I'm working on that too. I'm weighing my options about it.

An agent is more for screenwriters who want to continually write on assignment or for TV. They can be great negotiators though because they know the market but then again the usual rate is 10% which takes a big chuck out of the sales price. An entertainment attorney will do the same for 1000 to 1500 bucks. That's a huge difference.

The attorney will make sure you don't get screwed over in the fine print. The contract is not that hard to read but some help is necessary.

Do you really want an agent to negotiate a 30 to 40k difference just to take that same money away as a fee?

I thought studios don't take scripts unless it's through an agent for legal reasons.
I.e. they turn down a script and then a year or two later that idea hits the screen and makes a bundle!

That's my thought too. It all sounds too good to be true. There are some big Hollywood industry sharks like Ari Emanuel, who'll swim circles around some newbie or worse, eat them alive. I think Neil needs an insider that can guide him around the industry playbook.

You just need a pen to sign the papers.

You don't need an agent to sell a script. It helps if you have one but it also costs you 10-15%. Would you give away a years salary for half a days work?
