A friend was telling me about a recent restaurant experience (bear with me). He and co-worker walked to a strip-mall to try one of two new restaurants there.
The first place they walked into was an ethnic Asian place that they wanted to eat at. So they picked up a menu. The place was empty. The menu, however, looked good. But then the chef barked: "No ordering off the menu today! You'll get what i'm making!". So they walked out and ate at the other place.

Moral of the story: Don't shit all over your customers, or you soon won't have any.

Relevance to Disney-fied Star Wars: Strong.

"Pansexual Lando as a PR stunt? ... I've got a bad feeling about this"

Saw Solo last night.

Wow, the fans must have been absolutely burned by the Last Jedi, which I admit that I have not seen, for them to turn on Solo like this.

I know that I'm going to be torn to pieces for saying this here, but I actually enjoyed it. It's a decent but not great movie. Rogue One was significantly better. However, not every star wars film can be The Empire Strikes Back.

The SJW-feminazi droid was actually done decently and justified in the script. The "pansexual" Lando thing looks like it was a move by Disney to get free publicity. In the movie, Lando is still clearly the ladies man that we all remember fondly from Empire and RotJ.

In Solo, Lando is generally annoyed if not out right disgusted by the droid and largely puts up with her because she has the galaxy's best navigational database*. She's essentially his miserable fat chick barely friend/co worker.

She also gets killed half way through the film and part of her gets uploaded into the Falcon. I couldn't tell if that was supposed to be a partial justification for the Falcon's lack of reliability and Solo having to constantly hit the control panels to work in the the original trilogy.

Despite my surprise at liking the movie, I'm still troubled by Disney PR pulling the "Pansexual Lando" stunt. With all of the Disney Star Wars problems, it does not bode well.

* My friend had a great line "So the feminazi droid is the navigator? Oh common, I can suspend disbelief with light sabers, laser blasters, and faster-than-light travel, but a woman with a sense of direction!?! That's just too much!"

"Can someone toss me the hard-drive or just the head of the droid? I need the navigational software." Also another point - if he can upload her to the ship, then he can download her to a new body. So that does not even make sense!

I didn't say that the droid did not have sexual inuendo. I simply said the Lando did not have mutual feelings. The reaction of the human female lead to the droid stating that Lando had feelings for her makes it clear the droid has hamstered itself into delusions that she is the one doing the rejecting.

As for his emotional response to the Droid's death, if I had a miserable fat chick co worker who might have made her unwanted interest in me known, sometimes inappropriately, who was brutally murdered in front of me, I would still attempt to save her life and mourn for her. It doesn't mean that I ever wanted to have sex with her.

As for not saving the technical stuff being unrealistic, it's STAR WARS, not the Jason Bourne films.

That's the problem with "shipping" in fandom. It's not possible for characters to express any positive emotions towards other characters without it being deemed sexual interest. Same reason why #MeToo overreach happens.

The RoTS novel really is good. Read it a few years ago and was really impressed by how well-written it was and how it made the story and characters genuinely compelling. One of the top Star Wars novels for sure.

Exactly. The reason why Han and Lando are the two most beloved human characters of the original trilogy is because they are perfectly done examples of the Loveable Outlaw Scoundrel with a Secret Heart of Gold. About their only difference is Han is more hotheaded and better at hands on combat and leadership, while Lando is more of a smooth operating upper management type.

The droid is there to be a new take on the very old character of "hell hath no furry like a woman scorned".

Imagine if Lando had reacted to the droid's death by smiling and nudging Han while saying "Man, this battle is rough but at least we got rid of that old battle ax, you know what I mean, buddy!?!", with both of them having a good chuckle afterwards while they rip her hard drive out. It would completely destroy his character. He would become just an Outlaw Scoundrel who is a heartless jerk.

The more I think of this, I think that in addition to free publicity that SJW-Disney wanted to make the audience see something that was not there. Partly to ratchet up the cultural-marxist narrative so that they really could put it there in the future, but also to get the right to over react Buchannan-Coulter style. They've been doing this forever.

Except this time it did not work. It has blown up in SJW-Disney's face in spectacular fashion. Losing over 2% on their stock price while convincing the world that one of its most valuable franchises is falling apart is an absolutely brutal consequence for them.

See, that's the thing: They've just rubbed too much shit in their core fans faces for a "pretty good" movie to be enough. The Mary Sue character in TLJ. All the c*nts with "The Force Is Female!" t-shirts. The "free publicity" of pan-sexual Lando. the feminist droid. And the scenes in TLJ where they pan out to the crew while Admiral HR C*nt is """leading""", and all you see are women. The message is very clear: Women are in charge, men are disposable and maybe we'll find a way to create sperm from stem cells....and then we really won't need you.

At this point, the only thing that will reverse what is likely a perma-boycott of the original Star Wars [read: male] audience is if they fire Kathleen Kennedy and replace her and the new, faggy directors with a traditionalist who can get back to Lucas' vision. Came here to comment about how Westworld is a feminist shit show of a series (friends were telling me how suspenseful and great it is...whatever) and found useful reviews on that Solo shit show. Sounds worse than I'd anticipated; barely worth a free airplane movie.

Westworld, meanwhile, is like Game of Thrones in cowboy boots. Gratuitous nudity, worthless and/or evil male characters, woefully unrealistic, virtuous yet cunty and annoying female "leads" and nothing much else to keep me glued beyond Ed Harris's character, which at this point I'm expecting to get killed off at any moment. If I can stomach the rest of the episodes I'll binge watch and cancel my free HBO Now subscription before I wind up paying to support this shit.

The depressing part is how many young guys seem to be into this genre. There's an entire generation of young men who grew up never knowing what a male lead should be, and they are a disjointed and confused lot. Part of them actually buys into the current model, yet they realize - even if subconsciously - that something just isn't right. They can't get women who look like the leads they see in this show, the more fortunate of them settle for atrocious and overweight substitutes in real life, if they're lucky. Most of the rest instead they play video games and suck down IPA when they aren't jacking off to internet porn and dreaming of their own sex robot.

HBO is hands down worse than Disney when it comes to obvious social manipulation - Westworld is just another example. Creator Michael Crichton is probably rolling in his grave right about now.

I saw deadpool and solo with my (now ex) GF.

Deadpool was absolute trash. Couldn't stand it. I didn't laugh a single time the whole movie. What a piece of shit. I can't believe people find that kind of thing funny.

The best part of the whole experience was when I was walking into the theatre right when the lights go dark and there's a bit of silence as the movie starts with my (ex) GF. I said "go ahead, I have to fart" and i timed it so just as she was peaking her head out into the theatre where people already sat in their seats could see her head and part of her torsoe emerge a let a GIANT flatulent deep-bassy fart and everyone thought it was her. She stood still, panicked, started laughing and ran back to me and I couldn't help but bust the fuck up and she eventually starting crying from laughter. The movie paled in comparison to my fart, that's my review.

Solo was actually alright I didnt see a whole lot of overt SJW themes but there was certainly some undertones. The dumb feminist robot got on my nerves but I thought she was suppose to be a pad SJW caricature of how annoying blue haired feminists with no actual insight or worldview actually act. But who knows, maybe people didn't take it as satire, i certainly did. It had some moments, but I was pretty bored the whole time.

The girl paid for it all so I didnt waste a dime on that tripe.

HBO has become increasingly worse over the years. Game of Thrones used to be a patriarchal show, but they elevated the women and turned it ever more feminazi. The Walking Dead became a transgender pro-Islam feminist utopia and Westworld especially in the second season turned up the feminazi-meter to 100%.

At this point they all scatting in the face of heterosexual men and telling you to pay up.

I noticed that too. In the second series, it's turbo-cunt all the time. The moment there's a loose weapon anywhere, some uppity broad grabs it while the guy turns completely into jelly. Of course they shoot beyond expertly, taking out legions of "special ops" security people while taking command of every scene, wherever and whenever.

Realistically programmed 19th century robot prairie women would have a significant amount of deference to men built into them, robot and human alike. At least they would before the code in their heads goes haywire (side note - the code went haywire right around the time the Westworld theme park hits 30 years of age - coincidence?)

Michael Crichton came up with the storyline for a movie, not a long running TV series. It's no wonder they ran out of ideas pretty quickly. Small wonder the continuation was a series of disjointed and socially loaded episodes fit for a soylent-grinning male feminist audience.

Not in the Star Wars universe. All of it comes from Joseph Campbell's "The Hero of a Thousand Faces". It is a simpler and more restrictive place as a result. John Wick, Neo, Ted, Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, Bruce Wayne, Peter Parker, John McClane, Captain America, Marvel Thor, and many others are not welcome there. Indiana Jones and the Lord of the Rings guys would be.

As mentioned before, due to a 'cinema rewards' program, I can see Soylo at no cost to myself.
Yet the first two weeks have had a 'no free ticktets' stipulation by Disney for the main cinema chains here in Aus.

So I've been keeping a close eye as to when the 'no free tickets' bit ceases.
That would appear to be next week.

However.
What I've also noticed, is that the local & large cinema stopped airing 3D sessions for Soylo by the 2nd week.
Plus, not only are the 'hi-def' / 'ultra ear shattering sound' specialty sessions stopping this week.
By next week, there's only four sessions for Soylo per day...
Whereas there was around 10 to 12 sessions at opening.

Which would be all well & good for any other film, even another blockbuster.
Yet this is a 'Starwars' film in question.
The brand is that tainted, cinemas can't even justify the specialty sessions after the 2nd week...

Although it is with extra amusement that I note this local cinema is using their 'hi-def' / 'ultra ear shattering sound' specialty sessions for Ocean's 8 instead...

Cause we really need to see the wrinkles of those aging actresses in hi-def...?

It's hilarious how the media is defending the reason for Solo's flop.

1. Too many Star Wars movies (despite Infinity War and Deadpool coming back to back)
2. Memorial weekend was bad (despite claiming before that this would make a killing since it's memorial weekend)
3. Too many white male leads - people don't wanna see them anymore

etc.

They will cite anything except for the truth - feminism and social justice propaganda ruining the story and the brand.
