A few days ago I went to my favorite Walmart. In order to draw attention away from the bag of charcoal and 1000pc box of silverware under my cart, I struck up a conversation with Lavinder, the friendly checker.

He told me he moved here from India about three years ago with his wife and three elementary aged kids. He lives in the shit part of the island, which means his kids go to the shit school. His English was absolutely perfect. His other job was at home depot. He said he liked america very very much. He said India was very very bad.

I just couldn't bring myself to ask him why he would go through all the trouble and cost of immigration just to be a checker, live in a shitty apartment, and force his kids to be the ones with the dad who's name is goofy.

Couldn't this guy have found some type of opportunity in India? With that voice he'd be the boss at the call center. But he wanted to leave because he thinks hell have better opportunities in Hawaii of all places?

I'm all for helping all people, but sometimes it just makes no sense.

Some people on this forum blame the Jews way too much, but in this particular case, Israeli interference has severely hurt Lebanon.

Here you go - I'm Lebanese. Granted I was drunk when I posted that, so it might have been a tad extreme, but there's definitely some truth to it from what I've observed, especially in the younger and more materialistic generations.

I fail to believe that there aren't jobs for people with degrees, even the lame degrees.

Only 25% of Americans have a Bachelor's degree or better. So if that's the case then 75% of Americans don't have a degree or schooling of any sort. So that means that there should be jobs available for those 25% who do have college degrees. A person who went to college has a better resume than the person without a degree working at at factory. How does that explain lack of jobs?

(1) Have a college degree doesn't mean that you are more qualified than someone who has a superior combination of non-college skills and experience.

(2) Yes, there may jobs available, but these jobs often do not pay enough to pay off the debt incurred from going to school in the first place.

(3) The jobs that are available are often an insult to anyone who has completed a college degree.

33 % of Americans have college degrees actually. And in metro areas you're looking at over 40% in some cities. If there were so many jobs available then why would do you see so many 22-26 year olds working in restaurants?

The oversupply of graduates is pushing people into Masters degree to get ahead, further burdening people with large debts. Its completely unsustainable. The end goal for liberals here is to make college free. So they will allow students to continue to become debt slaves.

Allow bankrupting for college loans would probably at least prevent students from going to school for frivolous degrees in the future.

He still enjoys a standard of living better than 80% of his countrymen. Also if he came from a rural area born into a lower caste, then the uphill battle is super-steep.

You have to understand where he is coming from.

While they have a rising MIddle Class there it is highly competitive there. It is easier to socio-economically upgrade by moving to the West.
