That's it. Is that a lot? Seriously all you need is about $4K a month to do fine.

If you go out two nights a week, that's over $7,000 a year. For two drinks and transportation.

$4k per month is equal to or more than many people's salary. Not hating, if you got it spend it.

But when you're comparing it to foreign countries, you're stacking it against the popular locations on the forum like the DR, SEA, and places in Central and Eastern Europe where $4k a month gets you top tier accommodation, maid service, whole bottles when you go out, eating out every single meal, etc.

Of course those places are cheaper, but are they better?

Flip it around, would you go to Cebu if it was as expensive as NYC?

Would you go to Spain if it had bad weather?

I'm not trying to hate on NYC. It's a great place.

But he called it the better version of a foreign country and asked if $20 vodkas were a lot. I answered.

I haven't traveled nearly as extensively as you players but where is a ten minute cab ride more than $20?

Never went to the Blue Martini. I did see two 9's in Publix, one was EE, the other bagging groceries. The Paners Bread next door had nothing less than a 7's. Dumb and bored. Your only competition down there is creepy Greek midgets. Tampa wins in in every categoy except for maybe diversity of food.

Yes.

The North Coast of Spain has bad weather and it is amazing.

Probably California.

(11-14-2013 10:29 AM)WestCoast Wrote:  @ g strong point.

What are you paying for exactly. Are you getting cheap accommodations at the expense of living in boredom 6 days a week?

Are you paying for ridiculously easy logistics with spots poppin off 360 days out of the year.

I feel like the "divide" on NYC is basically boring type A dudes and normal type B dudes.

Yeah if you're boring you're going to hate it. But then again you're boring so no one wants to kick it with you anyway.

A lot of people on the forum (and in the world) conflate cheap with good.

Sure Bogota might be cheaper than Miami, but does Bogota have nightlife 7 nights a week?

Does it have EE girls galore? In addition to Latinas from all over the world?

Ability to walk to 20 solid restaurants in a 5 block radius?

The ocean with 80 degree water?

Many times you get what you pay for.

RE: I want to try out New York More but....
You don't even need to go to the high end spots. $8 drinks are common if you want to go to college type spots.

Guys who think NYC is expensive are the black out drunk types. They run up a $200 bar tab then cry themselves to sleep. No need to black out.

If Tampa is seriously that easy I will go down there next month.

----

The cheap with good type people are the ones who are trying to "save and play". The issue is that you end up saving less with this mindset.

Okay you go to Tampa for cheap cost of living. Then you look at your paycheck and you realize it's roughly half of the same job in NYC. So wtf is the point in that.

It is much easier to just drink less than it is to try and "save" on rent. You just need to control the control-ables.

How much would you pay for ideal logistics? I would pay a grip.

---
LOL @ anyone calling the city difficult when I literally watch old ass ugly dudes walk out with 20 year olds on a nightly basis. Shit, last night the waitress was explaining that most guys don't even show up until 2am for "last call game".

Yeah.

The thing I wonder is how these guys live in places with $2 drinks and aren't rich?

Hell, if I lived in a place with $3 drinks I would be a billionaire by now on booze savings alone.

^ their **strategy** is to look at the cost side of the equation and ignore the revenue side.

Needless to say this is how everyone thinks, so as we all know, everyone is always wrong.

Look at the threads started here: cost of living!, budget cities!

ZERO threads on highest INCOME cities by profession.

I don't care about the cost show me the money and I'll find a way to dial down the cost.

It is funny how people always do that.

I have never understood it. I always look at both, but the revenue side more.

Exactly.

Live in Soho or Miami Beach? No need for a car.

That saves you $1000 a month right there.

@g the car point you made is actually huge.

Think about it, what cities suck? Places where you have to drive

Pick up a DUI, pick up $400 a month in simple car maintenance (not even including the car)

If you need a car to game in the city, chances are the city blows.

---

Lol at California game not working in Florida. Off the plane in ft lauderdale pulled the same night.

Yeah girls hate in shape, well off, interesting, funny guys across the globe. L. O. L.

--

You have to try to not get laid in places like NYC and Florida.

Unless you're at the top end in Miami, it's ridiculously easy.

If someone thinks $20 vodka is expensive (which it is, based on facts and not emotions) then that means they only buy $2 drinks?

Most people look for the best return on investment. I'm sure West Coast can appreciate this without getting upset.

I sold my car 5 years ago and I save $4000/year in parking, plus insurance and car payments. And watching my first brand new car I ever bought turn to shit from death by 1000 cuts/dings. I use zipcar and hertz, and want to join the classic car club. No need for a car on the beach in Miami either.

@ enigma it's not like you need to go to the high end spots

If I was 21 again: live in lower east side. Get a roomate. Put $60 in your pocket roll to pianos and the general area around there.

When you want to go high end just roll to the high end.

Return on investment has a revenue category to it. A bartender in NYC is going to destroy a bartender in Tampa.

@ puckman so basically you get 40 nights out excluding gas alone. So simply not having a car and you can go out every Saturday for a full year in NYC.

Cheap.

yep, I really dont spend a lot of money on myself and for the last three years have lived way below what I make, when I took a smaller apartment uptown. I really don't see a big difference in cost between NYC, Boston, LA, SF, Seattle, LV, Atlanta, low-country(savannah/charlest/HH), and I travel to all these places for work. GM can attest but I actually think Miami is pricier than NYC. The only place thats way less is the midwest, for good reason, even Chicago is pricey, and when I am there I could give a shit about a $1 beer. You "need" a bankroll in any city.

Heard.

Much of the travel talk on the forum is about traveling through a remote work arrangement or traveling with savings though.

You don't see nearly as many threads discussing where to get a job and set up shop.

So if someone's income is location independent or they're trying to stretch their money the furthest, I don't think NYC is going to provide the best return on investment.

Not only is the floor lower in other countries, the ceiling is going to be achieved with less money.

Obviously, NYC has advantages that some of those cities don't provide. It's a great place. I'm from the Southeast but my mom's side of the family is from up that way and I love visiting Boston and NYC whenever I can.

I'm sure you're killing it up there but every place is different for each individual person.

In Tampa you can get an apartment on the water with boat slip for $800. Or buy a live aboard for $20k and park it in the marina surrounded by bars. Perfect logistics.

Living on boat= instant pussy.

You can't do that in NYC.

would have to disagree, for a few simple facts alone; 1. you are going to make more money here and 2. there is more opportunity here.

NYC is the land of opportunity. There are simply, more jobs, more chances, more career choices, more access to cheap/free education, just more opportunity in every way.

Its not my dream, and I will be out of here when I am 45, but for now, I can earn more money here in my business than I can pretty much anywhere in the world. I pretty much came here with nothing, and a shitty degree on top of that. Had no connections, alumni, or anything, just drive and desire. I see young guys come here all the time the same way and kill it.

Alright lets all go live on a boat in Tampa and make $50K a year.

LOL life accomplishment unlocked.

I don't want to compete in the junior varsity level. Life is not about selling yourself short. I'd rather swing with the tops and look in the mirror knowing I'm shooting for the stars.

--

Do not come to NYC if you are lazy. If you are lazy you will be eaten alive by people like me. Unlike average man I will do whatever it takes to make more money and get connected.

As puckman said every single fucking job pays more in NYC

Why be average. Fuck average man.

Whatever it takes to compete at the top.

Average man cries about hourly wages and cost of living. Average man wants time to relax. Okay. Everyone does this so it's obviously the wrong move.

When I am old and grey I will go to Tampa. Until then you'll see me grinding.

Shit I can retire in Thailand for the rest of my life if I want now. Why would I do that when I see nothing but options ahead?

Makes no sense.

Tampa has shit for tech jobs and they pay $10 less per hour than ATL. I can circumvent that by taking a travel position and work from home. Those are plentyful right now. NYC gets a tik mark from for the proper winter. I pull more ass when its cold and my winter wardrobe is always tight. I don't wear shorts.

NYC is a shithole though. Where I live it's nice. Average is just perceptive.

To me a guy in NYC making 200 is average. Making the same money here in nice weather is above average.

And yes you can quickly make the 2 handle. Why stop there though. It's not uncommon to get up to 5.

If you have a shred of game you don't need to spend it either.

What opportunities are there in Tampa? Seriously.

Again people choose to look at costs instead of opportunities. If you're older and done with your career yeah head on over to Tampa. Otherwise you sold yourself short by going to no name cities with no opportunities.

Shit if 2 Hundo is average I just netted out that all you need is $75K to be fine. So in what 6 years you have enough to not work for 10.

Lol at all the cost of living arguments. Run the numbers.

It's a loaded question. There's a reason the Philippines are cheap. There would have to be some reason for it to become more expensive through a change in infrastructure. The culture would completely change.

But just to give you a simple answer, probably not.

NYC is cool. Personally, though, I'm tired of the US in general. I'm not down with the whole out of control spying and overpowered police and feminism.

Yeah I don't care about the color of the buildings I only care about the quality of the chicks

This is also a big city versus suburbia debate, spacious places actually suck. Bad logistics and low quantity.

Spoon feed what? Opportunity means people. The people in Tampa are broke trolls. The people in NYC are rich. Let's see who pays more for products and services? Low end or high end.

Let's ruminate on that. LOL
