We seem to have been dealing with collective national guilt for it ever since, and are now petrified to be patriotic or feel good about ourselves for anything. That said, there's a sea change coming in, people's political leanings are finally heading further right...

Hyperion I totally agree with you but also think the USA is also on a downward path. I actually blame the political systems in both countries for starting the problems.

Oh no doubt, I share the same sentiment about the USA. If you took a coma 20 years ago, and woke up today you'd have a difficult time believing you were in the same country. Unless something changes soon(unlikely) then I expect everything to degenerate further.

One of the reasons this site is so great, to get a global perspective from people who actually travel and aren't afraid to say the truth as they see it. There's only so much of the whole 'Oh noes, you should be thrilled with your BBWs, non-feminine women and androgyneous society' that a sane person can tolerate.

It's always been there, but people have been scared into silence. UKIP have made it acceptable again, and that's why I'm a member. I love Europe, truly love it, but hate the EU. I absolutely adore being so close to Italy, Spain, Germany etc...and then also Poland, Ukraine etc...but I don't want to be governed by a 'one-size-fits-all' authoritarian supra-national organization, headed by career-politicians and not-so-closet Maoists.

I like northern British birds but not for their looks so much, more because you can have a laugh with them on a night out, get piss faced with them and then bang them in a bus stop after a few hours of meeting them. I've had some epic nights out in the meat markets of places like Stoke, Oldham, Rochdale etc. but it's not for the faint hearted. For a foreigner not used to such places it would probably be a bit too much of a cultural deep end to jump into on a short trip unless you had a British wingman.

If you are looking for quality avoid the majority of the north but if you want drunken one night stands in rough arse towns and a chicken fu-yung from the Chinese chippy on the way home then the north is great. If you want quality women and FSU chicks then stay south and hit London.

North is where it's at. Especially the more affluent places - the poorer places are full of skanky (but easy) birds who will do exactly as you described! The posher places have a cleaner, higher quality of lass but it takes a bit more to seal the deal.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you say not for the faint hearted are you making reference to the disparity in the culture between a night out in America and one here in the UK? My impression of it has always been that you're more likely to get the shite kicked out of you on a night out here, but not as much in America?

It's pretty much the uk in general, and the Republic of Ireland.

I keep bumping Into birds I went to school with when they are out for work do's and party's. They look around 10-15 years older than what they are (27/28)

I always make a point of approaching them with a big smile, and being the cocky asshole they remember. Their faces twist in a strange sort of beastial jealous/embarrassed display of contempt and inadequacy. 2 minutes of the usually bullshit small talk and move on.

Fast forward two hours and they are pissed and stumbling over to me.

Ogre "I used to fancy you in school"
Ego "you still do"
Ogre " ha ha, you haven't changed a bit"
Ego " That's not true, I get better looking everyday"
Ogre "giggle"
Ego " Anyway, gotta roll *knuckle bumps, big smile, dander off*

Then they add me on Facebook at 4 in the morning.

One thing that was hard not to notice after visiting the Balkans was just how much "bigger" Northwest european girls were - not just fat British chicks. I was in Amsterdam airport, and even the Dutch girls who were not overweight had much more "bulk" than the girls I saw in Sarajevo and Istanbul. A Dutch girl who is not overweight compared to a Balkan girl who is not overweight is just larger. I would have expected this if I had changed planes in Heathrow, but it was a bit surprising to see in the Netherlands.

As well, the Balkan girls simply had better faces on average, even though dental care is clearly better in the Netherlands.

I am a bit older but years ago Nottingham was considered one of the hotspots to party in the England, the ratio of women to men was allegedly 6:1. I also hear Derby is pretty good, I would love to check out Cardiff. I like those Welsh chicks with black hair and coloured eyes, then again I like any girl with that look.
UK is not great for women but at least they want to party and get fucked, come to Canada (Toronto) and then you will realize there are worst places.
Those of you who have never partied in the UK, it is common at the end of the night to see girls puking or peeing on the streets totally shit faced.

Not necessarily between US and UK but pretty much a foreigner from anywhere except probably Australia.

As you know the nights out up north can be fucking rough, people getting smashed about, knuckle draggers everywhere, over zealous bouncers on roids looking to steam you, spill someone's pint or make eye contact and you can get into a brawl. And that's just in a club. Then you have to navigate the taxi queue or the kebab shop with the pissed up dickwads who did not pull and are looking to round the evening off with bit of afters.

You, I, Sportbilly and the other Brits on here have grown up knowing the way around these things, we have had to learn avoidance techniques and have heightened awareness when we're out or we'd be rolling around on beer stained carpets every Friday night with the local dickheads. But say a young Belarusian lad gets off the plane in Manchester and heads to Toxteth or Burnley for a night out? He'd have no fucking clue and sense little of the pitfalls. In the same way as if I hit up a rough club in Detroit or Tirana without knowing the way things work I'd be putting myself in the way of a possible brawl.

Apart from the brawling that we take for granted on a northern shit-hole night out there is the shock of seeing the sights: people fucking in bus stops, women unconscious in the street, people spewing up in doorways, women showing their tits and minges to passing motorists. If you grew up thinking UK life is like a scene from a Dicken's novel you'd have a fucking heart attack.

Despite all that, it's a bloody good crack.

I love the sluts in this country, but I'm winding down, preparing myself to leave the UK for a while, I know where I want to stay. Edinburgh had some good looking girls which surprised me as Scotland has always seemed shit. I'm guessing though it's because Edinburgh is like London there's going to be a bit more competitiveness amongst girls to stay slim, an incentive of some sorts.

Thats news to me. Are you prepared to wade through pretentious, obnoxious, binge drinking, feminist with princess entitlement women who look like Oompa Loompas? Truth is, I gave up on Irish women a long time ago.

That said there are some real hidden gems here. Lots of Brazilian students have moved here in particular women and there's a right spot just 5 minutes from my gaff where its full of them taking advantage of the €2 drinks.

I have been taking advantage of it too. Another trip beckons tonight.

I have been out in Manchester and Liverpool and had a an absolute blast. I have heard that some of the other northern towns can be as rough as a bear's arse and your account confirms it. They are not the brightest in those parts.

However the biggest craphole I was ever in was Luton. God awful place riven by despair, urban decay, racial tensions and far Right football hooligans whom I had a run in with. I have to admit, the Celtic top didnt help. That said its gas seeing these EDL heads shouting Paki this and Paki that, yet after a night drinking foreign ale, head up to the local Asian takeaway for a Vindaloo.
