RE: The truth about the Philippines
Is it possible to get a tourist visa for any of these women? It didn’t seem so even for the nurses working or getting molested in the Middle East.

Pretty much no. At least for USA. Or I would have brought one over already, haha. Unless she has money, a good job there in Phil, and can prove she has a good reason to return.

Yes, it's possible. I got a tourist visa for a Filipina to London and also to another country. She had no job, owned no property and I just sponsored her. Took legal advice from a top law firm in London. Their advice was to tell the truth and never lie. Of course with the USA could be different.

It's true Filipinas love the US, the influence is huge. Maybe that's changing a bit. You see many Filipinas now targeting Koreans, not Americans.

Not what the US Military might have done 60 years ago. The US Military leaving in 1991 has probably been worse for the Philippines than them being there was.

The brightest and best don't go overseas, on the whole. The OFWs are made up to 80 percent of production and service workers, ie blue collar workers with little education. Just like with the US which was made up of those who could not feed themselves in Europe, criminals and religious fanatics, the very best of the Philipipnes do not leave. Doctors don't leave on the whole. Lawyers don't. If you come from a good family and have money what incentive would you have to leave? Very little.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overseas_Filipinos

However, if you consider that the Philippines only became independent in 1946, that's basically an eye-blink. You're talking about the US in 1840. To build proper institutions takes time. The USA promised to leave the Philippines much earlier, but they did not keep their promise because they wanted to continue to exploit the country.

Now the Philippines is on the right track, and whilst it will take time they will be just as prosperous as most western countries are today and their education system will be greatly improved, as will their infrastructure. Things are getting better and better in the philippines.

I don't want to get into too much of a pissing match with you since I am not an expert on the history of the Philippines, but I am very familiar with OFW's and the ridiculous "requirements" they need to get overseas work.

Maybe the bulk of them are in fact hired for service work. The requirements to get an entry level job are ridiculous, and I would wager that the majority of the OFW's that have service jobs have degrees in other fields where they either can't find work, or that being a waiter on a cruise ship actually pays them a whole lot more than they can earn at home.

I've been to the clinic at Greenbelt as a walk in patient. My doctor's fee for my consultation was 450 php. That's not even $9.

I know there are very rich and powerful Filipino families, and that there are high earning individuals as well, but I've met Engineers in Japan, more Doctors and Nurses abroad than I can remember or possibly count.

I really hope that things do improve in the Philippines, but even a layman can see that the country is the way it is because the people with all the money and power want it that way.

I definitely don't want to get too political or anything, but I will say this. Every single OFW I've ever met LOVES Duterte and his anti corruption platform.

Marcos stealing all your money and imposing Martial Law wasn't the USA's fault.

^If you come from a good family and have money what incentive would you have to leave?

—More earning power. Even a lawyer in Ph makes like $50k/year.
—Way less bullshit. If you want a comfortable life here you have to pay up the ass with guys trying to scam you all the way. This applies to OFWs and rich locals just as much as it does to foreigners.
—Safer government
—Faster Internet
—Non infuriating phone infrastructure such as in Ph you cannot call a landline with a cell phone
—Actually able to get phone service consistently
—Better food
—Better healthcare
—Better education for kids
—Better traffic
—Cheaper housing (outside of NYC or something) with far superior construction
—Easier access to online shopping
—Faster shipping
—Shipping that will deliver to your door instead of at some post office 10 miles away through hellish traffic
—Service workers who actually work
—Stores that offer 10x the variety of goods
—Cheaper quality food (western quality, in the store near my house in Ph they sell green peppers individually wrapped and imported from US for nearly $5 each, do Filipinos pay this)
—Not having to pay insane tariffs on anything nice from laptops to cars. Brand new Porsche Cayman in the US is what, 55k. Here looking at up to $200,000 and you can’t even be sure if it’s actually new or secretly refurbished

Lemme know if I missed anything

I hear what you're saying though the salaries are low for qualified degree level work, that's of course true.

(10-20-2018 01:18 PM)SeaFM Wrote:  Marcos stealing all your money and imposing Martial Law wasn't the USA's fault.

In 1919 the US promised to give the Philippines independence as soon as a stable government was established, hence the famous Jones Law. However, the Americans did not honour their promise and instead spent the next 27 years sabotaging the establishment of an independent democracy in the Philippines. The decades long sabotaging of the Philippines' desire to establish their own government by the Americans meant that this only came to pass in 1946. So by the time Marcos came along in 1965 the Philippines did not have more than 19 years of democracy. Bear in mind that the US also waged a war on the Philippines where hundreds of thousands of civilians died and exploited the country economically for many decades.

It seems clear that the Americans' influence in the Philippines meant that a proper national government could only be established in 1946, the institutions required for democracy did not have enough time to develop and that is what you need to avoid military government, proper institutions. Even to this day the Philippines has not yet developed these institutions fully, as evidenced by Duterte's removal of the most senior Supreme Court judge for instance, for political reasons.

So yes, I think the USA are to blame for much of the chaos we saw and still see in the Philippines, but of course there seems to be a natural affinity for lies and lack of work in the country, that's undeniable too. It's a bit of both.

You can't really transfer as a lawyer if you qualified in the Philippines. You'd have studied the laws of the Philippines. You can't just set up as a lawyer in the US. You'd have to undergo onerous re-training yet again, pass exams yet again. Plus of course even if you had the time, energy and resources to do that you would still have to pay New York rents, and the increase in living costs would largely negate any pay rise. Much easier to stay in Philippines where 50,000 lets you live very well.

The food in Philippines is perfectly fine. I know it's not as good as Thailand or Indonesia or Singapore, but you can eat very well there. And most Filipinos would be used to exactly that kind of food anyway. Nobody would leave because of food.

Even in the depths of Mindanao you can now get shopping delivered, and I doubt anyone would emigrate because of next day Amazon delivery.

The number one reason why people leave a country for another is economic duress, ie those too poor to feed themselves hope to make a better life abroad. Those are the kinds of people who make up the bulk of OFWs. Poverty is the real reason for leaving to another country. It's the poor that do it mostly, rarely the wealthiest and most educated because they already have a good life in their home base.

You're forgetting the nurses/caretakers. There's an army of them, and the challenges faced by someone born in the Philippines to be hired as a nurse in a 1st world country are considerable. These are very hard working, conscientious individuals, overall.

If you're a nurse in the Phils, you don't make much, it's a massive jump in salary if you can pass all the requirements to be hired abroad. Then you're far away from home, in a culture where that's not easy on people. It's hard.

I didn't forget nurses actually. You're right that nurses are a special case. They are highly trained. However, only about 8000 leave the phil every year, compared to the number of seafarers or service workers that's a much smaller number. As you would expect for such a highly trained job which takes a lot of studying. They are very well trained in Phil. They do have an incentive to leave, indeed they can make better pay abroad and they do leave. But it just proves the point, they are generally not from well off backgrounds.

It's hard for all of these OFWs btw. Especially those in the Middle East where the very vast majority go, more than to East Asia even.

For a white guy looking to bang, it's worth it, yeah. Even though the Philippines has declined, I can't imagine a better country for that. But for some local dude who has a wife, kids... even if he was a lawyer, I think he'd probably consider going to the west, if given the chance. This place has tons of problems, that's the point I was trying to make. There are days when even I think about just packing up and taking off.

It's just an observation from seeing some of my approaches on facebook having korean names, some of the friends of my girls having korean bfs. They're really ruining it btw, I heard from one of my girls that this Korean doctor was giving her friend an allowance of 150,000 pesos, her instagram is full of designer bags and jewellery. Not good.

^ If you want to see a lot of 8's causally walking around, central/eastern europe is pretty much the only place on the planet. And I'm pretty sure I'm going to be attacked for this statement as well, saying that my idea of an 8 is actually a 6 for the manly men of RVF. In other words, "a lot of 8's" isn't realistic in most places.

I run my aircon practically 24/7, have an air purifier running 24/7, a busy washing machine, and every other appliance you could think of, and my last bill was under 5K.

I did buy as many things as possible with inverter motors, so maybe that really does make a difference.

Ah, I think the ACs in this new house are all non-invert type, it def makes a difference as I wasn’t paying as much in the last place. My PC is probably a huge factor, it’s doing some pretty intense work through much of the day. And actually my last bill was $250ish after swapping all the light bulbs to LEDs, dunno if you’ve done that but you can get them at Ace for like 2$ or something

I read the OP and skimmed the rest of the thread. As a man who moved and works abroad and has a family with a Vietnamese woman, I can confidently say that social circle game is your best friend if you want to meet a woman of value. Make all the connections you can everywhere because circumstances and opportunities leap at you.

You couldn't drag me to the Philippines with a rope and horse. I've heard too many horror stories about Filipinas burning foreigners. We had had an American teacher whose wife back-stabbed him and took their kid. He planned on going back to the Philippines from Vietnam to take his kid back to America. Good luck with that. He didn't last there or here long, and he left a desperate fool.

Never been to the Philippines, but I have to say that the Westernized Filipino women I met lately in London were absolute cunts, especially the ones that grew up in the States.

But despite all your plusses for the USA, the Philippines is a much more 'fun' place to live.
And the women will actually have frequent sex with their husbands.
There's a lot to be said for living in a country where your wife will bang you instead of divorce raping you.

RE: The truth about the Philippines

That happens in any country where you allow your woman to take control.
I enjoy, Vietnam, the Philippines and Thailand, in all those places the women are cheap, available and easy to bed and the weather is warm and sunny.

I love living in Asia.
