Hey Everyone. So im a 19 years old guy from the middle east, never travelled outside egypt. The thread concerns a decision im afraid to take, Travelling.
Ive been willing to travel to prague/Czesh this summer.. but here is the thing , Spending money for travelling will make me pay about 3/4 of all the money ive got , so basically i will be left with really small cash in my hands, not planning for anything to do with the cash tho.. im scared to not take the travel decision and then miss out on life ? , im willing to travel solo and experience everything including meeting people etc.. So should i wait another year ?, or should i go for it anyway Even so i will be lett with close to no cash at all. Is it worth spending 3/4 money of all i got ? Even tho i dont have any willing to spend my money at anything at this moment ? should i wait tell i start working which will be at 24/25 yo then start travelling so i have more cash to back me up ? what do you guys think ? Should i go for it . Ps:Im so afraid to miss on life and say ' next year' next year comes and i do nothing , Also taking the decision will put me in an argument with my father for spending all this money since that is basicallly all i have got. (sorry for the repitition)

At 19 the information is worth more than the money, so it's wiser to do it.

Also I don't know why you'll only start working at 24/25, but view with great suspicion whoever or whatever is making that the case. Rockefeller was working in his teens.

I presume student, maybe.

Not that that would totally prevent one from working though.

Financially speaking, yes, it's a bad idea. Spending 3/4 of your money on anything is a bad idea, in logical terms. Especially when you have no income. That money may be better saved for something you might need, then spent on something you want.

Does that mean you shouldn't do it? Fuck no. Nobody here knows what's best for you except you. The travel bug hit me when I was 21 or so, just a couple years older than you. I spent a lot of money on it, so I am speaking from experience. Remember that you're still extremely young, and it might be worthwhile to establish yourself a bit financially to the point that you can do some travelling without incurring too much debt.

You are 19, and considering spending 75% of your total savings to visit Prague?

Don't waste your money.

Please stay in Egypt, bang a few chicks there, and wait at least 3 more years before considering any travel.

Are you in a school that offers studying abroad? Or is there some kind of working holiday system between Egypt and other countries? Even just waiting tables at a Mediterranean restaurant in Europe would be better than going there to just blow money.

Too little income if i worked beside uni (hard work and long time ) Will probably affect my grades in uni but still an option. @Phoenix

Travel to sharm el sheikh after Eid and save the rest. Cheaper resorts will be full of talent

Ive already planned to do that , since i didnt yet discovered all sights in my country , haha. I think i will have a long run.

I would say it's not close that you would be better off investing in yourself and your hobbies and wait until after college. I think travelling is overrated as a personal growth investment unless you can do it relatively cheaply for an extended period. Travel is over glamorized on social media because it grabs attention. While you're in college try developing an internet source of income (could even be teaching your local language via skype). Even if you don't make much you will learn a lot.

I've lived the nomadic lifestyle for 10 years (South/Central America 5 years and Europe 5 years). You will be a much more interesting person and conversationalist by your mid 20s and far more likely to be successful with foreign women and at making long term friendships. All of my fastest and strongest connections have sprung from hobbies or interests that I shared in common with locals (photography, music, tennis, languages)

Experiences are sometimes more valuable than material possessions but only to an extent and not if those experiences nearly bankrupt you. If you sent me back to 19 again I'd do it the same and invest in my hobbies first. One of my hobbies from college eventually gave me financial security by 22 and I was already traveling the world by 23.

Cliff notes:
Your dad isn't just being an old conservative fart. Invest in yourself and curiosities in real ways and each dollar will go way farther than investing in the expensive jet fuel that will vaporize along with your bankroll. The older and more experienced you are the more you will get from each dollar spent on traveling, so don't feel like you're missing that much value as a teenager.

I for one am 100% for travel. But not in your case.

I don't advise going to nearly broke travelling. That's just stressful. If you had a 6 month buffer or something and some plan to get money rolling in then I'd agree with it but that doesn't appear to be the case.

This is entirely different from someone who has a buffer of say $10,000 and is comfortable living on $1,000 / month with the intention of starting a business.

Going and just spending your I'd assume small savings probably won't be the best idea.
