I second Tijuana, Mexico. Sad city, a vibe of broken dreams and crushed souls.
The town is basically built 5m from the border. You can see the desert, and the search lights across the metal wall. Really weird.

Tijuana isn't all that bad,I don't get why so many people hate it. You can live in Tijuana, and be in California in a matter of 30 minutes. It is really cheap, and there are lots of pretty girls, and the food is awesome, and you still hate it because it's not safe and dirty? Every city has it's ups and downs, TJ is no different.

I went to Cairo for work. It was the worst dump I have ever been to. My 4 star hotel had 4 stars because they had an extra gallon of paint. There was an empty castle across the street populated only with feral dogs. The food sucked, the beer was warm, the women uniformly unfuckable. I do not mean you could not fuck them. I mean it would be impossible to get an erection for a single woman i saw in 5 days. The traffic is surreal. I live in DC and we have some ugly traffic but Cairo is indescribeable. I put ice in my warm beer and immediately became so ill that i could not leave my room as I could not take my bathroom with me. There were middle class marriages every night in my hotel. The last day I was there I read an article in the paper about a couple who were married there in the hotel. Dude takes his new little 18 year old wife home and finds she is not a virgin and KILLS her. No charges as he was justified. Enough said.

Tip for keeping your beer warm without the ice melting (In Miami they do this so your beer doesn't get watered down, not because the ice will make you violently ill), but the ice in a plastic bag. I'm surprised to hear that Egyptian women are ugly. I find many women from many of the surrounding countries to be beautiful.

Thanks for the tip. I was surprised as well. I like the dark hair and the skin colr of most arab/persian women. I was struck that I did not see even 1 woman in the town who was attractive to me. I probably should have gotten out of the area around my hotel and have gone down to spend time in the hotel zone by the river. I did go there on my way to the pyramids and did not see one winner. It was during their winter and as such there were less tourists than one might expect.

The downtown east side in Vancouver.

Hundreds of mentally ill, rotting, drug addicted and disabled people just stumbling around yelling to themselves. One of the saddest things I've ever seen was when me and some friends left a strip club that is pretty close to main/hastings. My friend was drunk and putting on his hoodie while walking. As soon as he puts the hoodie over his head (can't see at this point) a crackwhore runs up to ask for change or something. Hes struggling to get his arm through the hoodie and ends up sticking it through and swinging hard knocking her straight in the face. We all kind of went silent. She started crying and saying how sorry she was for bothering him and that she would go away etc. He gave her $10 and she left.

I saw her eyes just as she looked up, they were just vacuous pits of sadness.

It's got everything the OP mentioned, except you can't actually see the women's faces, Alcohol and nightlife in general is pretty much banned.
The risk of kidnapping was about the only thing keeping me sane.

The city itself is actually quite amazing because of all the ancient temples, but outside of all the ancient things it's a complete ghetto. Blistering heat, horrible infrastructure, lepers sitting around begging for change, extreme poverty. Not many pretty girls walking around either.

Definitely don't have the travel experience most have, but I've been fortunate enough to get to a lot of the islands in the Caribbean.

Biggest Shithole in that region for me would have to be Jamaica. I've heard that Hispanola was one of the worst places on earth, but my travels to the DR have been nothing short of fantastic. Especially around the coasts, a lot of the infrastructure looks fairly modernized. I imagine Haiti is a whole other beast though...

Couldn't say the same about Jamaica, there were certainly some Western businesses located there, but I mostly saw dilapidated buildings made out of hunks of jagged metal and plastics. Worst thing I saw was a house made out of a port-a-potty. (Johnny on the Spot) The dirt roads went to absolute shit when it rained, there was pollution all over the sides of the road, and groups of beggars swarmed the group I was with constantly. On our drive through one of the cities by the coast of Montego Bay, a naked man carrying a spear came out of the woods, stopped in the middle of the road and demanded that our driver pay him a toll. (Didn't happen) Only redeeming quality I found were the all-inclusive resorts. Nice beaches, good talent (mostly European tourists and hotel staff), and lots of security at these places who can organize transport for you. (if need be) Although pricier, this is the only reason I would consider going back...no way would I try my luck outside the resort scene or in a big city like Kingston, but to each his own.

And about St. Louis...stay out of North and East St. Louis and you'll be fine.

Camden is fucking terrible. 2 areas in this state that are also bad are Newark and parts of Asbury Park. The later where I go to on occasion has this one nice spot that a pizza place by day and a nightclub at you guessed it, night. Go across the tracks and literally it's like you changed dimensions. Part of town where at night(or anytime of the day) you go through the stop signs. Always reports of shootings and crime coming out that one part of town.

Yes, Ecuador is worth it if you go to Montanita. Very fun place. I also hear good things about Banos and I'm sure there are some other cool spots in the Amazon. Definitely avoid Guayaquil. The place is straight up depressing. I was so bummed to find out I had to spend another day there on my way back down to Peru. I stayed at the closest hostel to the airport that I could find, as I didn't plan on doing anything in Guayaquil. The hostel had mold all over the shower, plus no hot water. I didn't even feel clean after taking the shower. It definitely seemed pretty seedy too, but nothing bad happened to me there.
