Don't know if this has been brought up already as a topic but I thought I'd ask...

As nostalgic as I am, and as much as I credit George for fashioning characters that I genuinely looked up to during my youth, I'm of the opinion that Star Wars is better off without him. The last 3 movies where very close to being garbage, and only nostalgia and a few good fight scenes make them bearable. This is my opinion. What do you fellas think?

That's exactly what I was thinking! Don't get me wrong, I liked 4 and 6 as well. I would hate to think he wouldn't have any input at all, since the entire story is his idea. I just feel he needs someone to help him tell it.

I think he has some sort of throat disease. His goiter is huge, so he is probably really sick. That's why is retiring. Lucas shouldn't be allowed to direct after the new trilogy. Even the clone wars animation is an improvement over those.

Not all his idea, a large portion was inspired from Akira Kurosawa's "The Hidden Fortress"

I personally think George Lucas is extremely overrated and he got outed with Episode 1 and 2, 3 was watchable I do admit but a far cry from what the fans wanted.

3 was watchable, but that's about it. The other two were absolute disappointments. Also, Red Tails for the most part sucked too. Granted he didn't write that, but as the producer he should have seen it was not up to par. The dialogue for the new Star Wars was part Shakespeare and part Tiny Toons!

I could only imagine what Peter Jackson and his crew could do to to the Star Wars genre. LOTR trilogy speaks for itself.

A guy on my facebook noted how it was a win win. You either get a good movie or you get more funny reviews.

I love the Original starwars. The "new ones" were passable, being the 3rd the best by far!
They have the same symptom as Pirates of the Carribean. To much ridiculous love stories.

I'm curious as to what will disney do with the franchise.

Germanico, Thanks for this great find. I just watched the whole series and found it both funny as insightful.
There's actually a whole reviewing website behind it. I don't particularly like the format they use but the reviews are spot on so far.

The original three star wars movies are good old fashioned fun, but compared to the depth and literary backbone of The Lord of the Rings is like the difference between Harry Potter and Shakespeare.

I was thinking more in the way of a creation and beginning of time myth. I don't know of any they actually have, as they were lost with all the successive conquering.
