Girls in Floripa can be "Western looking", I wouldn't say they are exotic at all. Then again, I'm Brazilian, and I have no idea what you consider "exotic". Just so you know, women in the south of Brazil tend to be more fair skinned and leaning towards blond. But Brazil is very mixed, you can find women of all types there.

Floripa is very unlike the US, it is a much more laxed environment.

Nightlife in Floripa is not abundant, you'd have to do some homework, but you'd find some nice spots.

The way I read it, I'd say Floripa would be a more enriching (is that a word?) experience for you.

I'd say that one of the main ideas behind leaving your country is that things will be different! You seem to the type that will benefit from a less tamed environment, so my call is Brazil.

France, Paris is not similar to US at all. I have no idea what makes you have that impression. If you go there thinking it is any similar, you'd be disappointed.

Have you considered going to the UK?

Thanks. When I say similar I am basically saying American Globalization has had a bigger effect on Paris than Florianopolis. I am sure NYC is more "similar" to Paris than to Florianopolis.

Yes i have considered london, that was actually my first choice, but you must be a junior in order to go and im a freshman.

I am still leaning toward Brazil.

Going to Floripa wouldn't be a bad move if you're looking to learn Portuguese and want to have ties with Brazil. Not a bad idea as that country is booming.

You would definitely make more friends in Brazil than in Paris. No doubt.

I knew a girl in Floripa who met some average looking British guy who spoke Portuguese. He studied down there for a year. They ended up getting married. She was WAY beyond his league. I'm still baffled by it. She was even taking care of him as a broke student and waited for six months after he left to finish school in the UK before he came back and married her. They live in the UK now. Unreal.

If I had to compare Floripa to anywhere I've been, I would say the vibe is kinda like Hawaii. The Floripa I saw though may be much different than the one many tourists saw. I was hanging out with a surfer friend and we stayed at one of the less touristy beaches, which happened to be some of the best beaches for surfing. I didn't really go out to many touristy clubs either. It seemed most the places he took me were more local. We were some-what close to Lagoa area, and we partied a couple times near lagoa as well.

Well, I'm quite well versed in both. I'd just add that girls in Floripa would be way (way!) easier and friendlier, but Hawaii you can party non-stop every night of the week, something that won't happen in Floripa. Lookwise, hot girls in both places.

Went to Floripa for 6 nights in December 2011..well last year. It was unfortunately before Christmas day so the beach parties weren't really off the hook as only Taiko was open. Some pointers:

1) For hooking up, I can't really recommend this place to non-Portuguese speakers. I was in the middle of a intensive 2.5 year Portuguese program in the US while in Floripa, but completed it upon May 2012. It was good for a couple of hookups but no chicks really put it out. I still managed to do a lot better than 98% of the other non Portuguese speaking gringos visiting though.

2) Go to Floripa after Christmas Day till about late Feb for all the good happenings. Nightlife and other happenings are kind of tame off peak season.

3) The island is really spread out big time, and the bus system is VERY inefficient. This makes taxi costs very expensive at nights as there will be big gaps between seeing packs of hotties during the day, which can be frustrating. Go to a more walkable city like Porto Alegre where everything is accessible by foot thus equaling more eye candy consistently from morning till night. I think the POA metro area has around 2-3 million people altogether crammed within a much smaller walkable space, which is going to equal more interaction whereas Floripa is so spread out and only possesses 4-500 K people.

4) Daygame strategy could be had on the bus during vacation season as I met very intriguing foreigners and travelers from other parts of Brazil. Spent one day beach hopping with this one gal from Sao Paulo with a nice athletic body/mediterranean look who didn't speak English. Kissed..but she didn't put out.

5) As someone said in this thread, the best game flies in from Sao Paulo during peak season and can be found around Jurere Internacional. You'll see a lot of eyes rolling around like a meat market, and it can be easier to start a conversation with "De onde voce e?" because everybody is from somewhere different in more of a vacation resort environment. I got a lot of stares from women, and people tended to be friendlier bc of all these out of towners naturally packed into this compact space along Jurere. But you're not really getting any unless you speak Portuguese though...

6) Fun place to go is the Black Swan Bar where all the ex-pats are at night in Lagoa de Conceicao. I don't like places like that usually, but the cover bands are really good as you'll see some amazing local hotties there. Bad news for gringos is you're not seen as exotic unless you can speak Portuguese. Fortunately for me, I dance well, have a good sense of humor, and spoke Portuguese so I got to make out with one chick and got other contacts from females I still speak to in abundance.

7) Oh yeah screw the restaurants in Lagoa da Conceicao. All expensive, and my craving for a Pad Thai with one drink cost me 55-58 Reals.

8) A good cheap neighborhood to stay in IMO is Barra da Lagoa if you feel like being around good cheaper restaurants and just want to do the sightseeing thing. Quaint little barrio with good shops for souvenir shopping too.

9) A foreigner or American who speaks some grammatically sensible Portuguese IMO is still going to be better off than some big money hot shot flying in from Sao Paulo. Brazilians can be very clique-ish & territorial so you have to be an oddball unicorn that fell from the sky with game to really get their attention.

10) Avoid Forro places if going out alone. Forro is like a mix of salsa and country music as the chicks in those places can be quite territorial. Not really my genre of music or vibe hence why I didn't get to initiate any good conversations. I tried but struck out.

At the end of the day, I can't really recommend Floripa as a good place to perhaps start off at in Brazil if you want to game alone like I did. Your best bet would be to see other cosmopolitan cities like Sao Paulo, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, etc to build contacts. When you do that, you can set up group lodging with your friends from those places and THEN head down to Floripa with a nice pack during the high season saving you money while increasing the quality of your stay whether you want to be more inland or even on Jurere, which really helps. Even a lot of unmarried Floripa locals till their early 30s live at home with their parents, and therefore have the disposable income to share hotel lodging alone Jurere during peak season for all the happenings at Taiko, Cafe de La Musique, and P12. The good news for me at least is that I did manage to pull in the female contacts in Floripa who talk to me about getting lodging along Jurere if I ever decide to come down during Peak season.

Yes, it is funny that I have never heard of anyone "killing it" in Floripa. Though the quality seems damn good, I just think too many patricinhas go there......so good luck to any foreigner who isnt european looking, doesnt speak fluent portuguese and doesnt have a decent social circle.
The next alternative would be Natal (NE Brazil). Many Brazilians from all over the country also go there and it is the fastest growing tourist hub in Brazil.
I will be there for a month and have already rented an apartment close to the Ponta Negra Beach. I will hit on the Brazilian tourist girls (Paolistas, Cariocas, Mineiras) to see what kind of vibe I get there. It is not high season yet, but there should be enough tourists and local girls to keep me busy for a month. I shall report to the forum my findings in December.

Yeah I think the preferred guy in Floripa is likely going to be a local dude who looks of Italian descent. That same exact type of Italian guy however from say a Sao Paulo who banks is likely not going to kill it with local chicks in Floripa based on the territorial nature of Brazilian cliques and view of out of towners in general. Witnessed other Europeans, Australians, and Paulistas doing worse than I did, but I was at least the oddball North American Asian dude who spoke Portuguese really catching their attention.

I can't really give more details about Jurere peak season though as I left before Christmas Day, but I imagine it's a totally different ballgame with all these out of towners looking to get down & mingle though.

Have fun in Natal! I'm likely going there in May but staying in Pipa not to far off. Will report as well.

This is very good analysis about Floripa. However, there are minor exceptions to some of the negatives, which could lead to better results or at least a different perspective on things.

Going from apt to apt after 3-4 days each is also cheaper then nightly cabs into the different nightlife areas too.

This might not be as much of a problem in a bigger city like Rio or Sao Paulo where local peers can be tightly knit though Floripa peeps take it to another level.

I did meet some waitresses from Taiko (Jurere Beach Bar) that did not live at home however. For most people that move away from home, the cheaper place to reside in would be Centro. These chicks living alone in Centro are typically cooler and likely better for a ONS if you get the chance so that's a better area to stay in off peak season.

The higher end chicks that fly in here are from different parts of Brazil particularly Sao Paulo. These are the oober rich chicks that can outspend a traveling gringo 365 days a year. If they are single and traveling as packs or smaller groups, they might be more game & willing to put out as they're not trapped in that small town fish bowl mentality that Floripa locals reside in. I had a cougarish ex-roommate from Uruguay who said Floripa is generally more of an open market game with all these chicks coming in for vacation whereas all the Spanish speaking tourists and Brazilian women that go to Punta del Este are with boyfriends, temporary fuckbuddies, or very closed off cliques where chicks only sleep with guys they know or have known for an extended period of time.

Pretty accurate about the 60/40 part. But at least more than half of those dudes will be too scared to approach. I think a gringo with some Portuguese however can do well here...maybe even moreso than than Brazilian dudes with money...I did see some big shots from Sampa strike out one night whereas I at least got a makeout and more female attention as a unicorn-ish North American Asian dude with some language abilities.

As for the warm eyes from "local" chicks? You're right. Forget about it. Most of them want a local Santa Catarina guy. Gotta game well in Portuguese with some good dance moves to catch their attention. That worked well for me at the end (sorta) as my hookup was a local girl who I talk to quite a bit still.

Warm eyes from "outsider chicks" however? They'll definitely be in abundance in peak season around Jurere area. Keep in mind a common phrase around the peaks is "de onde voce e?" meaning "where are you from?" (De onde voces sao - where are you guys from). This place is like Vegas summer peak in the sense that all these tourists coming in are not from actually Vegas but different parts of the US or World looking for a random hookup being away from home. The icebreaker of "where are you from" especially in Portuguese should be more than enough to initiate.

It's too bad I couldn't really "hand the keys to the kingdom," but these are still useful tidbits about the local scene for those who want to not just visit Floripa in the future but also succeed.

There are very friendly high quality naive stunners in small beach villages and in centro. As for visiting off peak, there's other cities that are bigger with better logistics worth visiting because the small population dispersed in such a massive island means it'll take a ton of luck to even get the required interaction needed to capitalize.

I have female connections down there now so I'd visit again, but there's a whole list of other places I want to experience in BR before making that stop.

Went several years ago to Jurere International. It was aiiight, but I wouldn't rush to go back. Yes, there are lots of good looking girls, BUT...it seemed very clique-ish. As well, you need to be ready to drop MAJOR cash! Those beach clubs...Taiko, P12, etc...were even charging DAYTIME entrance fees. I was with a crew of guys and one of them did very well because he is a famous guy back in the states, tall, blond, and was highly recognizable. As a result, we did have girls around which made it fun, but it's a ton of work in my opinion. Note that we didn't move from Jurere Int, and it might have been better if we branched out to other beaches. We were there for New Years as I remember dancing under the stars at Taiko. Was a good night...and probably the most expensive NY party I've been to (and this was the cheapest of the bunch along the beach). I think it costs like $250 just to party there. P12 was even more...glad I saw it once, won't be rushing back.

Thx for the insight. It all makes sense. I bet it is quite a bit of work & I wouldn't mind going back to Floripa for the Jurere scene exclusively as I've had my share fun seeing the whole island in the past.

Taiko was the only open beach club open before Dec 26th/27th when I went "solo" back in 2011, but I found the people to be pretty social, talkative, and roaming the scene with their eyes. I wouldn't recommend this for non-Portuguese or non-Spanish speakers as that would make things exponentially tougher, but it is pretty game IMO. I would've stayed longer that day, but I had to get back to shower up for a couchsurfing meeting in Lagoa de Conceicao. Though my ex-Uruguayan roommate prefers Punta del Este more bc of her connections, she still believes Jurere & Floripa are more of an open market relatively speaking.

I'd go to Floripa for the fun, potential networking, and good times again minus the expectations of a ONS, haha.

Not only are the logistics bad, but a smaller city of only 400-500K means you're going to meet chicks that share an expensive cab in packs of 4+ to each nightlife venue to cut costs down & will deal with some ridiculous C-blocking.

Keep in mind a chick will have to get a very long expensive cab back home after a night of sex or holler at a friend to pick up. This isn't say Porto Alegre where chicks can walk back or bus it back for cheap in the morning. Also "potential rumours" spread like white on rice in smaller cities so going home with an English speaking only gringo will be sure to cause a scene especially in a place where not many have a 2nd language outside of Portuguese. This might not be as much of a problem in a bigger city like Rio or Sao Paulo where local peers can be tightly knit though Floripa peeps take it to another level.

I did meet some waitresses from Taiko (Jurere Beach Bar) that did not live at home however. For most people that move away from home, the cheaper place to reside in would be Centro. These chicks living alone in Centro are typically cooler and likely better for a ONS if you get the chance so that's a better area to stay in off peak season.

I think yb13 hit the nail on the head here. Sound advice. So basically you're saying you have nowhere to bring the girls back bacan? As yb13 said, most Brazilian girls in general are going to be living at home until they get married. This makes it near impossible to take them back to their houses. Your best bet if you can't take them to your pad is a love motel. I don't remember seeing many in Floripa, but I'm certain they exist, I wasn't looking for them. But in comparison, I wasn't looking for them in other cities either but couldn't miss them. I would honestly suggest taking the pussy hunting to another city and just chill and enjoy the beach in Floripa. If you come upon some nice tale, make the effort, but I wouldn't make it your number one priority. As stated in the post you quoted, logistics are a bitch. When I was there I didn't see GREAT talent (Though still wasn't bad at all, just seen better in Brazil. I would def. consider one of the most over rated places in Brazil though in terms of women), but hear otherwise during peak season. It's a great place, just not a great place to get laid.

There you go. Sounds like you've got the best of both worlds. I wouldn't mind that situation. Floripa is a really nice island. Logistics are tough, so as long as you have a nice one lined up (In Brazil I don't think I'd settle with anything less than an 8) and can get a little work in on the side, sounds like you're headed in the right direction. If you surf, you'll have even more fun, and also if you surf, check out Praia Do Rosa an hour to the south.

Did spend two weeks on the island of the Florianopolis (one week at Praia Ingleses) and one week in the south Ribeirao Da Ilha area and left just before the real crowds descend on the island that is just before X-mass. It was family vacation so the aim of this trip was to chill out and explore the area... so here are my few cents in terms of my observations and what I gathered speaking to people....(note did not personally explore night venues).

The high season starts from X-mass and lasts about the end of March....here. The north part of the island ...infrastructure mainly tailored around tourism.The North is also more residential and it's where a lot of Argentinians and Paulistas have summer homes that are empty most of the year and occupied in the summer here. The place picks up in the summer when folks arrive with numbers. I found Praia Ingleses mainly family types but the south end of the beach offers more to the eye .....The popular spot for party is Jurere International ...but be aware this is where the rich come to play with the whole package along .....not exactly my scene......

The South - I prefer this part of the island away from typical touristic setups .....more laid back..fisherman villages...but some areas still can be busy.....however this is more if you want to relax...there is little nightlife ...

From this Forum perspective:

The best beaches in my opinion:
Praia Mole - day time trip...little infrastructure in terms of accommodations....good vibe
Campeche - a mixture of a crowd ....lots of rental properties etc....mostly residential.....good vibe
The best places to stay:
Lagoa de Conceicao - central location.....some night life e.g. Black Swan, internet access - Cafe Cultura...
Barra de Lagoa - cool spot, more quiet, nice beach too...great vibe around the canal

recommend to rent a car or motorbike or in some cases bike will do
Traffic can be bad .....the fastest way around motorbike....
There are buses ...but did not use them


The Women
mixed bag of potatoes ....some really good looking ....some just average...generally friendly but if you do not speak portuguese your chances are slim .....(I may also be biased after recent Cuba experience)..mind you I left just before high gear season.

Game
Your game starts with the language skills, confidence and you will need to have some sort of appeal...but you do not stand out here generally speaking if you coming from western world.

Nightlife Recommendations

Main nightlife areas?
Lagoa de Conceicao and Centro (City Centre)

Budget: in Floripa (in R$)

You can operate on a budget or you can also spend a lot - it depends on you
are you staying @ hostel or renting place..etc
eating local all you can eat buffet or restaurant etc....
generally speaking things are not cheap...but you can manage.
Beer @ Praia R$7-8 600ml bottle
you can fill out your stomach for R$10-12...home quality meal
during high season you will pay much more....for some items e.g. rentals..

Liveability

From Real Estate perspective : Island generally is overpriced ....mainland offers much better options.
Still if you consider the full picture ....not a bad spot as base in Brazil......will be looking into this in more depth.

The Bottom Line:
Great place for vacation, if you looking forward to chill ...enjoy water sports , beach and nature..
also relatively safe. Do not come here with expectation that you will be scoring high....but if you want to have fun and enjoy yourself why not...and who knows you may after all hook-up with some cutie...
If you want to have more adventures in Brazil with women I would suggest to go North East.... Salvador.....Recife..etc....
