personal references for my visa extension.

In Manila there was a great service that would pickup your passport and bring it back all updated. Anyone know of a similar service here in Davao? I did a search and couldn't find any.

The 2 personal references are on the extension form but are not actually required to get the 6 month extension.

First part is pretty much the first thing that expat living here for some 20 years told me when I got here. It's very hard to tell which girls are as you perfectly put it "genuinely interested"

But that's only problem if you invest your emotions in them, at this point I honestly don't care if they wanna see me as status boost to their friends, count on money and me supporting them down the road ... They aren't getting anything from me anyway It never happened directly yet, but they do sometimes complain that they can't pay the rent or something like that and I just troll them back, if they would be too obvious = ignore.

The second part is hard to say... Maybe it's the age thing again, I actually had girl begging me if she can introduce me to her co-workers and another one doing the same for her collage mates.

I booked a one way ticket to Thailand/ Philippines for early November. I will stop for some weeks in Thailand then I will go to the the PI for longer.

I am still unsure in which city I will stay longer.

You will definitely get last minute flakes but you should have plenty of threads that don't die. One thing that I think gets a lot of guys is that it can really help to reply much more quickly in the phils than in the US.

There are some rude entitled girls, but a lot of these girls are so unsophisticated that they don't understand how rude they are being. Don't take it personal that they call you a player. They are just feeling you out.

It can take work to get these girls out because it isn't that believable that you want anything more than sex since they know you are a lot more sophisticated and have more opportunities than they do. You need to make it believable. The best thing about the phils is that if you put in the work you will almost definitely get what you want. You don't need to have as many spinning plates as in the west.

Why is that tough? Just ask them if they're single and if they think you're good looking and then ask them out. This kind of conversation may seem crazy in the west but it will seem completely normal to them. Those girls are basic, the approach with them is different. but you will get bored of them quickly since they typically don't have any interests. in the west you might be worried if you ask out a girl in the wrong context who clearly doesn't like you (you shouldn't be worried about it but there certainly are some times when it is in appropriate), you don't need to be worried in the phils.

it is definitely true that a lot of negativity is directed towards young girls dating old unattractive messy dudes. nearly everyone, even the girl's friends, think of her as a long term prostitute.

Went to Star City the other day with one of my rotation girls and was pleasantly surprised by the experience. This is an amusement park that's close to the coast and it's only open 4-10:30'ish on weekdays and 2pm onward on weekends. It's about 25-30 minutes away from greenbelt in mild traffic. The girl I was with had a metro deal which gave 50% off for unlimited rides.

I was expecting a complete cheese fest (which it was) but there were also a shitload of late teen early 20 something girls too. Some of them were traveling in huge groups but there were also many many small sets of 2-3 girls wandering around. There's a lot of jailbait so you would have to be careful with target selection but I was very surprised at the sheer quantity of girls here.

I saw a few koreans but otherwise there's almost no foreigners here. It might be a good place to roll with a wingman and just game sets of girls waiting for rides etc..

Cebu seems like its close enough to Bohol I can go scuba diving when I want, but rent an apartment and bang away as well.

Any thoughts about that festival or problems with Cebu during those times, or scuba diving locales with lots of women, advice gladly taken.

I don't have any direct experience with it though

I was in Cebu during Sinulog a few years ago and during that time, the entire city shuts down. Hotels get booked months in advance and people from all over the country come to Cebu for this festival, which is a major religious event. Kinda like Carnaval in Brasil minus the mega parties and all. Sure there will be people parading dressed in fancy costumes and there will be tons of girls coming from all over the country. But getting a place to stay may not be easy. I was asked to leave the hotel I was staying the previous 2 weeks for the weekend as the room had been booked in advance.

So the major challenge is not the girls, but rather finding a place to stay at during that weekend. If you can find a decent hotel to stay at, by all means, check it out as it can be fun. Since it's only a weekend, I'd say come to Cebu a few days prior and then on the Friday, head to Bohol for the weekend with a cutie. Then return to Cebu on Monday when the festival is over. This is what I did, went with my German buddy and 4 girls for a weekend of fun to a nice resort in Lapu Lapu and returned on the Monday.

I think Manila is in the plans within the next couple months.

Based on what I've read on the forum, I'm leaning Quezon City but also strongly considering Fort Bonifacio.

I like that QC has a younger, more middle class crowd, supposedly a little cleaner than the rest of the metro, less foreigners, cheaper, etc.

My main concerns are that people say there isn't anything to do there during the day.

I'm mid-20s and don't spend much time on nightlife, so I'm sure it'll be fine in that regard. But is there any nature around? Like beaches, parks, etc.

Also, I'm wondering how it compares to BGC in things like pollution, traffic, and diversity/quality of food options (restos and supermarkets).

I know BGC is more expensive, but I've seen some decent places on olx.ph in the $500 per month range. I'm guessing that's just a poor location within the area? Or maybe slightly outside and being advertised as the Fort? Side note: It's almost impossible for me to get real functionality out of the Google Maps here.

As a whole, Manila is lacking in "touristy" daytime activities.

If anything, I'd say Quezon is dirtier than Makati and more dangerous (in the wrong parts).

There are A LOT fewer foreigners in Quezon for that reason.

All of the supermarkets in the country are pretty decent for raw ingredients. My rule of thumb is, the better the lighting - the better the quality. The markets with the brightest lights seem to have the best items.

As far as foreign food goes - the more foreigners, the more foreign food. With Quezon having less foreigners, you'll have a harder time finding quality foreign food as opposed to other places in Makati.

If you've never tasted Pinoy food, try to find some abroad.

If you can't - there's your sign.

Also, I observed a lot more pros in the Quezon night scene - on par with Malate.

There's no comparison between BGC and any other place in the country. It's almost like it doesn't belong here.

Dagnasty is right and covered most of your questions. I’ll address the nature bit.

There are basically no Western style parks in Manila (someone correct me if I’m wrong). There are some smallish ones, but nothing like a Central Park with fields, paths, concert areas, etc. Even those green spaces you see in QC on Google Maps are not really parks in the Western sense.

There are no beaches close to Manila that you can swim and hang out at. Zambales, Batangus or Subic are the closest at about 2-3 hours a piece.

IMO the lack of outdoor activities is the worst thing about living in Manila. It’s a pain in the ass to get outdoors here. I advise getting a quiet place with a pool to escape the chaos, especially if you’re going to be here long term. And if you can afford it, fly to beaches when possible.

IMO forget girl logistics, girl hotspots, etc. Banging girls here is the easy part. Finding peace and quiet is the hard part.

I like to take walks. The Fort and Makati are the best walking places in Manila I’ve seen. If you like to walk, keep that in mind. You don’t want to be huffing jeepney fumes and looking over your shoulder while trying to collect your thoughts.

But I’m also 10 years older than you. Your priorities may be quite different.

My Google Maps works quite well here. I’m on Globe. I use it frequently because Uber and Cab drivers often don’t know where spots are.

I'd also concur that the Fort is far cleaner and westernized that QC. QC is hard to lump into a single category. It's frankly its own city, and has nice areas and rougher areas. It does have a Phils middle class, colleges and a shit load of malls. As I previously wrote about there are also beaches, I believe in nearby Caloocan, or at least public swimming pools (bring your Z-packs??).

If I was in my twenties and was going for numbers, and was on a similar budget to yours, I'd probably pick QC. Pull from Antipolo, Valenzuela, Caloocan and the other section of North Manila and even beyond towards AC's province (too lazy to look it up). Just realize that if you stay in QC, hitting the clubs in the Fort is a project. Since you don't do much nightlife, and QC is full of malls, you'll more than have your hands full from online and from daytime. Trick will be finding that spot in QC that (1) is findable by girls for meet-ups, (2) has the kind of accommodation you find acceptable and doesn't have trash all over, or horrible Jeepney smog, and (3) is accessible to transpiration for when you feel like you need to get the hell out of dodge.

One thing I thought was good, when I stayed in QC, I was across from a hospital, and the nurses were middle class, attractive and friendly. Finding a spot near to a nursing college could be a way to go, or even near a hospital (I never heard sirens even being across the street from one, perhaps Ambulance service in the Phils is rare).

Where I was around, outside fast food and mall restaurants serving Japanese and Chinese, there was not a lot of foreign food in QC. BGC is exactly the opposite. Plenty of spots, both on high street and elsewhere.

Is there anything you can get much cheaper in the UK that's worth bringing over to sell ie. iPhones?

I don't mind Pinoy food. It's very similar to cuisine from the Southern US in many regards, and I eat stuff like adobo, lechon manok, bbq, buko shakes, etc. all the time.

But I get tired of eating the same shit and the lack of vegetables. Also, it really drives me crazy that Filipinos won't make foreign food at least somewhat authentically. Everything has to have the same flavor as everything else they eat.

Most of the non-Pinoy food here in Davao tastes like absolute garbage. There are some decent foreign owned places, but it's too far and few between.

Yeah, that's one of the main reasons I've avoided Manila for so long. Davao is great in that regard. Beaches 30 minutes away, nature parks, wildlife reserves, etc. Plenty of other beautiful spots a few hours away. It's something I don't take advantage of nearly enough, but definitely very nice to have that option there.

There's plenty of nature to be experienced in Davao, but I'm getting a bit tired of the girls. Don't get me wrong, it's not like it's hard to get laid or there aren't plenty of sweet, attractive girls for relationships.

But I've found it impossible to have any sort of "rotation". I'm lucky to get two bangs in before the girl is pushing for something more. It seems like the members in Manila don't have that problem as much.

Also, just based on online, the average girl in Manila is infinitely more enjoyable to talk to. They speak way better English and are much more receptive. Talking to most girls in Davao is just an infinite loop of the same questions and topics.

I'm not one of those guys who wants to talk philosophy and politics with girls. My most recent ex barely said shit during our entire relationship and it was fine. But when you're having to constantly search for prospects, saying the same things over and over becomes maddening.

I also don't really want to move somewhere long term just for the girls, but I feel it will be worth it to give Manila a shot for a month and see how it goes. There are a few other advantages, like cheaper flights and things like that, which I'm looking forward to also.

Thanks. Not sure why I have a problem with Google Maps. It takes forever to load, to the point that it takes a few minutes just to pinpoint something a few streets over. Pretty sure it's not my specific computer, but maybe I'll try it on my mobile or tablet.

It's not really about numbers. I actually want to spend less time gaming, while also getting laid daily. Again, not like Davao is hard, but I'm sure anywhere in Manila will be a cakewalk in comparison. I've definitely noticed that Quezon seems to have a ton of cute girls online though.

Also, the budget thing is more about value. My lifestyle is pretty simple, so I'm thinking the big cost difference is going to be rent. Avoiding that extra little bit of jeepney smog may be worth it alone, and just being comfortable enough in my surroundings that I get in a couple extra hours of work in a week will cover that anyways.

At the same time, maybe I'd be fine in QC and can spend that extra $500 on a flight to Palawan or Boracay, a side trip to BKK, etc.

This is kind of a tangent, but I've had a few girls tell me that nurses here make very little. Like $10 for 12 hour shifts. I don't remember the exact numbers, but it wasn't much more than girls have told me they make working in the mall or restaurants. One chick had her degree in nursing but said she made better just working some office job.

But one girl I talked with for a while was a nurse and she did seem fairly middle class. At the same time, she lived with her family slightly outside of town, so maybe that had something to do with it. Also, maybe there is a big variation in how much nurses make? That's the case in the US, so I'm guessing it's possible here too.

That may sell me on BGC. Growing up in a pretty well-respected food city and working under a James Beard award winner, among others, I kind of took for granted how nice it is to walk around a city and have all these varying, delicious food options at your fingertips.

I agree pinoy food gets a bad rap because so much of what you buy in outside restaurants or food stalls is made like shit with too much oil and grease. It's all about having girls who know how to cook make it for you. Pinoy food is like soul food combined with SEA flavor. My personal favorite is Tinola, it's really healthy (especially marungay as an ingredient) if you get a home cooked version of it.

Even though I like lechon I can't imagine eating it more than once every couple weeks. I swear I had heart palpitations from all the saturated fat last time I had it.

Yeah, homemade is good, and there are some nicer Pinoy restaurants also.

Are you sure we're talking about the same lechon? Manok is the whole roasted chicken over charcoal. You could easily just take the skin off if you're worried about the fat content.
