Information Croatia VS Serbia observations datasheet
I thought it might be interesting to talk about what I saw in Zagreb vs Beograd. This is my perspective, not dogma. So take this for what it is. I'm open to disagreement and critique. Smile

I will be comparing the cities here as well as the mentality of the people and which is better for girls, living, game and ect. This will compare the capital cities as well as the very similar yet different people and cultures.

Girls.

Girls have a bit more attitude and are a bit worse looking in Zagreb/Croatia. This is really marginal however, I'd say even extremely marginal. Your game and your results will not differ in any way. You might not even notice this. Also if you like lighter features, Croatia/Zagreb will be a better fit.

Game.

The issues with night game/day game are also very similar. The weather was shit and I had obligations that made game very low ROI and inconvenient but I'm going to give Zagreb the plus 1 over Beograd simply due to less hooligans. No one is getting their shit fucked up in Zagreb at night. Event game and social circle game will also work well due to the size of the city. Like Beograd, bad weather scares the cats away.

Mentality and quality of life.

Croats are a bit more intellectual and more western than Serbs in mentality. They like to eat healthier (having a coast helps no doubt) and drive better. There is much more civic mindedness. It's really sad and horrible how much the damn Turks fucked much of Europe (and all now Dodgy) with their occupation. A good Romanian friend of mine also said these divides exist within Romania. History and occupation really show their role, even today.

While more expensive, Zagreb is hands down a better city long term for living. Austrian architecture and much more nature as well as a better transport system are the main reasons. There are more fresh food markets and the wider streets will lead to easier summers and winters to stomach due to superior urbanism. The city ,even though less people ,feels much bigger because of this. While kalemegdan is more interesting and more beautiful ,Maksimir is nicer overall. Tourism wise I would say Beograd is better and more interesting. I didn't see too many tourists in Zagreb ,slightly more here in Beograd actually.

Notes on the Yugoslav conflicts. I talked with some Croats about their side of the story. I do not take any sides and think that the NATO bombing was truly horrible. I also know there were no angles on any sides. After my visit I am however more sympathetic to the Croats ,the reasons are three fold. Firstly , Croats were worried about a legitimate irredentist threat. Croats are also pissed that Serbs misrepresent them during ww2. Most Croats hated Pavelic for the very obvious reason he wanted to give the coast to Italy, however many Serbs still hammer on about this and demonize Croats.

Third and most important, as a member of the (((tribe))) who is very self critical of my own cultural background, I realize the damaging mindset a victimhood mentality can cause. Many Serbs really do have this and It's an excuse for inertia and to become very opportunistic in actions, not genuine or to seek out truth.

Jews,Serbs,Greeks and Russians seem to have a history of constantly doing this, often not out of desperation but to seek their own gains.

Overall both cities are great ,despite what I've said above ,I would still recommend Beograd over Zagreb for the average RVFr.

The reason is the values this community holds and the dynamism of Beograd will be much more amicable. There is also the issue of cost and a slightly more conservative vibe. However even the cultural politics of the two nations/people are more or less the same. Men are men, women are women, everyone hates gays ect ect.

I'll probably update this later with more observations.

Man, I wish you would have left out politics from the datasheet, especially the WW2 part.

Just to give some extra perspective in this realm: Croatia was actually a pro-Germany puppet state in WW2 and they slaughtered a lot of Serbs in concentration camps:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independen...of_Croatia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Holoca...of_Croatia

Disclaimer: I am neither Serb nor Croat but have visited both and just though I would show the other side of the medal and why these two nations hate themselves from long ago.

RE: Croatia VS Serbia observations datasheet
Just some even extra perspective: Serbia in most part was also pro German puppet state during WW2 (Nedić regime) and Belgrade had become "Judenfrei" before Berlin or Wien.

Crimes and slaughtering between Croats and Serbs go both way and there is lot of propaganda and disinfo involved, but Serbs as a whole, and Croats as a whole don't have real hate for each other anymore. More important to know is that they are easily led to wars by our politicians and organizations which orchestrate events like the breakup of Yugoslavia.

Apart from this political offtopic, I agree with OP and his observation regarding Croatia.

I was in Serbia (Belgrade, Novi Sad) and various coastal towns/cities along the Dalmatian Coast. I found Serbian chicks to be very hot but also frosty. I do think it's possible to get with them, but it takes time. On the other hand, Croatian chicks were not as hot but friendlier. I'd rather spend my limited time with Croatian girls.

People are big and drink a lot, I'd be careful if rolling solo(which I don't recommend anyways). The combination of a heavy drinking culture, hooligans and overall lower levels of development one has to be careful. I look pretty innocent and can pass for a local,I was paranoid/worried a few nights ago however. Anything can happen, don't let it be a turn off though ,definitely worth coming here. I had problems the first week with a "refugee" who asked for money and jabbed me after I refused to give the locust my keep. Overall its a safe city more or less.

It's pretty safe. I went solo for about a week. Some of the dudes are aggressive with foreigners so you do have to be careful. Overall it's not too bad.

I still dont understand the difference between Serbians and Croatians.

Do they understand each other when they speak or do they have a completely different language?

Only difference is the religion, even though they're both Christian?

Everything else is same? Because looking-wise, they all look same to me. What about Montenegro? I think they're also mostly Christian

Montenegrin people consider themselves Montenegrin, even though that in early 20th century they were all called Serbs. They have strong national identity and they are also Orthodox Christian. All people here look basically the same as Slavs started to populate these places in 7th century and simply divided into groups that will later form old Balkan kingdoms.

Rossi main difference is that although the spoken language is very similar (like English vs American English), Serbs use the Cyrillic (Russian) alphabet, and Croats use the Latin alphabet.

It's very weird though. As far as I know, they look same, they speak same language, culture is probably same but just because they're from different branch of religion, they broke countries apart from each other.

I mean then, Italy would be like 3-4 countries too. On the paper, %90 of Italy is Catholic but in reality, not really. South is way more religious and north is not.

Samething for France, even worse than Italy.

I'm very interested in this post-yugoslavian countries. I'll go there first chance I get.

RE: Croatia VS Serbia observations datasheet
Croatia was under austro-hungarian rule for many centuries while Serbia was not (they were on ottoman territory but if I recall, were kind of resistants under the ottoman empire).

Croats have more in common with italians, austrians and venetians even though they are slavs. Plus they are catholic.

Serbs have more in common with greeks and byzantines + russians (also under the byzantine orthodox churches). Just like greeks, they came under Ottoman rule or ottoman borders. Their alphabet is cyrillic.

Pretensions of Serbia on our territory since 19th century (and genocidal ideas) coupled with the Establishments orchestrating war caused that. Religion as a dividing tool is a minor thing.

Bit of an oversimplification there, don't you think? The NDH murdered hundreds of thousands of Serbs in ways that made the Nazis blush. That's not me misrepresenting shit, I can post historical accounts, data, and statistics if you'd like. The fact is EVERYONE in the Balkans except for Serbs are allowed to mourn their dead and their victims. The West has been telling us for the last thirty years that we're inherently evil and genocidal and anytime we make any mention of our dead and the atrocities we suffered, we're told to stop crying about it and move on.

I'm not trying to spread tension or say everything in our long history of bad relations was Croatia's fault, but for you to just utterly whitewash history like that is just plain dishonest. As for your comment about our "establishments", I totally agree.

As for your comment about Nedic's regime, that's just plain false. Serbia had the choice between being further carved up between Croatia, Hungary, and Bulgaria where we would have suffered even more genocide than we did or have a puppet state and have the opportunity to save some of our people. The vast majority of resistance against the Nazis was ethnically Serb.

True, its not all black and white. It was a spur of the moment and my post looks a bit one sided. Both sides are guilty of crimes, but all these things would be relatively forgotten if not for Establishments (plural) who orchestrated whole breakup of Yugoslavia and fueled tensions, coupled with religion and what not.
Meanwhile assholes like Tudjman and Milosevic were having fun after the meeting in Karađorđevo.

Regarding Nedić regime, I must admit I don't have all the facts there, but it clearly states on wikipedia that Nedić regime was a Nazi puppet state, same like NDH.

There's way too much political/historical discussion in this thread. I suggest you guys open a Croatian/Serbian/Yugoslavian history topic in "Politics and War".
