Tip- Great date spot in the valley- Cafe Bizou in Sherman Oaks. Nice quant french place w/upscale older clientele. Had the Ahi tuna peppered and grilled rare, with shitake mushrooms ravioli (best ravioli I have ever had by far) and sauteed spinach. Delicious. 2 dollar corkage fees and they bring out a nice ice-bucket. Yelp

If your date still needs more imbibents, walk over to the Local Peasant. No store-front undercover speakeasy-feel bar. Yelp

Thank me later.

The key to the Newport, Laguna, CDM trifecta is (dare I say it), Day Game.

You have to come heavy though, and focus on all the younger girls.

Basically, come with an attitude of "F*ck Orange County", I am coming from a higher level" and it should work pretty decent. Being "non-Orange County" about it is the key.

This is ideal if you are younger and don't have to work during the day.

If you are older, I think you need to go with a CASH heavy, from the streets, International Playboy vibe to crush the competition.

Still, it is going to be a lot of work with less payoff than you would get in other places.

And don't forget to pay the extra 10% in taxes for the pleasure.

And please, put out your cigarette before you get within 100 feet of that building.

And drink up. The bar is closing in 5 minutes. Yeah, I know it is 1 am. But ABC is watching our bar close lately. By the way, can I check your ID again?

Such is life in Southern California.

Yeah daygame may be the way to go here, or try Huntington where they are sluttier and not as much in packs. Same shit last night, should have just stayed in. Chatted with a few mediocre girls, nothing special.

Here's the scene on the ground...terrific ratio huh?

Only if you are looking to date dudes.

Good update...but I sense you are already planning an exit strategy, so at least these comical nightlife experiences will provide great stories later on.

Ha.

Looks like a gay bar.

That is funny the "gay cowboy look" ie plaid shirts is so dominant in OC.

The issue with Huntington is that although being neighbors, is not exactly "close".

And if you drink, you are running the gauntlet and you will find yourself in a jail cell sooner than later.

For all the LA sucks talk, Orange County sucks 10 times more.

Have you day gamed in Fashion Island? (I know, I am suggesting a f*cking mall, but I am trying to help).

Could be the move for you.
slubu 路 2013-05-17 12:26:00 路 #506
Yeah I have my exit strategy. I'm in Newport this month because I have free housing 2 blocks from the beach and 2 blocks from about 10 different bars.

I don't day game, but I should. I've also been telling myself that for years.

G, that place in CDM was Landmark. A steakhouse that turns into a club/bar on weekends. Best place in OC ever, my friends and I cleaned up that place for years before it went down.

There are a few good things about OC. One it's cheaper, and two if a place is good it will stay that way for years. Whereas in LA, you've got 1-3 months before the sluts pack up and go to another place. I don't even know how that works, I'm at the point where I think there is some slut newsletter that they subscribe to. In summer 2012 it was the Phoenix, now it sucks. Fall/winter 2012 for example, in LA it was Hemmingway's. Go there now and there will be 12 people in there. So odd.

Yep.

That was the place. The "fight" between the white girl and Persian girl I referred to was in the alley right to the side of the place at closing time.

---

Ever been to Mastro's Ocean Club in Newport Coast?

I went there when it first opened at it was pretty solid with girls (still sucked because of closing times etc), but that was years ago.

Might still be decent.

When I first got to Southern California, I thought that most of the bars were gay bars, because I was used to Jersey Shore ratios and when I would go by a bar and see 90% guys walking into it, I would make the assumption that it was a gay bar. I remember one time these girls asked me if I ever went to Belmont Station. I told them, "That's a gay bar. Why would I go there"? For some reason, they didn't seem too happy with my response.

Shitty. Was there recently for the first time. Lots of lame/ugly Hispanics and Asians. Grimy crowd. Cute girls were mostly with boyfriends or big mixed groups, and few in number either way. In the smoking section, the ratio was 3:1. The paucity of available talent is probably bad enough that the single girls feel like prey.

I've heard it's more of a late night spot, I only stayed til midnight, after getting in free through a friend.

It has a lounge next door, Bardot, which might be good, never been.

Haha @ slubu. I wonder if it's just that sluts get excited to go out to a new place. Once it's old hat, they stop going and stick to their old neighborhood haunts, house parties or a different new joint.

I haven't heard of ANY bars opening in the past couple months.

Hey guys, what are some decent dives in the valley? This girl recently told me about Dirty Bull Tavern in Woodland Hills and said she liked it. I actually remember going there many years ago but have no idea what it's like now. I know there's Mad Bull's Tavern in Sherman Oaks right near me and I really don't care for the crowd. Federal Bar in Noho seems cool. Laural Tavern is whatevers. Don't know what the place that used to be Clear is like. There was a cool spot on Van Nuys Blvd in Sherman Oaks called Coda some years back. I think it's still around, haven't been in a long time. Any other ideas? I think I'm going to stop going to bars on the Westside and downtown. Logistics are just killing me out here. I'm going to start giving Valley dives another look. Not much point in me going downtown and getting a fucking number from a girl who lives in Costa Mesa.

I used to live off Ventura and am familiar with Mad Bulls. Here's the deal with Valley bars:

Great to meet for first 'date', but terrible for picking up. In 2.5 years of living there I pulled from Mad Bulls twice. I prefer Spittin Chicken beside it.

Other than that you have a few different spots, the names escape me, but overall its a crapshoot with too many guys and a cliquish feel.

The Federal in NoHo used to be a goldmine and I pulled consistently from there for months and then the crowd turned and got whack, so I stopped going.

There's a bar off Ventura and Reseda, can't remember the name. Used to be great on Thursday nights and I pulled like crazy. Fly little latina types. Then the cholos came in and it's absolute shit.

Ugh, doesn't sound too promising. I think that bar off Reseda and Ventura is the Little Rock:

@Speak- I rolled solo into Madbulls/Spitting Chicken at 1am on Saturday last week. Def. some cuties in there. I wouldnt waste a whole night on it, but for a quick drink, smoke and roll-by its not too bad. I have yet to pull anything out of there, but I think it has some promise. Met a beautiful 21 yr black girl, some hot white girls, and a few older MILFs (usually I am not into MILFs at all, but a few of them really keep in good shape).

Also helps to roll in solo or in a group of no more than 2 people. When you have a pack of 4 dudes, the girls get intimidated. I suppose its something primal. 1-2 dudes gives you the most leeway- because girls are in groups of 2-3 (usually one ugly/unavailable one in the group of 3).

Little rock (or maybe its river rock) sucks now.

I'm at the Friday's at the 405 @ Getty Center right now. Came up here to check out a band I really like and waiting for them to come on.

In my opinion this type of thing is more suited for couples and sets of friends. I see pretty much nothing but couples and social circles. Sort of the same vibe you'd get at a concert. But it's a cool vibe nonetheless. Talent wise it's so-so. Average girl is a 5-6. Couple hotties here and there but nothing to write home about.

Tip - hop on the metro rapid 761 bus to avoid the congestion and pricey parking. The bus is clean and very convenient.

I have hit the Getty and there are some QUALITY chicks there from what I have seen. I was with my ex at the time but the issue I saw was that it seemed to be a mix of couples and large mixed sets which wouldn't be the easiest to crack with the way its laid out and what people are there for. It was a few years back, and I would love to hit it again but the way to do it would really be with some cool chicks you got in the friend zone and some boys, or with some of my friends who are coupled up and peel off to talk to a couple randoms at the bar, etc.

Last night after getting hammered at Mastros, we went to Nic's and it was pretty cool with a vodka bar in the back (didn't go in there - looked cold!). We then had the driver take us to The Phoenix on La Cienega.

It seemed like a very young crowd and it was packed. I checked out yelp and it seemed to have good reviews and people rave about the happy hour.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-phoenix-beverly-hills

We were pretty bummed that they stopped serving food at around 10:30.

Anyway, I just thought I'd offer it up as an idea if you are into the hipsterish crowd.
