I received the offer today. Among others. It's very lucrative IF the movie is made. Initial option payout is too low and needs to be negotiated.

I'm a bit overwhelmed at the moment. Took multiple walks down Hollywood blvd to clear my head. This is probably the biggest decision I have to take in my life.

El Mech is right, I do need legal advice which I can't afford now at 400 dollars an hour. I would meet up and go over the details with anyone here with any legal knowledge. I can pay what I can afford or afterwards. I never come back on my words.

Can you withdraw money from your credit card and use that for the legal advice? You definitely need to find a way to get legal advice. Maybe someone on one of the screenwriting forums can point you in the direction of a good lawyer, who isn't crazy expensive.

What are the chances the movie gets made? I've heard that many scripts get purchased in case the studio decides to make the movie, but that many never do. Maybe it is in your best interest to try to sell the script to a studio which would be less lucrative, but a higher probability that the movie actually gets made?

Keep pushing on man. This is pretty awesome what you are doing. I'm impressed.

Yeah get a lawyer. The price of Hollywood is your soul. There is a pecking order out there, and everyone gets paid. Lawyers, agents, publicists, ect. A shitty system but that is California.

I called with an entertainment attorney today and they need a 2500 dollar retainer/deposit. Not sure if others ask the same. I will have to try and find out over the weekend.

Relax and breath. You don't have to make a quick decision when you got others interested. You may want to wait for more offers. It would be best to play competing offers against each other.

Neil, I sincerely don't want to piss on your parade, but tread very carefully and keep a rein on your hopes and dreams. Tons of scripts get optioned, and then they go into 'development hell' for years. Most never see a rolling camera.

I think Delicioustacos worked in the industry - maybe PM him for advice. I think he's pretty jaundiced about the industry, though.

Yep I'm keeping it real but even getting this far after only 10 days is extraordinary. Some top notch writers struggle for years to get an offer. Like worldwidetraveler said: this is gonna piss some screenwriters off.

I can already frame this offer and hang it on the wall but not before I try my best in making it work.
