RE: TED presentation on negative effects of pornography
I really like the candy/shitty food analogy (I've heard the analogy but I'll expound upon it myself):
Our bodies are made to forage for food and get a dopamine release in finding quality food, foraging for yummy berries, working hard to kill a beast, etc. We used to have to WORK for it and the reward circuitry made this possible.
Now we have extremely calorie dense food that would blow the minds of our ancestors like a bag of wild berry Skittles. The shear concentration of energy in there just blows anything in the wild out of the water. People eat fast food or candy and feel great for a short period of time. You basically overwhelm your brain (especially if you do it often) and "normal life" seems dull and unexciting, with no motivation to pursue anything (when you have high-dense available at your closest grocery store).
Is this not a great analogy to porn?? You have perfect 10s getting stuffed in every hole, any way you like it. You can be on Pornhub.com or RedTube.com etc, and can literally see 100 extremely attractive females in an hour, if you watch a tens of seconds of video at a time (I think we've all done this). Its complete and utter overload, something our brains are completely unadapted for.
This makes tons of sense to me when after 4-5 days off of the fap-train, I find normal looking cute women (not perfect 10s) attractive again. I get a pump of good feelings off a simple smile or can admire a non-perfect-10 ass in front of me. You have a motivation to pursue things found in nature, since you're brain hasn't' been hijacked and overwhelmed.

Do people really not understand that there is more than one kind of porn in existence?
The fact is this: for every individual pro/studio produced western porn vid featuring a tanned, made up, often fake-boobed model assuming a bunch of exaggerated positions and pretending to be aroused there are dozens of amateur, semi-pro and non-western flicks featuring plenty of ordinary, cute girls (8's, 7's, 6's, 5's and, if you're into that sort of thing, old/obese 3's, 2's and 1's) enjoying more realistic sexual experiences with people they like?
This type of thing really isn't that hard to find. In fact, I'd contend that it is easier to find than the stuff featuring your aforementioned "perfect 10s".
Here's just one example (link blatantly NSFW). There are hundreds of others. If for whatever reason you find yourself drawn to porn and seek to keep your real-life expectations intact, there are plenty of options available to you. This kind of non-pro stuff is about 90% of what I look at, and I have never had any of the problems you mentioned (inability to admire ass of ordinary girl, inability to appreciate smile of cute girl, inability to motivate oneself to pursue cute girl, etc).
Remember: it isn't hard to maintain attraction to "real girls" after looking at porn when most of your porn consists of real girls.

I do appreciate there are these types of porn out there, and that there may be a difference as far as neurological effect. Keeping with the analogy, you've found your berries for the day (rather than over-whelming berry Skittles), so you don't really need to look for more, haha. I simply do not seek this type of porn however, I like the tens ala Brazzers type stuff.
Whatever floats your boat. I get extremely apathetic if I jerk too much. I'd rather just be out drinking and hanging out... banging doesn't even enter my mind.
From other posts it appears you work out a lot so maybe you simply have more free testosterone floating around. You're also younger correct? I'm in my late 20s.

Then it might be more accurate to implicate your own preferences for some of your issues with masturbation as opposed to implicating ALL porn (most of which isn't of the Brazzers type) and exaggerating the advantages of the "no-fap lifestyle". If you were able enjoy less professional porn, it is entirely possible that you'd have fewer of the issues you mentioned.

I'm 21-not a massive difference.
I do have high levels of testosterone relative to many, that is true. Porn helps to deal with that.

RE: TED presentation on negative effects of pornography
While the discussion is primarily about porn and not masturbation, it is important that after prolonged use, the two go hand in hand. The dopamine release and reception mechanics are the same, whether it's porn or fantasy. I've actually had erectile problems because of excessive "waxing the dolphin" before (no porn included except rarely), both because I developed "death grip" and because I was fantasizing too often and in too much detail / different girls, which had almost the same effect as porn.
To sceptics who wonder how fantasizing can be a problem even if you do it excessively (several times a day every day, for years), it got to the point that a girl was giving me a blowjob and I couldn't cum or stay erect unless I imagined her giving me a blowjob. It's some weird, scary shit. Since then, I've stopped all of it and feel much better and sexually satisfied.

Lol I can't jerk off to the same porn twice. I need that novelty. Thank the lord for high speed Internet and xnxx.com!
If the stash is large enough, that isn't an issue. Even older films can be "rediscovered" later, since individual vids can easily get lost in a large enough stash. It can be like having your own personal XNXX/Pornhub with no buffer times and filled only with videos of the types you yourself specifically prefer.
Once you've built a large enough stash, you can eliminate the need to get on a browser and search for new stuff every time you want porn, instead only doing that occasionally to keep the collection "fresh". Torrents, cheap filelockers and browser-based download apps (that allow you to DL any streaming vid on any site you want) make this all very easy.
Don't ask me how I know any of this...
Quote:Rule of thumb, if you find yourself jerking off to porn more than once every two days, you're not busy enough.
I keep a similar quota as well, though it is much more forgiving when I'm on campus. It has to be living in this wasteland I'm in-long dryspells are unavoidable.
I expect to more than make up for it this summer, as I do every break.

LOL I can imagine!
About finding stuff to do:
1. Get a job
2. Get a large social circle
3. Get a girlfriend if you have to.
4. If you can build a circle of fuck buddies, go for it.
5. Stop jerking off in public you horndog!
