I was actually bullied in school, the old fashioned way in the 70s. When I was 14 and 15, I grew a foot, but some guys still were used to bullying me. The coach in gym class was an old WWII pilot, who used to tell us about shooting down japs. He was 55, and had a huge pot belly, but he could still do a one handed push up, and could take a running start and do a hand spring. He could also play badmitten 1 on 2 with any of the best two players in high school, and win every single time.

Anyway, he saw me getting beat on many times in my freshman year, and never said a thing. However, when a guy jumped me, and I threw him over my shoulder and kneed him hard in the face as he got up, he never said a thing. When a guy threw a chokehold on me in the locker room, and I held my padlock like brassknuckles and punched him in the face, nothing was said. Pretty soon I stopped having problems.

At some point, he would stop fights if need be, but he'd let things play out whenever possible. Times have certainly changed.

This may come as a surprise for you, but I agree with you 100%. However, I have a question: you put the term <I’m being bullied> between quotation marks, but did you actually intend to quote anybody? If so, may I ask who were you quoting? I looked it up within the thread and those three words together only appear in your post and two subsequent ones, by Rhyme or Reason and by LeeEnfield303, who cite your post. In particular, assuming you are not into fake reality, surely you were not citing me. But your post did cause others to spew quite nasty comments, and an invitation to turn one's man card in is not exactly what I call flattering either. Hence my question.

For the record, here is the exact quote from my post: “Frankly, it came across as bullying and I hate bullies (of any age).” It did not say I was bullied; instead, it explained why I reacted to it the way I did. Referring to the subsequent post by Rhyme or Reason, I picked a fight. One reason I say I may have been stupid is that “ceas[ing] to be around said person / situation” would have been wiser. But to be called “a fucking bitch who refuses to take responsibility for their own circumstances” is very insulting and I wonder if Rhyme or Reason would say that if you would not misquote me.

1. We've got enough (possibly autism-based) drama shitting up threads right now. Even if you were right, nobody cares. People come on here to learn and be entertained, not be lectured to about who is right.

2. I say this as a low-rep member, but nobody cares about your defense because nobody cares about you yet. Understand this and move on.

3. Understand that a blow to your ego is not a reason to keep on arguing when the thread is too far gone. Everyone has moved on.

4. It's not an academic forum and certainly not an academic thread, so don't take it so seriously. Literally this whole thread is a troll job and nothing more.

Partly true. And I joined those who like your post to indicate that I don't count it as insulting in any way shape or form.

In detail. I am 71. I plan to retire in Asia, but only when my wife also reaches retirement age. In recent years, I have only been in Asia a total of two months (Philippines and Vietnam). So I am here to learn from others about SEA. But I also earned the cap that my avatar is wearing, almost 50 years ago: I reached the rank of Second Engineer in the merchant marine. In those days, it was one of the best ways to see the world. Flights were not cheap at all back then. Among other places, I spent time in various Asian ports, including a month in Japan while my ship was overhauled. Last but not least, during my cadetship, I also experienced much more physical bullying (by a guy who had 7" and 100lbs on me: he was 6'4 and 240), and if I would handle it the way people here assert I handle bullying I would certainly not survive long enough to reach the rank I reached. In short, I may be a newbie HERE but I am not a newbie in real life.
