I would say it's rather bad - girls don't care about money, they care about things that can be bought with money. Talking about btc if you don't look like someone who has cash to spend won't get you nowhere.
And about smarts: they usually don't care about it also, and everything technical is shit topic to talk with girls. For example, I am a PhD student in STEM field. I can tell that to a girl and probably get a "woooow, you must be so smart", but heaven forbid me trying to explain something about my research - instant rapport breaker.
Of course there can be exceptions to this rules, but they are exceptions and you should know them when you see them.

Really basic stuff to get and keep them talking.

Interesting post, Hank. I made my own way and own a fly fishing guide service. I would wager to say that this sport is the biggest sausage fest around. I've managed to get some girls out with me fishing, but doubtful that they wanted to do it other than to spend time with me. Like you said though, this kind of hobby is not a turn off for girls. If I was a neckbeard playing x box every day, my life would probably look a little different.

I am also a member of a fly fishing club, we have one girl that comes to meetings. She's maybe a 6, and she works all the old dudes over for a free drift boat trip down the river. Fly fishing is a tough one because unless someone really gets it, they don't see the art to it.

My dad and his wife (quite good looking for her age 60) fish all the time, before she met my dad she never camped or did anything but now she loves camping and fishing (both fly and spin fishing).

Fly fishing (fishing in general) can be really boring if nothing is biting especially if they are new. It's a very intricate thing and most girls don't have the patience for it.

Now on a similar note, I bet fly tying would be really attractive to a girl. The amount of precision, focus and creativity that it requires. I could see it being a turn on but not as something you talk about on a first date.

My dream is to convert an attractive girl into becoming a fan of the sport. The nice thing about the trout fishing in my area is that the fish are always biting. I've never had a slow day. The river I guide on is ranked as the 4th best brown trout river in the world.

Fly fishing is an awesome hobby. My best friend growing up owns a fly fishing business. If you love doing it, by all means...

I take girls fishing or crabbing sometimes; even better when you're on a boat. Some of them love it, some of them don't realize how "gross" it can be. (i.e. the bait, pulling the hook out of the fish's mouth, etc.)

Fishing is definitely a masculine hobby. I've found that even if a woman doesn't like to fish with me, she thinks it's sexy that I know how to catch and fillet them.

Sometimes I'll go on a fishing expedition with my male friends, and when I get home, I'll make a big night of cooking for everyone.

Women respect men who do masculine things either by themselves or with a group of other males.

Funnily enough the singer Rod Stewart's hobby is model trains and has been since he was a kid.

I case you don't know he's a singer who's height of fame was during the 60's and he is famous for dating and marrying younger women.

Rod Stewart could have 100% nerdy hobbies and pastimes and he would get laid easily enough.

Model trains is a fun hobby appealing mostly to men. I would not even call it even low-testosterone like watching Brazilian soap operas (you should reconsider if that is your hobby honestly). But Hank's statement is just stating the truth that it lowers your value as a man. If your value is high enough of course, then it won't matter much.

I'm by no means an authority, but in my recent dating experience, I realised it does pay to hold a somewhat masculine frame.

By that I mean, at the very least, keep it positive. Don't complain about your life at all, because I think that can seriously lead to a chick thinking you're a loser. In my experience, I met this girl recently, and I must have been complaining without evening realising. Maybe sharing my challenges more than anything, but in her eyes I came across as negative and ultimately not confident enough.

It was pretty much a watershed moment for me. Beforehand I had just gone on dates, some worked, some didn't. Although I never had a strategy for how to present myself. I always bought into that 'be open' vibe. I realised this particular girl probably saw herself as having a high SMV, and her mind, I wasn't portraying the lifestyle or the attitude she wanted. And you know what, I can't argue with that.

Anyway, since than, I realised I need to make some modifications on my most recent date. At the very least, holding a positive frame. I talk up my career a bit without going over the top, try and display some enthusiasm, and likewise, talk up my sports and hobbies a bit and keep it positive. As soon as you start sharing your difficulties in a sort of stream of consciousness style, see it as over. I learnt that the hard way, and to be honest, I'm grateful as that's often the best way to learn. I guess this stuff is in theory quite self explanatory, but not always easy to put into action on a date, unless you have a wake-up call, like I did.

It's also things like, instead of telling her I still live at home with my brother, I tell her I live with my brother, and I don't tell her that I really want to move out of home. I just tell her that I'm planning to move to a different part of the city in a couple of months. So I'm just changing the angle a little bit, so what I say doesn't come across as insecure, but more grounded and confident in myself.

I had this mini Epiphany, that this whole time, I was going around using this sort of language where I was seeking validation for my lifestyle. The way I described things, was like I was never completely owning what I was doing, but instead would be seeking their validation without even fully realising it. Stuff like saying, I am doing this, but I'm not sure, or I like that, but I'm not sure about that. It sounds crazy but it had become this habit of speaking that displayed low self confidence and a yearning to be validated by that other person.

Instead, the new language I want to use is showing a self confidence in the way I live my life. I do this, I do that. I like that, I don't like that. Without the insecure tag of, but I'm not totally sure etc, and without the habit of feeling I have to verbally justify myself after making any kind of statement, like adding, 'but I'll see how it goes', or 'I'm only doing it because of X' or 'I'm not sure if I'll continue'. That sort of thing.

Now I'm trying to say, 'I've started X, its awesome. I really enjoy x part, this part was also really fun'. Immediately the statement becomes more enjoyable. You can relate to the excitement of the hobby, and appreciate the sense of fun that person is having. The listener is then going to be bouncing of that statement, instead of being on a downer listening to your insecure statement about 'I started X, it's fun, but I'm not sure about it, because of X.' Totally different ballgame!

I'm not totally there yet, and I'll always be learning. But it seems I learnt a good lesson in recent weeks.

Thinking about it all, the obvious thing is that the more fun and positive your actual life is, the more that will come across. But in the meantime, you need to change your perspective about your own life to a more fun and positive one to give the right vibe, even if your hobbies and lifestyle is unchanged, you have to change up your story about yourself to a much more positive, confident one.

Here's my take on hobbies, do stuff that you enjoy doing and are passionate about. So many people just kind of aimlessly drift through life, don't really have any hobbies or interests, just kind of go through the motions.

Honestly it doesn't matter if you like to play Dungeons and Dragons or if your into BJJ, if you have an interest in something and are passionate about it people will respect it, women and men.

I see way too much of this stuff going on where people get into hobbies because they want to be associated with the image behind it. I see so many people buy motorcycles and then carry their fucking helmet around everywhere with them because they want everyone to see that they ride a motorcycle. I see so many motorcycles with like 200 miles on them selling at a 40% loss because of the people who have done this.

What's the point in spending money, time and effort on a hobby you don't enjoy just so you can say on your OKCupid profile that you ride a bike or practice BJJ or whatever else.

If you try to like hobbies you don't like you'll attract people who actually do like those hobbies and you'll spend all your time doing something you fucking hate. If you don't like hiking and the outdoors and act like you do, guess what, your going to attract women who like hiking and the outdoors and your goign to be spending your evenigns and weekends camping and hiking, something you don't even like to do.

The main thing is have some interest or some passion, really doesn't matter what the fuck the activity is but be passionate about something and get good at something. People are naturally attracted to people who have something going on.

I remember some years back I met a girl off either Craigslist or Okcupid or POF don't recall which one but really hot chick, really cool girl. Turns out she was like a ranked chess master one of the best chess players in the country and she had her own business teaching chess to elementary school kids where schools would pay her to come in and teach chess to the students as some kind of lesson plan kinda deal. I don't think most people typically think of chess as a "cool" hobby, nor do most people probably expect a hot chick to be a chess master but she was. We wound up smoking a few bowls and playing a couple games of chess before hooking up. I guess my point is you never know what other people are going to be into so just do you and do what you enjoy doing. Even if a chick isn't super into said activity she will probably respect and admire that you have your own life and your own thigns going on

One last comment that's a bit off topic, in terms of crypto quit fucking talking about crypto on dates. Most women could give two shits about it and those who do are going to be wondering how much money you have in your bank account and what you can do for them. Don't get me wrong I love Bitcoin and Crypto as well and am very involved and passionate about the space, but I don't talk about my Vanguard index funds on a date so carrying on with that I don't fucking ramble about Bitcoin and the current state of Segwit adoption either.

Combat sports suck when you are doing basics amd getting your ass kicked but that's 80% of the gig. Drilling and getting your ass kicked by those better than you.

Surfing isn't fun when you just get pounded by mother nature,stung by jelly fish,are sketched out about the sharks at that one rocky spot,and catch 0 waves.

Gymnastics isnt enjoyable when you are just doing basic moves to strengthen a specific tendon or teach the body strength in a specific position. You keep going because of the rewards long term.

I've never played chess or poker but im sure its not fun losing but you keep going and get better anyways.

I disagree with recognizing video games and that type of stuff as valid hobbies. Sure its enjoyable but you dont get any skills or ability out of it long term. I used to play video games a lot but long term you dont get anything out of them. They aren't rewarding long term.

You bring up an interesting point. It's easier to meander through life or sit in front of the TV than it is to get out there and experiment with hobbies and trying new things so to some extent I think we do have to get outside of our comfort zones and push ourselves to do things we may not initially like.
