A lot of Hollywood industry people seem to live in Studio City also. Or at least a lot of hot chicks do.

But I hear what you are saying about telling people you live in Hollywood, but that actually is only this big (see link)

Exciting times - good luck!

RE: The Los Angeles thread
I think the bulk of the areas where you will have to break into to be successful is in Century City (talent agencies, law firms, etc) near the "twin towers)....Beverly Hills too near Rodeo Drive....also by Wilshire/La Cieniega (near the Larry Flynt building) are a bunch of offices with entertainment type stuff, I think E! network is out there. Writers Guild theatre is out there on Wilshire/Doheny...i've gone to a few screenings there and crap. if you can join or go to events I'd say go there as a starting off point to network. http://www.wga.org/ . here's an agency list from that site: http://www.wga.org/agency/agencylist.aspx

I've done book proposals in the past at work, but even with connections, it generally involved getting a lawyer ($400 an hour!), book agent, and other random people. Glad I wasn't paying. but yeah, most of our meetings were at law offices in century city.

You don't need a lawyer for a 12-18 month option. You can do it yourself if you don't wanna pay for one. Since Niel hasn't finished his work and hasn't had any of his work in tv/film etc...you can forget about WGA.

Yes its true about ventura blvd and studio city but keep in mind some of those hot girls are "temp workers" of vivid entertainmenttard, There are no good talent agencies on ventura blvd, the ones that are located there mostly manage stunt people and other "variety entertainment". Also, if you stay there without a car you will be isolating yourself unless you don't mind biking over the hill and all they way to BH to meet an agent.

Neil, check this hostel out too. It's literally right in the middle of hollywood. Walking distance to a lot of clubs (some of which are super ghetto though)

USA Hostel Hollywood
1624 Schrader Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA 90028
(323) 462-3777

I've got two friends that are in the industry. I have no clue what their connections are but at the very least they'd be down for a beer and could probably give you some solid advice.

RE: The Los Angeles thread
Neil, has anyone read your script and given you notes? I know you know this, but a good script is a critical starting piece. Yes, the pitch and the angle are important also, but when they ask to see the script it has to be in top notch shape. Including formatting and font size. I hear stories where if it isn't properly formatted it gets tossed. They assume if you can't do the basics you can't write a good script.

So it might be worth the investment to get some coverage and feedback. Lots of services out there.

RE: The Los Angeles thread
@Samsamsam

I've read an article on Studio city last year. Apparently it's a whole area of screenwriters, actors and studio personal. It would be great if the rent wasn't so high there. I've seen numbers of 2K $ a month for the smallest one room apartment. I will definitely look into to it again when time comes. It would be ideal of course to have feedback from tons of people.

So far , no one has proofread the script yet. Those services are either quite expensive if you want a good reader/consultant (400$ and up) or quite cheap but with the chance your script is being judged by a 18 year old freshman in film school. I haven't decided which route to go.

I have used the Final Draft program which is industry standard so the formatting is OK. I will however let some one do a spell/grammar check for the script. I think it costs about 60 $ so that's no problem.

@partyonbro

Thanks for the tips on the areas and agency link. Big help.

@8ball

Why should I forget about the WGA? I don't need a membership (very expensive) but will need them to register and copyright the script.

Four things can happen in Hollywood:

- I don't sell or option the script. Most likely.
- I option the script for enough cash to stay in LA or better. Actually I won't go low on options. Either make a decent offer or fuck off. I've heard screenwriters sell out for a 1000$. If I want to make small cash I can get a job to do that.
- I sell the script for $$$
- No one likes the script but some one is interested in buying the movie rights to the book. That can make a lot of $ too.

@thedude3737

I'll check out that hostel too. Ghetto clubs ? As in big round ghetto booty? What's not to like? I'm addicted to bubble butts.

I would like to meet up with your friends. I will need all the advice I can get.

I was thinking of printing mass amounts of business cards and just to spread them as much as possible all over LA. Just a simple card with my data and the scripts log line. In Holland we say: "You never know how a cow catches a rabbit"
Anything is possible and you never know who will see that biz card in the end. Perhaps a foolish idea but it's low budget and won't hurt my chances.

Another idea I have is to contact famous Dutch people in Hollywood. I haven't checked out their locations but it won't hurt to contact big names like Paul Verhoeven, Rutger hauer, Famke Jansen and Jan de bont. Perhaps they can give it The Dutch Touch. I'm sure there are lots of other Dutch people working in Hollywood somewhere. Can't hurt to try.

RE: The Los Angeles thread
If a lot of hot chicks live in the Studio City area, would it be a good option for a regular person (not Neil) to live in LA - other good options being Westwood/WeHo and Santa Monica?

If these girls are out & about, can one easily bump into them at grocery stores, at the laundromat or dry cleaners, at Starbucks, at the park walking the dog, etc.?

Neal - have you thought about selling your script or movie right to the porn industry? "Around The World In 80 Girls" sounds like a good porn movie title. No joke.

On a side note, there was a mass shooting in Santa Monica yesterday:

I don't hit on girls much, but when i do they melt.

Actually a lot of people outside the forum asked me this question too. I thought about it. There's probably no money in it but it would be a last resort option. Of course I have to bang all the actresses first. Eatpuss

I also wonder if there is money in it at all..can anyone who knows the industry comment? I mean, I've heard of big production porn movies. If your script involves being on location in all the countries you got laid, then it would need to have a sizable budget. As for banging actresses, you might be able to request/require that you do a 'cattle call' casting where you need at least 200-300 actresses to 'tryout' and you pick the top 80. Hump

I think sometimes, if you want to do something, then do it. Run into the wall, fail or win just go for it. That's what I think Neil is doing, he wants to do it. So, hmmmmm how do I say this, so there is no reason to give him things to be worried about or how hard it is. I think he already gets that it is a hard business, I think he just wants to take his shot. Plenty of writers option scripts for 1k or even write you one for 1k. It won't be a WGA writer for sure.

It's a long shot. I have no naive dreams about walking the red carpet or hanging out with stars anytime soon. I'm not too impressed with stars anyway. They're people just like you and me.
The only guys I would truly want to shake hands with are Stallone (my childhood hero) and/or Schwarzenegger. Their life stories are super motivating and a true example for anyone.

There are several reasons for me doing this.

- To make enough bank to have no financial worries anymore aka never having to work for an employer again or to be dependent on the wellfare check every month.

- To support my family financially. Not that they're poor but my sister for example drives a beater from 1995 so some money might help her out.

- To live and travel money independent for many years to come. Basically the thing I was doing on my round the world trip but with a (preferably) bigger budget. Not only to chase chicks but also for the traveling qnd life experiences that come with it.

- My own ego. Selling the script or not. How many people in Holland travel the world for this long, publish a book about it and go to Hollywood to sell a screenplay? I guess only me and that makes me fairly unique. Always a nice topic when talking to girls.

- last but not least, downright escapism from "real" blue pill life.

I know they're are plenty of writers optioning a script for a 1000 but for me this is not even thinkable. I'm not sacrificing 9 months of my social life and a lot of money to stay in LA to option a script for a 1000 bucks. If i would be 5 figures then yes. Even low 5 figures is better than nothing because you can use this money to stay longer in LA and also because an already optioned screenplay gets a 100 times more attention than an unknown spec script.
Any agent or producer will at least have a look at the logline/premise/treatment of an already optioned script. They can't afford to miss out on a potential money maker.

Anyway, like one of my Lithuanian friends said this week: You have a certain image in your mind about how it's gonna be in LA but the reality will be completely different.

One of my life theories is this:

Most things in life are pure luck or faith. Take girls for example. How many times have you met girls that if you arrived one minute later you wouldn't meet at all. Happened to me several times.

Take a bus at 15:00 and go on living your dull life. Be a bit too late and take the 15:05 bus and meet a friend for life or the girl of your dreams.

Life can be as simple as that.

Nice to see the dream alive and well...

Neil, not sure if you're allowed to work here but you could do what every other writer does in this city and take a job bussing tables for 20 hours a week to make enough scratch to get by. You actually have a better shot at banging 8+ girls by doing this and going for your fellow servers and hostesses than going out to clubs.

As far as Schwarzenegger goes, it's not as hard to meet him as you might think. He lives in Brentwood and he's always around there. I've met him a few times, twice at the restaurant I used to work at there, once at the Le Pain Quotidien in the Brentwood Country Mart, and once at my current job.

He's shorter than you imagine.

Schwarzenegger goes to mass at st Monicas church. Sometimes the morning 10am and sometimes the 530. He sits on the left side of the church in the middle when I've seen him there.

Awesome. I'll check out those places if I can spot him. I always thought Arnold was of the same heights as me. About 6.2. He probably shrunk an inch at his age though.

RE: The Los Angeles thread
I'm in LA now. The women are very, very, good. Hot girls are EVERYWHERE! All types of girls.

Guys complain a lot about logistics. I can see that being a problem with everything being so spread out. But, with this amount of girls and the density of population, there is no excuse not to do well here. Day game is a goldmine.

If I lived here, the most important thing would be LOCATION. I would make damn sure that I lived and worked in an area where lots of girls also lived and worked.

Like I said before, I would likely live a few blocks from UCLA.

If logistics are a problem, fix your logistics.

LA is a great place for girls. No excuses. Fix your game, fix your logisitcs.

There are millions of pretty girls here, literally, millions!

I would not be driving all over the place chasing them. I would identify a neighborhood that was a a good fit for me and I would develop a system to maximize that neighborhood. Maybe, I would move every other year or so. There are so many different fishbowls in LA! A player should do well here.

I feel like in LA, logistics are 70% of the game. Focus on that first. Finding cute, freindly girls is the easy part.

Dude, I was walking around the Venice boardwalk yesterday and just could not fucking believe the talent I saw. It was BETTER than Miami Beach. And usually it's not, but yesterday it was. I was thinking that L.A. is definately a top 5 world destination for quality.

what are the best spots on the venice boardwalk? I was there a week ago and peeped the drum circle...end of the day there was nice talent around......james beach was dead....previous reports said to check out the Whaler, which I might do...maybe the roof at the Hotel Erwin?

I think there's a few beer gardens closer to the Santa Monica side of things where people just hang out and drink.

The Venice Beach boardwalk can be top notch at times. The key is drunk/high/caveman game. I see guys hollerin' at girls all the time, and they love it. Just a few weeks ago I was biking through there and a guy popped up behind two fine grade A honeys pointing his big SLR camera right down their ass cheeks, like a foot away from them, and they were loving it.

Also, most of those KassemG videos are shot around Venice.

Venice Alehouse is the place to be. Sit outside and day drink and holler at people who walk by.

Erwin has great views. DJ can be pretty good sometimes. It's best to have a reservation if you want to sit down. (The line forms and security is a dick about not letting people in.) If you're not going to order food, tell the security guy that you're just getting drinks and you can usually get past the line. It's always busy at Erwin but talent is off-and-on.

Funny.

I guess when you live here, you take it for granted and then start nit-picking flaws; where as guys who don't live here thinks it's incredible.

Kinda how New Yorkers earning $200,000 a year say they can "barely get by."

I've met him a few times, twice at the restaurant I used to work at there, once at the Le Pain Quotidien in the Brentwood Country Mart, and once at my current job.

He's shorter than you imagine.

Yep. I used to see him at Schatzi's on Main (back before it was sold and converted to 31 Ten) and Hollywood Smoke.

I've stood right next to him. He is shorter than I was, even with his elevator shoes.

He's 5'10" tops.

Franco Columbu, to his right, is 5'5
Sly Stalone is listed at 5'10, but I don't believe it. I've walked by the guy and he's probably 5'7-8(max)

So you're probably right on the money considering this picture.

Although, I've also walked by Bruce Willis, and he seems to be 6'.

If you consider that, and look at this picture (and ignore Sly's platformed shoe height), looks like Arnold is closer to 6' as well.
