RE: Avocados Part II: Gen X millionaire tells Gen Y to get a job
That quote you highlighted shows really how delusional he is about the current job market.

The college degree began to be worthless in the USA around 2000-2005. I graduated college right after that. I majored in Communication. (Stupid and I don't blame anyone but myself). So when I went looking in the workforce for a professional job in the industry, I was unable to find anything. Even though, I had plenty of people at my university tell me there were tons of jobs available for Com grads. The universities are really selling a pile of garbage to most people. I refuse to give a cent back. I ended up working two $12 an hour jobs for 5 years, so fuck you Marcus.

Long story but anyways Im switching careers now, and its crazy. I can't believe how many mediocre jobs are asking for even a couple years experience. An college grad unemployed friend mine got rejected for a waiter job and he has experience.

Since there are so many grads now, a lot of corporations can now put "3 years experience needed" for even the most bogus of entry level position.

Here is the perfect example of the nonsense Im talking about.

https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Wellness-Cent...experience

Here is a company trying to hire a "junior" entry level position looking for 10 years experience. I see the shit all the time so I cant imagine they're getting 0 applicants.

I have a couple friends in rural areas who have it worse. They basically cant find anything over $12. Most eventually work for those salaries at Lowe's or Walmart distribution facilities or they move into the city.

There are far too many media grads like myself. A lot of friends of mine who graduated with the same degree also now worked in different industries. One spent a ton of money to go back to college and works in finance. Another is a manager at Wal-Mart. One manages a liquor store and another is in Pharma sales. The good news for many of my friends is a lot of top talent from universities get poached from Philly they were able at the time to switch careers, but I don't think thats no longer the case.

The wage doesn’t matter, according to the Lebanese-American investor and CEO, who says qualified young people should find any kind of work, even if it just pays $16 an hour. “It’s better than you sitting at home making zero dollars,” he added.

It should be noted that Marcus Lemonis is 43 years old unmarried and has no children.

He is living in his own little bubble where he thinks people are not working because they refuse to work for $16 dollars an hour. It is amazing how out of touch he is considering how many businesses he owns, people he employs, and customers he deals with. How can he not see the reality of the common person's life?

Consilio Services is currently staffing a Barred Anywhere document review project with substantial overtime in our Miramar office. This project will start on Wednesday May 7th and is expected to last 1 week (including weekend hours). The rate is $20 per hour and all overtime will be paid at time and a half.

Candidates must be Barred Anywhere and available for the duration of the project.

Consilio Services offers (free parking,) flexible work hours, health insurance and a 401k plan.

If you are interested and available, please send your resume (include where you are barred in the resume) to [email protected] and in the subject line write “OT Project” and a recruiter will be in touch regarding oral conflicts ASAP.
If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.
Thanks!

$20 for a fucking Lawyer(with a State Bar License) per hour, and I can assure you the staffing agency will have more attorney resumes than slots available. Please show me the $16 dollar per hour jobs for undergrads-Fuck Marcus.

Wow, $20/hour is rough. Those types of jobs in Chicago are at least $28-30 usually. Definitely not great, but $20? Jesus

Marcus, the man who started his career in the family business as his grandfather owned two huge car dealerships, tells people not to work for the family business. I guess it doesn't matter since the vast majority of young people don't have a "family business", so ok.

Another example of a sheltered jackass who inherited a family business, has no concept of the outside world or anyone else's experience nor any interest in investigating or learning anything, yet decides that he has all the answers and should be listened to. Seems like a lot of that going around

I have friends whose feet never had to touch ground, they came from well-off family, studied, lived at home in comfort, then via connections or good college instantly got a very good job.

This guy is even more deluded - he grew up 0,1% rich, started in politics, went back to his dad's field. Essentially his main accomplishment is being born rich (or adopted) and not fucking it all up by becoming a coke-head. He never had to apply for a low-tier job.

I even have friends who came from entrepreneur families and actually worked their way up. But even those examples are different, because those guys came from money and success, when they started out on their own at 21, then they simply knew that no matter what - their millionaire dad is a safety net that will catch them if they fuck up. He did not even bother studying, but just opened a business similar to his dad's - just better. Yes - he used his own money, that he borrowed, but I am sure that if it had failed, then dad would have bailed him out. With the more well-off families it is even easier.

So no - that guy has no idea how it is to apply for hundreds of jobs and be turned down for various bogus reasons.

Great--another shithead born on third base who swears he hit a triple. With plenty of "advice" to spare.

Let's hope we can find an empty lamppost from him when the revolution finally pops off.

He's Lebanese? That explains it.

The Lebanese are usually very keen business people and are resilient, but lack understanding of and empathy for other people's struggles. Typical.

The Lebanese are some of the most enterprising people I've ever met. Here in Ottawa they own basically every pizza/shawarma/sub/Mexican place in the city plus tons of the coffee shops and gas stations.

Carlos Slim, the Mexican telecom billionaire who owns the NY Times, is of Lebanese decent from both parents and Kevin O'Leary, one of our more famous billionaires is half-Lebanese

I don't know about lack of empathy but the ones I've known (a couple fellow students and one boss at a part-time job) were all hard workers so they definitely looked down on slackers

RE: Avocados Part II: Gen X millionaire tells Gen Y to get a job
I recently became aware of just how much the labor laws have changed since the 90s, when I was a teenager. There is a local comic book / gaming store where many teens gather after school to hang out, do homework, goof off. They gave some of the teens jobs and later were in the news for violating labor laws.

The violations he was fined for:
- An employee under the age of 18 loaded a trash compactor.
- High school employees worked more than 3 hours on a weeknight.
- High school employees worked later than 7 PM during the school year.

The laws should be enforced, of course, and so I don't see the employer as a victim. I was completely unaware of these laws though, and it suddenly makes sense now why so few teenagers hold any kind of job. The local comic shop changed their policy and no longer hires teenagers which seems reasonable in light of these restrictions.

Occasionally I get a young person show up on my doorstep looking for work (yardwork or whatever). I always hire them just because I think kids should be encouraged to work. Apparently it is now all but impossible for them to get a formal job. It boggles my mind that things have changed so fast, my generation was not exactly famed for our work ethic either but at least we had options for work if we wanted it.

To me, this should be a fundamental of red pill culture, as much as any other aspect.
We're constantly fed a confidence trick.

I know of a similar guy to that Lebanese. He's always lecturing others about "entrepreneurial spirit" and "hard work" vs "laziness"/"wasters". But what he doesn't say is how being an excise fraudster, a customs informant and even heroin dealing allowed him to pay for his lavish homes, celebrity lifestyle and kids private school education. This guy is also a "devout Muslim" immigrant.

It also reminds me of another guy near me. Made HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS on a health field. Actually started off by ripping off the state..and getting away with it due to his family being powerful in politics.
The result of his frauds? The family get a 2nd fortune although the press always describe him (wrongly) as self made. The other result? His family in government massively cut back the state health budget in the area he was plundering.

Starting off from scratch can be very hard. Plenty of these entrepreneurs jawbone about "rugged determination" but the truth of their success story is far different.

If that Lebanese thinks youngsters deliberately live with their family and avoid jobs then he needs carting off to a mental asylum. Or preferably, back to the Lebanon.

I can confirm this, the Lebanese (mostly Maronite Catholics) have transformed my home city of Halifax for the better, they first arrived here over 100 years ago on ships and worked menial jobs and opened shops, more arrived during the civil war years in the 70/80s and now they are wealthy land developers : https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/nat...e15599792/

As far as well paying jobs for young guys in the US goes, there's tons of decent paying ($25-60/hour) trades jobs all over the country, just check out the job board here you'll see hundreds of recent job offers all over the country for qualified tradesmen: https://www.roadtechs.com/

Electrician: $46/hour plus $65/day per diem (Needham, Mass): https://www.roadtechs.com/const/wwwboard...nbr=455327

Plumber: $35/hour plus $100/day per diem (North Dakota): https://www.roadtechs.com/const/wwwboard...nbr=455339

HVAC: $56.65/hour plus $100/day per diem (Oregon): https://www.roadtechs.com/const/wwwboard...nbr=455607

There's three different random job samples from different areas of the country, these jobs require no university just trades training which I"m not sure how long it is in the US but usually a year (sometimes its all on the job, no school) then you begin as a first year apprentice, then within 3-4 years you can be a journeyman and make the above rates. Even at straight time 40 hours per week, these jobs are in the $70,000-100,000 range, with overtime at 1.5X or maybe even 2X, a guy can easily make $100,000-150,000 especially with the per diem.

Here's a random video of a commercial HVAC job I found, its a pretty typical gig, I'd much rather do that type of work than sit in an office cubicle around a bunch of women all day, especially if I was making $56.65 in Oregon!

I'm trying to enter the maritime industry because of the lifestyle and economic opportunity. There's some serious money to be made in the trades, especially if you eventually become an entrepreneur.

I tried the 8-5 office life, and hated it.

Well almost six months and two threads about avocados since I put this out there:

Many Middle Eastern cultures have this promotion of entrepreneurship. One Iraqi said that all of Iraq is a country of "businessmen". It is better to them to start 5 businesses, all fail, then to work for another man. In a way this can be positive - most go broke, but a few strike it big and that is what matters. But of course there is a balance necessary - not everyone can be an entrepreneur.

I read this article the other day, and I thought: "what terrible advice." If your parents are cool, you should live with them until you find the job you want. Its multitudes better in the long run if you find a job with a quality organization willing to invest in you than taking the first offer you get-otherwise you risk getting canned or qutting within 6 months and getting caught in a cycle of temporary low paying jobs.

I just read his background. I wonder how he became the CEO of an RV company a few years after he started working. Oh that's right, born on third base. Fuck this guy.

Australia has 3 things going for them which will likely keep on the lights and still appreciate prices:

1) Australia is set to become a de-facto Chinese province which is not as bad as it sounds. They will buy up property, purchase your 1.4 mio. $ 50m2 townhouse and they will throw you a bone or two.

If that growth rate is annual, we're doomed!

In five years there will be like 10 billion more Chinese; the whole world will be a Chinese province!
