I don't think H&M is that good! I just bought a jacket from H&M, and to be honest it's slightly better than Primark. Zara in the UK is not that cheap though.

What annoys me is how hard it is to find shirts with a trim waist. My waist is fairly average, about 33", yet even slim fit shirts are baggy at the waist. It's like every clothesmaker is trying to fit 90% of the market, which includes lots of fatties.

I'm like a 33"-34" inch waist and I never had a dress shirt fit me until i came to the UK.

Btw, T.M. Lewin has nice shirts which aren't that badly priced.

Of all the off the rack shirts I've tried, Charles Tyrwhitt Extra Slims are the best. They're the slimmest in the waist of any shirt I've tried. The fabric, patterns, French cuffs and no-iron treatment are also great. Can be had on sale for $40 a shirt. Metal collar stays. Like Brooks Brothers, but better in every way, including the price.

From what I've seen, if you want better, you'll have to spend 50-100% more, probably on custom shirts online, which can take a few tries to get right. I do have an Indochino that I bought in a Thrift store that's even better than my CT extra slim fit shirt, at least in the cut.

Approximately what a shirt should look like, and perhaps even slimmer around the waist so that fabric doesn't puff up as you see on the right. Practically impossible to get a shirt this slimly cut without going custom.

Haven't tried Lewin, but CT reviews are more favorable.

Depends what you are looking for, I've bought a few things from H&M, but i'm very particular in what i wear.

Uniqlo is awesome. I'm a slim guy and their large v-necks fit me pretty well, although some are slightly too short. The company claims they're identical, but they can be off by about an inch.
