That's exactly what I was thinking! Don't get me wrong, I liked 4 and 6 as well. I would hate to think he wouldn't have any input at all, since the entire story is his idea. I just feel he needs someone to help him tell it.

Not all his idea, a large portion was inspired from Akira Kurosawa's "The Hidden Fortress"

I personally think George Lucas is extremely overrated and he got outed with Episode 1 and 2, 3 was watchable I do admit but a far cry from what the fans wanted.

Star Wars ripped off a lot of Edgar Rice Burrough's Barsoom series (aka Disney's failed John Carter)

People name all these other works that George Lucas supposedly stole Star Wars from, but in my opinion Star Wars reminds me more of the Bible than anything else!

What happened at the box office? Was Disney´s marketing strategy really that bad?
I enjoyed that movie, maybe a bit too much CGI, but great scenery. Although the script/story? I think Stanton shouldn´t have rewritten the story to such an extent. He had Burrough´s original book and all he should have done is to figure out how to adapt it for the big screen. Instead he just changed about 90% of the original story, for what? So instead of being awesome it turned out to be a good movie with nice visuals, nothing special. Well done, Stanton.

RE: Is Star Wars better off without George Lucas?
I will repost my post on this subject I left on another manosphere site:

I cannot understand this prequel hate, especially from red-pill guys. The prequel series is much more deeper and insightful. We see the story of a young man getting corrupted because of his deep attachment to the feminine, oneitis and a lack of respect for authoroty, likely caused by his own fatherlessness. We see a realistic process of the birth of a dictatorship. We see how evil acts as a white knight fighting lesser evil to gain power later. Due to this move I have gained insight on how Hitler created Nazi Germany, how Lenin created Communist Russia and how USA is being turned to a fascist socialist state right now. These movies are perfect mirrors of a Zeitgeist it was created under. Also the fact that these serious insights are entertaining at the same time with great battle scenes and special effects is commendable.

“So this is how liberty dies… with thunderous applause” – that is best quote I have heard from a Holywood movie ever. More actual now than ever.

Sorry but I consider prequel episodes to be superior to the original movies by far. The original movies were for little boys. The prequel movies while still for boys were also already for men who grew up from those boys. The reason why you were disappointed was probably because you wanted to return to your childhood trough these movies and tried to watch them as boys not men. Sorry, but its impossible to step into the same river twice.

But still from some reason I am sceptical that Dysney will do better. What I fear the most is a female main hero, patriarchal villains and Hollywood getting more feminist in general.

Not to mention that Padme’s haircuts were much more pleasant than those of Leia. Leia was horrible, the only instance where she looked attractive was when she was in the same screen as Jabba the Hutt. I disliked her character and still think it would have been better if Jabba had used her and then eaten her.

Despite my user name, i'm not a major fan boy of the series. I like the movies but find them a bit too childish also. The old ones as well as the new ones.

My new book Famles - Fables and Fairytales for Men is out now on Amazon.

The unbelievable thing was how good A New Hope and Empire were given he had something to do with them. Thank god CGI wasn't around in the 70s/80s so they actually had to focus on the narrative.

RE: Is Star Wars better off without George Lucas?
The first 3 movies were great because Lucas handed off his original script to be rewritten by a series of writers. If you read the original scripts they are TERRIBLE.

This is the main problem with the prequels, stardom went to Lucas's head and people stuck him on a pedestal. Anakin was a kid from a single mom who was way too confident for his age. They focused less on the wars and more on the politics. The first 3 were about individual stories the other 3 were a mish mash of bad characters and boring scenes. The only memorable stuff was the jedi fight scenes... and jar jar ugh. The movies were overcomplicated to the point that you could hardly keep track of all the characters who were being introduced. What happened to Captain Panaka or that Han Solo type guy from the first movie (pilot of the naboo yacht).... where did he go? They really should have focused on a new story.

Movies that beat the crap out of the prequels:

Space Raiders
The Last Starfighter
New Star Trek
Ice Pirates
Space Above and Beyond

That said, I have high hopes for the new ones. I sat in the theatre with my wife totally blown away by John Carter, it was fantastic. The 3D...amazing! We went into this movie with no idea what it was, there was almost 0 marketing about it. My wife is a girly girl and she was glued to it the whole way through. The only thing that caught my eye was the cardboard standup. I was really shocked to hear that it did so badly.
I mean prometheus was Terrible by comparison and it made loads more money... makes no sense really. I think Disney, if they did the KOTOR stories or the war between the Yuuzhan Vong could have serious potential.

CGI, when used right can be awesome... but all of the cockpits of the XWINGS were actually constructed and the sets of the original were real... They actually built complete Awings, Ywings and Xwings. I think when you actually build a set versus green screen the whole thing you get a better reaction out of the actors and something about it just seems more REAL. The CGI naboo fighters.... there was just something off about them... I just couldn't believe they were flying. Too shiny, too clean, too beautiful.... when anakin and the rest of the pilots were sitting in the cockpits... I didn't get a feeling of them even being there. If you look at the Old Battlestar Galactica, the actors give the feel of being real pilots, not a bunch of weirdos in hats. They really should have built the cockpits and focused more on the fighter combat. There is almost no dialogue between the characters during the fights... no bonding... just plain old shooting. It sucks... The first movie and the 3rd movie had dialogue between the fighter pilots. You actually felt bad for the guy who crashed his A-Wing into the Star Destroyers bridge.... I always felt like I was right there along with them. When Admiral Ackbar yells "Its a trap!", I always get that same feeling of "holy shit pull up!"... its important to see the reactions of the pilots and crew inside the vehicles, not just tanks and spaceships shooting at each other.

RE: Is Star Wars better off without George Lucas?
For anyone that thinks the prequels were good films, here's a 10 minute rundown pointing out the noob mistakes Lucas made with the prequels, and how good it could have been had he followed the winning formula of the original series:

- There was no "main character" in the prequels, but especially in Episode I. Because it tries to follow everything at once, the storyline gets muddled and confusing... and we never get to develop an emotional bond with a main character.

- Episode I bungled major opportunities to, once again, see the characters emotionally develop and find compelling motivation for their actions. Darth Maul should have survived the battle after killing Qui-Gon, thus giving a persistent nemesis and motivating Obi-Wan to seek revenge. Obi-Wan should have bonded with Padme more on-screen. Anakin should have been merely a confused boy (instead of annoyingly confident) that we later see develop into a skilled jedi. Etc.

And if you want a really in-depth dissection of all the prequels, check out the Harry Plinket Star Wars reviews by Red Letter Media. They're also fuckin hilarious:

This is great - I would actually want to see this movie. I'd prefer them to just remake the prequels and cancel the entire ruined backstory in episodes I-III, so we could pretend that never happened.

I can't think of anything that wouldn't be better off without George Lucas.
