Ahhh Vegas. You see all kinds at McCarran airport. There's no shortages of pieces of shit in this city.

There's 2 sides to this though. I work with some Mexicans that have been in this country for 15 YEARS and can barely say 10 words in English. It pisses me the fuck off.

Yes, but that doesn't mean the endorsement for illegal immigration is there. It isn't an issue since Ricans are by default US citizens. People tend to be split, depending on their own personal beliefs but I know many in NYC, for instance, that don't like it.

Yes, but I'm sure the travel faction of RVF doesn't mind when they are in a non-English speaking country and the English option is given at an ATM or in other instances. In Mexico, English is exceedingly rare in signage except in border and heavily-touristed areas, and when you do see it, it's often borderline incomprehensible. You will not see it on signs for exits, earthquakes, fire, elevators, choking or other emergencies. The very few government web pages in English were translated by someone's cousin. I have never heard English on a recording when calling customer service. Be bilingual, I don't care, as long as you can speak the common language of English in the states.

I didn't get that many weird looks when I spoke to grandma (whose wheelchair bound iornically) in her language because I was clearly an American kid.

A few weeks ago I was out walking with my girl downtown, not far from my place. As we were starting to cross a street a nice pants-around-thighs gentleman was exiting the train station on the other side. He started to walk into the middle of the street into the intersection - of course, why not? - instead of simply crossing like normal.

There was no one else around on this somewhat chilly Sunday afternoon. From the moment he came into view he was eye fucking us, or more precisely side-eye fucking us, the whole time. He began to make a half circle coming toward us, a trajectory putting him right up on us/behind us.

I'm thinking, gunna ask for money? No he would just come straight up, like all the rest of the hustlers I brush off every day with humor.

I'm watching him out of my peripheral vision. As he gets closer - again, headed right at/behind us - I turn my head and make eye contact as I walk so he knows I see him.

As soon as I turn my head back I hear my girl scream "what the fuck!"
I turn around and she is holding her elbow and there's a bottle on the ground.

"Fucking white people....fuck you...fuck you...fuck you"

The last couple fuck you's were trailing off and quieter as I came at him (he was about 20 feet away). He seemed surprised that I wasn't apologizing for my girls elbow getting in the way of his bottle.

He immediately takes off running.

What am I going to do, chase him? Then what? Beat his ass, then go to jail? Nah.

My girl wants to call the cops, so I do, but I immediately realize that is pointless as well. I'd wait an hour at least for one to come, as it's not urgent, and then what? "A ..uh...black guy, between 18 and 27, ran in that direction 90 minutes ago...". "Lol, thank you sir, we'll do our best"

So a piece of shit gets away with being a piece of shit, like they usually do. That's life.

Thankfully none of his fine crunk juice got on her expensive coat, which she just purchased the day before after diligently saving up.

I was really pissed off.

I could have made an angry post with some inferences about black Americans and how some of them are often prone to act, but after I calmed down I rightly realized that this dude was just a crazy asshole doing something stupid, pissed of at life. Maybe some white chick on the train turned him down, or his requests for a dolla were brushed off.

In the end, what happened wasn't something to draw grand and general conclusions from.

For some reason I don't think the white man's Noticias en Vivo would be picking up the story and eager to highlight this harassment (legally an assault) had I decided to record it- Yet what happened to me is, I imagine, far more prevalent than a dude confronting and yelling at people for speaking Spanish. But that gets the outrage and news.

The angry dude in the wheelchair has got issues, he's angry at life in general, and his life specifically. He's an ass. There's nothing more to conclude from it.

Yet, I have never felt the need to record them to become a victim or "internet famous." You either ignore them or try to explain to reason with them if you think you can. The wheelchair guy's anger is not displaced, we have too many bad hombres running around, he just failed to use it in a productive manner. Also that guy filming is an "I'm with her" pussy, I hope he was registered to vote through PR so his vote didn't count.

I do think anyone who plans on living in the USA mainland should make a real attempt to learn English and I'm not big on using federal tax dollars to make materials multi lingual. At the local level, people can determine what's best for their situation.

Obviously wheelchair guy has problems with non Americans and the Puerto Rican guy likes the drama, two idiots meet, but there's a big difference between someone living in a country for 15 years and never learning the language and someone who happens to be bilingual and is having a private conversation in another language.

I obviously agree people should definitely learn the language and culture of the place they're living in, I'm Portuguese and I can speak and write in English and I wouldn't even think of living in the US any other way and I would never expect the US to change to accommodate me in case I couldn't speak the language. It is up to the immigrant to adapt to the country and not the country to the immigrant, with that said I'd tell the wheelchair guy to fuck right off if I was talking on the phone with my mother in Portuguese and he came harassing me about it.

Even in Portugal I've heard people speaking in other languages in private settings and it would never cross my mind to tell them they must speak Portuguese or otherwise they have to get out, that's stupid.

If an immigrant is being an asshole and demanding people in government institutions, private businesses or even just normal folks on the street to speak his language than he's obviously wrong and is an idiot, but when it comes to private conversations you can do whatever you want.
