That one is good.

The Quran is only part of the Islamic teachings, because you need the Hadiths and the Sira as well in addition to the Quran to understand the context. The context is dependent on what Mohammed has done, his campaigns and other actions. Usually it gets worse with context.

Also the Quran is a pain in the ass to read from beginning to end, because the verses repeat themselves AND THEY ARE NOT IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER. Since the concept of abrogation exists, you would first have to read it from oldest to newest. Why? Because in Islam a newer verse annuls a previous verse. For example - in the beginning Mohammed said to be peaceful during Ramadan, in later times he said Ramadan is great for sneak attacks. So the old verse is annulled/abrogated and only the new verse is valid.

Thus Koran at a Glance is absolutely sufficient to get the entire gist. It is a short book anyway, because the repetitions are deleted and it is compiled in correct chronology.

In addition you should also read the Hadiths of the first Caliphs and the biography of Mohammed from the early sources. That usually makes the entire thing far more bloody.

You can even check out different translations and how they compare, but I frankly did not see much difference - violent verse remains violent despite all the tries to ameliorate it or soften the blow. And usually when you research the context of the time frame, then it gets worse because the verses were supposedly spoken during some gruesome deed or military campaign. Most of the peaceful stuff comes from the first 10-14 years where Mohammed tried to convert peacefully to his cause.

I think there was a recent translation by an Ex-Muslim Arab that was supposedly excellent and very time-intensive, but as I said, you would have to spend time going back and forth and not knowing whether that verse was abrogated or not, since the last verse could change all the previous ones coming before. I guess Allah changed his mind often enough - he is described as a deceitful God after all (actual descriptions).

So here is an on the ground report from Germany. I have not seen any migrants in central Munich, in the pedestrian zone. Didn't see any at the main train station either. This is just from casual walking, I have not made a concerted effort to look for them. In speaking with a local native friend, it appears that the migrants are housed in camps outside of the city, and are bused in as necessary to get benefits/fill out forms, etc.

I have seen lots of Turks, but that is not news.
