I'm learning boxing, and draw female nudes. The first is "macho" (for want of a better word), and the second shows I have a creative and sexual side. It should come in handy one day too when trying to bed a new woman. It worked in Titanic!

Anyway, I agree that you should mainly choose activities for self-improvement and for what you have a passion for, not with attracting girls in mind. However, I can think of another reason why it helps to be aware of how women perceive your pastime.

Besides triathlon, I also used to train in karate and BJJ. I found that when talking to girls, their eyes would light up when I talked about doing triathlons, but would glaze over when I talked about karate. So, I would usually bring up the triathlon thing first in a conversation, and talk about the MA stuff later if it came up.

The thing is you can make any hobby cool and interesting if you are an interesting person. Astrophysics can either be boring or completely awesome based on the personality. Most of the guys who do martial arts are BORING AS FVCK, they are worse than gamers in some respects because they hide their insecurities in fight training. They tend to think 'fighting/training' is what you 'should' do as a guy and theres nothing worse than hanging out with that dude. You can instantly tell when a guy is comfortable with himself and when he's trying to be something he's not.

For instance last week I met the most boring PUA I have ever met. He said he used to play 'video games' when he was a loser (apparently this was 2 years ago) but now he's all about picking up women... I had to keep myself entertained the whole night because he had absolutely nothing to say outside of 'red pill' 'neghits' 'sets'. He refuses to talk gaming for fear 'someone' might think he is less of a man.

My wife is into Japanese Cartoons and she is always trying to get me into it. She buys me gundam wing stuff that she plays with and puts together if I don't like it. You want a hobby that attracts women? Get into Japanese cartoons... You really want to attract girls? Do what you love, be as into it as you want and chicks will pick up on your energy.

I stopped for a sec at this, because I've observed that the "runner look" is not attractive to most girls, esp girls who can get weightroom guys. However swimmers tend to get lots of ass and have a quasi-perverted sexualized culture inside their sport to begin with.

I certainly haven't heard "everyone I know" making fun of cyclists. Cyclists have tone muscles and lots of stamina. I bet that in runner/cardio communities cyclists have mad value. Triathletes are going to give value to anybody who is excellent in any of the three disciplines. If they are trying to game at rugby parties it's going to be a different story.

I'm sure Lance Armstrong did NOT have problems in the getting girls department - even though he had his fair share of other problems.. and possibly even more than his fair share of other problems.

One reason some guys get into MA, IMO, is because they've been a loser at almost everything else in their lives, so MA gives them a chance to succeed at something. Those kind of guys will sound boring when they talk about it, because they don't have the rounded, deep personality that someone has with more comprehensive life experiences.

Yes, I live in Japan and have lived here for a long time. Perceptions may be different in the US or in other countries.

I've done boxing since I was a kid, but rarely mention it with women, because with the types of women I like it seems to be more of a DLV, or at best neutral, due to the negative stereotypes of boxers in this country. However, if women that are already in my life see me train, or if the same types of women happen to be in the gym and see me train, then they seem to love it. In short, I think it's something that women need to see you do, rather than talk about, in order to spark attraction.

I think it's similar with language learning (although this is certainly not a DLV); far better for a woman to observe you speak a second language, than to talk about it.

Acting and doing Improv comedy is a massive DHV if you're good at it. have actually had girls who blew me off come up to re-open me after seeing me do Improv.

I think that you are right on the spot regarding a lot of things in life, including certain laborious hobbies. They may NOT want to witness the sausage-making process but they are o.k. eating the sausage.

Agreed that you should do whatever you want, but it's good to know DHV's vs DLV's to know what to talk about with women. The classic, "How was your weekend?" is a DHV paradise.

DHV:
Travelling
Going to any new/popular restaurant, club, or event in the area
Going to baseball games (still don't understand why women like going to, but not watching, baseball games)
Playing any sport
Business meetings or working on your business (but not networking, I suspect, since everybody does that)
Doing anything fun that makes her feel FOMO

I break activities into two groups: activities where you expect to meet women, and ones where you don't.

Obviously you don't really expect to meet new girls in weightlifting, community sports (unless it's coed), reading, cycling, cooking, practicing the guitar...

You _can_ expect to meet women if you are hiking, performing music, volunteering or going to wine tastings.

So there's the distinction that some activities are a DHV _but not while you are actually doing them_, while other ones give you the chance to display directly to women and to meet new prospects.

You'll want to have a mix of both. I'm fairly introverted and my hobbies are my escape to recharge, so I don't meet many girls while actually doing the things I like doing with my downtime. While I don't choose activities just because women dig them, it's a constant improvement item for me to tune my activities to put me in front of women.

I read a post (I think it was Solomon II) that really opened my eyes to this - the old "what did you do/what are you doing with your weekend?" question is a huge opportunity to DHV, or to paint yourself as a boring beta. You gotta be ready for the question.

I like to ask a girl first, then when she turns it back to me I make sure to one-up them. The details aren't important, it's the perception that you're an active guy with lots of social opportunity.

"makes her feel FOMO" is brilliant.

Also asking is a nice low-maintenance comfort question that gives her a chance to talk about herself.
