Here's a scenario for a guy with a goal.

- Get a manual labor job working for $20 per hour. Hell, I've mowed lawns, run weed-eaters, and dug ditches for $20-$30 an hour. None of those require more skill than you could teach a 13-year old in fifteen minutes.

- If you work 10-hours a day, common with hard labor, that's $4000 a month, and in this particular scenario, you'll hopefully be working under the table, so no taxes (only if you're outside the US, of course, because I'd certainly never imply gettin' one over on "Uncle" Sam tsk tsk).

- Live on $1000 a month. Yes, I know that sounds like fuck all in the States, but you could if you tried, so bear with me here. How bad do you want something better?

Hell, I'm pretty sure I could live on $500 a month in most places if I really wanted to...

The problem with most laborers (who actually make decent cash), is they're shit at keeping it in their pockets. They like cool toys, they travel long distances to work, they throw money at women, and, most of all, they like blowing buckets of cash at the bar with their buddies.

So commit to living at $1000 a month. Find the cheapest accommodations you can. Make a low-budget plan for food. Tiring yourself at work will make it so you don't need to go out as much, and if you've got extra time on the weekends, start an internet biz, wait some tables, or watch movies on Netflix and jack off.

- Put the left-over $3000 a month in savings or a stash of cash for now. Every. Single. Month.

- Get this. In 5 short months, you'd have $15,000 saved up by following that plan. 5 months goes by fast when you're on the grind...After all, what did YOU accomplish in the last 5 months?

- Now, go do something with that 15K that puts you up to the next level. Do not waste it on stupid shit!

Hell, you might even decide to stick with it for a year and set $36,000 aside. Or spot an opportunity somewhere in there that could turn into something much bigger...

But even if not, can you think of some way you could leverage that initial 15K? Some training you could get or a place where you could take a cashed-out RV and bust your ass (North Dakota) to the next level?

Of course you can.

Will you have to make sacrifices? Sure. But you'd learn a lot too, maybe build some valuable skills. Learn how to socialize with other guys. Prove something to yourself.

Even if you're embarrassed about being a man that doesn't have man-like skills or that true grit, just keep in mind that everyone has to learn somewhere. maybe you'll even have to start at $15 because of your lack of experience - oh well. Sure, the homies at the job site will clown the new guy at first, but even if you had more skill than them they'd clown you about something else. It's just what they do.

Shit, walk by a work site and you'll see that most laborers aren't made of steel or anything. They're just average peeps who use their bodies to bring in a paycheck.

Yeah, I have mentioned construction work many times on this forum for the young bucks.

I did it when I was younger and loved it. Decent coin if you hustle and work all the angles.

Men should know how to work with their hands.

Solid post, BB. I have a boring day job that gives me a lot of free time. I've been scouting college basketball as a volunteer/intern lately, but when college basketball season ends I was thinking of picking up another hustle to get some extra money. I took a pay cut to keep my old job and have been able to stick to the under $1000 a month living. The winter is a brutal time to be doing construction work where I live, but I'll look into waiting tables or something else just for the extra income.

For sure.

To be completely honest, those particular examples aren't ideal, as it may be harder to keep the work flowing unless you find someone who runs a landscaping biz and pays a solid rate. But they're out there. I live in a rural area where everyone is cash rich and have never had issues keeping the schedule full of this type of work (when I wanted it).

Mostly for property owners, etc, but you'll also find the ocaissional jack of all trades who does this stuff on the regular as an under-the-table business model.

I'd recommend construction-related jobs as a better way - start out fetching tools and cleaning up after every one else and move your way up to pounding nails. I hear there are a lot of casinos being built near San diego right now, and thus a lot of demand for laborers in the area, but I can't vouch for it. Concrete work is hard as hell but pays. Roofing.

Drywall is an especially good one because you can do it year-round - same with painting. For under-the-table work, just walk in to job sites and ask someone who doesn't look too busy if you can speak to the guy in charge. If you're humble and look eager to work, someone will give you a chance to bust your ass. You can find jobs on Craigslist sometimes too.

As an alternative, pick up your phone book and hunt down all the big construction firms in your local area. I'd get their address and walk right into the office to ask about work. These guys probably have a basic process for entry-level laborers, but you'll most likely have taxes taken out of the paycheck too.

Best way, however, is if you went to high school or college in the area. Call up everyone who ended up in construction or a trade and ask if they know someone who needs a hand. This is how most hiring goes down in labor jobs. Call friends that live far away and relocate if you have to - guys you went to school with, guys you were in the military with, guys whose sisters you shagged for a while, your cousins, brothers, uncles...

Network in bars, especially sports bars. But get out of the bars after you land some work because you'll need to save $$$ - it'll be tempting to get caught up partying every weekend with the younger guys on the crew.

And every one of us knows, I would think, one or two guys who got into construction work right out of high school and has been all about business ever since. Maybe owns a couple big trucks and a nice house but works 6 or 7 days a week. Probably has his contractor's license and may dabble in real estate now.

You might have always considered him simple, maybe even "blue pill," lol, but this guy is smart, skilled, and very well-connected. Call him first, even if it means swallowing your pride.

Or if you want to work for yourself and live in an area with decent weather, buy a lawn mower, a weed-eater, a leaf-blower, and a stack of books on "how to start a landscaping business." Marketing will be your biggest challenge, but your sweet spots are getting in with property management companies and other self-employed tradesmen, like painters, for instance.

I did this in college and soon had three of my bros working for me. I just drove around bidding jobs between classes.

My buddy got out of rehab last year, a guy who can't hold down a job to save his life, and did the same. After getting in with a rental company's good graces, he had far more work than he could handle and was calling me to ask for help. Had his cousin working for him too.

Threw it all away when he went off the deep end again, but if he'd have stuck with it...

A junk-hauling biz can do great too, if you've got a truck. Connect with a friend who'll sell all the cool stuff you get from jobs on Craigslist and split the profit with you.

Remember that when you act the entrepreneur yourself the expenses are your responsibility, so be sure to figure them into your rates and quotes. There will be a learning curve.

After reading the "Gay Work" post that really astounded me - especially on a Red Pill site - I decided to post this informal data sheet:

Independent Painting Contractor is probably the best Job you can create for yourself in most places in the country.... After 9-11 IT/Systems work got so slow that I looked at buying a paint contracting biz in the old money/new money multi-millionaires upscale Boston suburbs from an acquaintance and worked with him for several months to recon the opp (turned out he was a pot smoking and dealing hustler who wanted to keep first count of the money and have me do and manage all the work so he could take his GF's out on his sail boat for pot, booze and phuk cruises - not bad work if you can find a sucker).

Anyways he had a $180K to $200K+ backlog of work most all the time and was making money hand over fist in a seacoast suburb of Boston popular with rich corp execs, MD/DMD/Lawyers and mutual fund/stock broker types.

The dirty little secret of this business is that most work is instigated by ladies and over a glass of wine will admit they do not like to and will not hire illegals due to the horror stories of stuff being robbed or worse rapes - because of this if they get a referral from their church for a good man they can trust they will wait nearly forever to get "their man" on the job. He also scoped out the local divorcee's who cleaned out some poor bastard in a divorce lottery and would do a few of their "honey do" jobs for standard rates and picked up a few stay over perks when the kids were with their old man - had at least a half dozen in his rotation - also kept them supplied with POT which is now legal for med purposes in MA so had a steady cash side income - one of the divorcee's had two trusts worth more $20M so he never gave a discount - he actually charged at least double and did a meticulous job and they were ecstatic especially if you tell them if there is any little spot you do not like let me know and I will fix it.

As I was going to say ladies many who now own the homes as widows or divorcees always get referrals from people they trust and now they do use Angie's list a lot so take your time - do a good job and leave the place clean every day if working for homeowners. SBA in most areas teaches basic how to bid a job courses - it is simple in painting - labor for prep and paint and materials and that is it.

Look for upscale areas and do what my acquaintance did befriend a few of the local pastors - do some odd painting jobs for them pro bono and they will be so happy they will announce that you are a painter and they will introduce you as such. Various protestant sects are happy to do this to intro new members though RC not so much - you can stack at least 3 services per Sunday ask around and you can sniff out the old and new money parishes.

Don't forget to ask the pastor and ladies for glowing reviews on Angies List - help them set up their accounts it you have to. (Have reviews pre-printed for the job describing the great prep paint and clean up job you did and give them with the final bill).

What are the start up costs? Rent a local UPS Mail Box Etc mailing address for the card and just get an unlimited phone and text plan... So Vista Print Biz cards $10, a UPS/MBE biz adx $150 a year, Smart Phone you probably already have (Be sure to get everyone's emergency Phone so that every spring and summer and fall you can send text SMS campaign on your services - no discounts - but inform them when you are available to book work almost always had a 2 to 3 month backlog and scheduled indoor only jobs for the fall and took winter off and went to FLA.

Painting is personal to ladies they do NOT want people in their homes they can not trust and who might trash the place (Never Smoke or Drink on the job and clean up all trash every day - brign your own lunch coffe tea and water they will respect you more - until you convert them to MILF Divorcee rotation - it is really that simple) so if you can be clean cut and social - do a great job you will get a lot of referrals and with the MILF Divorcees lots of poon rotation as well as great pay and perks - better gig than straight pimpin. Invest in a pair of clean painters pants and shirt - shower and shave before each bid as though you are going out on a date - a little cologne for the ladies will not hurt - make sure it is the understated expensive stuff they like their men to wear - no alchohol on your breath ever even if she is a drinker - also find a local hot honie lass who does wallpapering and stenciling and crap and sub her on some of your jobs - having a young woman out of work college grad who works with you puts the Widows, Divorcees and MILFs at ease. Keep a few wing girls in rotation for work and pleasure as they flake as soon as any better shiny object comes along - no worries - keeps you in a fresh rotation - new rich out of work college girls who take unmarketable psych socialogy dance art etc majors from upscale areas every year - Ads to teach them painting and interior decoration - will get plenty at $10 to $15 an hour under the table. Make sure you see their licenses and never bang anything under 19-20 as the "18 year olds" lie when they are only jail bait - not good for biz to get arrested on a statutory.

Tips of the Trade - While bidding always drop your biz card off a local Real Estate Agents office managers and tell them you are expert at prepping and painting a home for sale - light pressure wash and a good coat of one coat paint as many corp relos are empty and the best sales tool is a fresh coat of paint - on these jobs they are quick and dirty and often paid for by the agency office manager owner to insure a quick sale - lots of ways to fix dry rot with painters caulk and silicone window putty and keep notes of the repairs you would make if you bought the house and then come back and offer to due a buff and polish job for the new owners and then point out the problems areas you found - but NEVER point out problems before you get the buff a polish job as they might catch on oe the fact that the fresh paint job their Realtor mentioned was a Q&D or quick and dirty - always best to find the problems during a new buff and polish job for any odds and ends they might like and then charge accordingly to "maintain their homes value".

These days I'm a full time affiliate marketing scumbag. I don't do SEO/blogging bullshit, I do paid traffic. It's high risk/high reward, but there is big money to be made. I advertise on traffic sources such as Facebook and Google AdWords. I worked at it full time and lost money almost every day for a solid 13 months, but eventually I figured something out. These days I'm making nice money from it. On Sunday I banked >900 profit. Today was a "slow" day (I'll make about $300 profit by the end of the day).

The main issue with what I do is that it's EXTREMELY volatile. You can make x,xxx profit/day for a week, and everything can come crashing down the next day. SO many things can go wrong. Until you get the hang of it, it's extremely confusing/tedious. But once you hit a big campaign and know what you're doing it's practically passive income. The other day I woke up at 12, went to the gym, saw a movie in the theaters, went to whole foods, came home, and noticed that I made $700 profit. I can't really complain these days. I finally have enough money to move out of my parents place and move to NYC (just looking for the right place now). If all goes well then next year I'll likely get on the international playboy lifestyle.

The other downside is that I spend most of my time sitting in front of my computer and I don't get out as much as I'd like to (which will change very soon when I move to NYC).

I'd recommend this to anybody who has LOTS of time to kill (which you have to spend learning new skills), more patience than you know what to do with, and who is willing to burn through about $6-10k. I'd especially recommend this to the young guys living at home with your parents still... find a side job and invest 80% of your paychecks into this. Use the other 20% for personal things. The pros of this industry FAR outweigh the cons. One caveat... I only hit success with this because I have a VERY smart mentor who was willing to teach me. (Not to sound like a douche, but I'm not willing to mentor anybody new right now so don't waste your time ask me). IMO, finding a good mentor is the absolute biggest factor in determining your success. You'll never learn as fast as you're capable of without a good mentor.

Piggy back off your parents.

If they have a business, apply some young thinking to it, market the shit out of it, and expand it into an empire.

If they work in a profession, leverage their knowledge and industry contacts to start a business that markets something to people in that field. Or join them to start a "father & son" or "mother & son" business.

If you don't have parents you can piggy back off of, find relatives you can.

If not relatives, then work for free for somebody who'll let you piggy back off them after time served.

It's always easy to piggy back off someone who can give you a running start versus doing something from scratch.

I handle the city-wide brand image/activation of 2 internationally successful spirit brands through promotions and merchandising as my main source of income.
This job only requires me to work around 3 days a week so I'm looking to gain another source of income through my own skills (rather than working for someone)
I've thought about setting up my own brand activation business but every time I try I spend about 2 hours thinking of a name/logo and then give up.
Also I have no idea how I'd find my first client with no portfolio...

Beauty is you never buy any special equipment until you have the job and the up front 50% pays for it - rent at first and then buy (Pressure washers, compressors, orbital sanders, scaffolds/ladders, sprayers for bigger jobs, super expensive oil paint trim brushes, metal brush holders in oil and auto pressure rollers etc etc)... Most guys get a trailer with a hitch lock they can leave their gear and extra primer, paint, tarps etc in overnight without it being stolen and keeps the job site clean and organized.

He also scoped out the local divorcee's who cleaned out some poor bastard in a divorce lottery and would do a few of their "honey do" jobs for standard rates and picked up a few stay over perks when the kids were with their old man - had at least a half dozen in his rotation - also kept them supplied with POT which is now legal for med purposes in MA so had a steady cash side income - one of the divorcee's had two trusts worth more $20M so he never gave a discount - he actually charged at least double and did a meticulous job and they were ecstatic especially if you tell them if there is any little spot you do not like let me know and I will fix it.

As I was going to say ladies many who now own the homes as widows or divorcees always get referrals from people they trust and now they do use Angie's list a lot so take your time - do a good job and leave the place clean every day if working for homeowners. SBA in most areas teaches basic how to bid a job courses - it is simple in painting - labor for prep and paint and materials and that is it.

Look for upscale areas and do what my acquaintance did befriend a few of the local pastors - do some odd painting jobs for them pro bono and they will be so happy they will announce that you are a painter and they will introduce you as such. Various protestant sects are happy to do this to intro new members though RC not so much - you can stack at least 3 services per Sunday ask around and you can sniff out the old and new money parishes.

Don't forget to ask the pastor and ladies for glowing reviews on Angies List - help them set up their accounts it you have to. (Have reviews pre-printed for the job describing the great prep paint and clean up job you did and give them with the final bill).

What are the start up costs? Rent a local UPS Mail Box Etc mailing address for the card and just get an unlimited phone and text plan... So Vista Print Biz cards $10, a UPS/MBE biz adx $150 a year, Smart Phone you probably already have (Be sure to get everyone's emergency Phone so that every spring and summer and fall you can send text SMS campaign on your services - no discounts - but inform them when you are available to book work almost always had a 2 to 3 month backlog and scheduled indoor only jobs for the fall and took winter off and went to FLA.

This is one of the best posts I have read on the forum. There is one thing I would like to add, however. Painting an existing residential structure can be, and often is, considered "home improvement." In many states, home improvement contractors are required to obtain a specific license which allows them to act as a home improvement contractor. Acting as a home improvement contractor without the proper license is a criminal offense in the jurisdiction in which I practice, among other jurisdictions. Many people who work as painting and/or home improvement contractors can work in that capacity for many years without the required license and never have one problem. Generally, if the work is properly done, the homeowner does not complain and not having a license is a non-issue. That is too big of a risk to take. Obtaining the proper license is crucial, not only to avoid possible criminal prosecution, but also to be able to show homeowners that you are properly licensed. At least some homeowners will require proof that you are properly licensed before agreeing to contract you.

Most of the cases in which a homeowner files criminal charges against a home improvement contractor are not cases in which the only work being performed by the contractor is painting. Most cases involve constructing an addition, carpentry work, drywall, etc. Generally, the problem is that the contractor either doesn't finish the work or doesn't perform to the homeowner's satisfaction which leads the homeowner to inquire with the proper agency to see if the contractor is properly licensed. If the contractor is not properly licensed, charges are often filed for acting as a contractor without a license, failure to perform a contract, and/or theft. Theft is a more extreme problem where instead of failing to complete the job or performing in an unsatisfactorily manner, a contractor accepts a payment, then never performs any part of the job.

My point is, find out exactly what licenses, permits, bonding, and insurance is required in the state in which you plan to plan to operate a painting business and make absolute sure that you comply with all applicable laws.

The main issue with what I do is that it's EXTREMELY volatile. You can make x,xxx profit/day for a week, and everything can come crashing down the next day. SO many things can go wrong. Until you get the hang of it, it's extremely confusing/tedious. But once you hit a big campaign and know what you're doing it's practically passive income. The other day I woke up at 12, went to the gym, saw a movie in the theaters, went to whole foods, came home, and noticed that I made $700 profit. I can't really complain these days. I finally have enough money to move out of my parents place and move to NYC (just looking for the right place now). If all goes well then next year I'll likely get on the international playboy lifestyle.

The other downside is that I spend most of my time sitting in front of my computer and I don't get out as much as I'd like to (which will change very soon when I move to NYC).

I'd recommend this to anybody who has LOTS of time to kill (which you have to spend learning new skills), more patience than you know what to do with, and who is willing to burn through about $6-10k. I'd especially recommend this to the young guys living at home with your parents still... find a side job and invest 80% of your paychecks into this. Use the other 20% for personal things. The pros of this industry FAR outweigh the cons. One caveat... I only hit success with this because I have a VERY smart mentor who was willing to teach me. (Not to sound like a douche, but I'm not willing to mentor anybody new right now so don't waste your time ask me). IMO, finding a good mentor is the absolute biggest factor in determining your success. You'll never learn as fast as you're capable of without a good mentor.

Damn I used to be into affiliate marketing and made a couple of hundred bucks a month. It was great I wasnt doing shit but at some point the manufacturer of the product I promoted stopped the affiliate program and I was back to zero. Paid traffic sounds good if you have a working formula, but I dont really wanna invest any money. I was relying on organic traffic and it can take ages before you got a decent amount of visitors.

I make a living with online freelancing nowadays which beats sitting in an office all day, but this post reminds me I really need to get my shit together and start building some passive income again. Its about 8 PM and I still have to write 2 articles about shit I couldnt care less about. Meanwhile other dudes just scratch their nuts and have cash rolling in.

Have you considered selling your own info product? If you know how to drive traffic and convert you might as well be selling your own stuff and not have to rely on third parties anymore.
