I don't need to participate in your amateur attempt at interrogation nor to defend whether or not I have made money in any particular area nor to show pics of whether my dick is bigger than yours in order to sufficiently assert ideas on a topic in which I have experiences and knowledge...

And, Stun's topic presentation was sufficiently open to allow answers from a variety of perspectives rather than merely about whether you have a big dick.

You seem to get cheap thrills from attacking others without any real reason rather than merely attempting to share ideas and experiences and to attempt to stick to some kind of imitation of an adult sharing of substance.

Accordingly, guys do not necessarily need to have been successful in anything in order to talk about such topics in such a way that can be helpful to other RVFers.

I hate to be accused of serving as Armogan... but let me stand in for his claim about me that seems to apply very well to this particular post,... oh, look who it is? CR....

Yeah.. .CR... you are bringing up some abstract and theoretical ideas.

Do you even know what

is?

Could be that you read about Poloniex on the internet?

And could be that you heard some statistic about savings amounts of certain peeps and reading skills of peeps in the world... ?

yes, those are abstract principles and don't really seem to apply to arbitrage in the crypto space...

do you know what is arbitrage?

Sure, I will admit specifically that I do not use Poloniex, but I have been following bitcoin and some of the other alts and some of the dynamics in the cryptospace for over 3 years... including using similar exchanges and moving money around to make money.. ...

So, if any guy is in the practice of using some of the crypto exchanges and buying, selling, trading in bitcoin, ETH or other alts, then the guy could have some experiences related to the topic of arbitrage.. that may or may not be related to his cashflow issues, savings issues and/or his reading skills.

So, yeah, I agree with the concept of having some personal experiences if you are suggesting answers, but if you are asking questions, you don't need as many personal experiences, and surely there can be a variety of inexperience levels and still contribute to this thread and to ask questions about thread topics.. because many of us are continuing to attempt to learn and to share information with other guys... about a topic.. Isn't it called bitcoin?

I thought that someone may have made a comment about bitcoin trade volume?

I'm looking at trade volume now, and really, the volume remains fairly mediocre and does not seem to be picking up sufficiently in any kind of meaningful way in order to suggest that any kind of meaningful price battle has yet begun.. so for me that is a kind of indicator of UPPITY>>>

and when the trade volume picks up, then maybe that is a sign that a price battle has begun or is beginning...

Sometimes trade volume begins to pick up, and then it peters out, which may mean that one side or another gives up... (in this case the bears have to give up because of the continued and ongoing upwards buying pressure that they really seem to be having reversal difficulties)..

In my experience, usually such a price battle will not begin, until the price goes up and then tops off in a kind of spiking way.. and that could be soon, or it is starting to feel like it could be in the mid-to upper $1,500s, maybe?

I am certainly open to hearing other theories.. especially if RVF guys think that we are currently topping off or if they think that we have already topped.. which seems to be a less likely scenario with these current upwards and onwards price dynamics....

Seems like we are going to break through the ATH of $1350.. within hours (maybe 12 hours at most? what you think?).. currently price bouncing between lower $1330s and lower $1340s...

When you are in Bitcoin for a while (or even other Cryptos) the experience becomes a bit more concrete because of your own personal experiences; however, surely we know that you can look back at the charts and read some of the history to recognize that we are in quite the unchartered territory.

So the whole situation is exciting!!!! And, probably more exciting if you feel like you had enough time to take a decent stake in one or more of the cryptos.

Do you mind sharing how many of the cryptos that you are in? Only Bitcoin or others, too?

I'm currently about 98% in bitcoin and the other 2% dispersed through XMR, ETC and LTC.

What's driving the bull market for all cryptos?

After selling all my bitcoins and switching to ETH, I'm up about 25% now... which is about the same it would have been had I held onto all my coins.

I am glad that the switch is working out for you; however, you do need to keep in mind timing and maybe even spreading of the risk.

I think that if anyone tells you some kind of solid theory about why all cryptos are up, then they are making shit up - but we do know that there can be some kind of momentum and some kind of contagiousness that goes on in a bubble period.

A similar thing happened in 2013 with whatever alts were then in existence, they had period in which they were out performing bitcoin - even though in the end, bitcoin was the biggest winner in 2013 - even though in the end, lots of people made lots of money on alts too.

And, sure some of the big players in the alt scene are a bit bigger in percentage than they were in 2013 - and even some folks are suggesting that we should not be calling ETH an alt - it has righteousness in and of itself (which is likely part of the reason that you chose ETH rather than some other crypto).

Also, even though this is the bitcoin thread, I certainly think that your question regarding the performance of the other alts (and asking for an explanation) is very pertinent to bitcoin, and surely it seems quite relevant.. as long as guys don't come in pumping other coins and mere bitcoin FUDster bashing without justification(s). So, I would like to hear a variety of explanations regarding why RVF guys might think that the other alts are performing so well and if there are reasonable and plausible explanations beyond mere contagion.

I understand that a few guys do buy into the ETH development matters and believe that the various coins that are affiliated with ETH are actually bringing some fundamentals to ETH, beyond mere speculation and propaganda. And, I don't really have a problem with that kind of thinking, even though I take a lot of it with a grain of salt and think when we get too much into a pump of those ideas, then that shit should go into another thread, unless it is somehow connected to BTC.

Do you have any explanation or theory Clean Slate in regards to the simultaneous pumps? I think that you might buy a little bit into the talking point that bitcoin is in a kind of perilous condition? but I doubt that sums up your thinking, right?

Another angle to consider is a kind of dynamic of crypto performance - and I do not know the exact numbers, but even though bitcoin has been going up steadily for several weeks - we have also experienced recent days in which a large majority of alt coins have considerably outperformed bitcoin.

Accordingly, you should attempt to ground yourself in reality when you ask whether that factual outperformance reasonably indicates that those coins are taking over bitcoin or they have some fundamentals that bitcoin does not have (beyond a small market cap that can be pumped)? Or is there a more logical conclusion that may indicate that some or all of those coins are in a bubble that is much less sustainable than any arguable bubble that bitcoin might be in?

Guys are going to conclude differently on the facts and on the "reasonable" conclusions derived from such "facts."

That is part of the reason that we have a variety of difference of opinions regarding how to invest and how much to invest and/or about whether staying on the sidelines is a good idea.

Bitcoin is now an official form of payment in Japan. That is huge and I think it's a big reason why the price has increased.

Is anyone doing exchange arbitrage, and is it worth the time/risk after fees are factored in?

And, if it is, why isn't everyone (gen pop) doing it?

You can take Gee's theoretical approach on why or why not to do arbitrage. But his method of making money is limited to his strategy of buy high sell low, or whatever he does. Very one-sided.

OR you hear my side of someone who has done this multiple times successfully. First, it is not as easy as you think in practice. The best way to do this is to have fiat and coins on multiple exchanges. You buy/sell accordingly. This is difficult because it takes time to wire money to exchanges.

Another way to do it is to see the arbitrage and send coins to two exchanges. Sell the coins on one and buy equal amount on margin on the other. Then send the fiat from the one to pay off the margin on the other. Problem is it takes time to wire the money between the exchanges.

Third option is to sell on one and buy from the other. But you need to send the coins between exchanges, if you are using BTC this could take over an hour plus. BTC is so fast!

Biggest obstacle is time that wipes out the arbitrage. Hard to time it correctly.

It's days like these where I'm like WTF?! About to be in black out city in 5 4 3 2 1....

Thanks, Armogan. Coinbase seems to take a 5 days to a week to process bank transfers, while Credit Card payments are instant. I haven't checked the other exchanges. You didn't mention buying by credit card, and I suppose there are good reasons to avoid doing that.
Armogan 路 2017-04-28 15:29:00 路 #4045
When you buy on Coinbase they honor the rate you purchased it, even if your bank transfer goes through 5 days later.

I personally don't buy on Coinbase because of the fees, I would just go over to GDAX, their exchange, and put a maker order in. No fees.

Credit card is ok, but again you are paying more fees probably 5% of the transaction and capped limit. I've flirted with the idea of opening cash back credit cards and using it purchase, but they may block the payment or not awarded the cash back.

Well, there is Coinbase, and there is GDAX.. and you do seem to be referring to Coinbase, even though it remains a little bit unclear about what you are doing exactly - transferring money or buying coins. I think that you are actually referring to buying coins on Coinbase.

Let's take Coinbase first. You can buy coins instantly in more than one method - sometimes the coins will be transferred to your availability depending on your method of payment and your limits. New accounts have lower limits than older accounts, and sometimes you can request to increase your limits. There are various fees to buy in that manner, and surely the fees are higher with Credit cards by the time you add up the fees on both ends (because credit cards treat it as a cash advance). The fees could add up to close to 20% when you use a credit card, and also could continue to punish you depending on your credit card and whether you have a balance on it and how your cc company treats cash advances (ongoing fees for several months, for example).

One of the cheapest ways to get bitcoins, is to plan in advance, and set up a GDAX account. Transfer dollars onto the GDAX account, and then just set up various buy orders. If you set up the buy orders in advance, then there are no fees on GDAX. That is called a maker fee rather than a taker fee. Maker fees on GDAX are zero, and taker fees are .2%, which is still fairly reasonable.

(04-28-2017 02:41 PM)Stun Wrote:  I haven't checked the other exchanges.

Each exchange has its own way of doing things that can cause for advantages or disadvantages in terms of fees and in terms of how quickly you have access to either the bitcoins or the dollars that you transfer.

Once you get verified on Gemini, for example, you could transfer $500 per day and no fees and access to trading (which tends to be between .15% and .25% on Gemini) - even though you cannot withdraw funds related to your dollar transfers until they clear, which takes about a week on Gemini.. unless you do a wire transfer (which is usually $15 - but banks can vary regarding that too).

(04-28-2017 02:41 PM)Stun Wrote:  You didn't mention buying by credit card, and I suppose there are good reasons to avoid doing that.

you are correct that cc is usually not a very good way to go, unless you really see a great buying opportunity and you want to leverage or something like that.... they tend to screw you in fees and tend to take advantage of folks who either do not plan in advance or manage their cash flow with some prudence. The exception might be the high ball roller who may be gambling with his use of credit - which I personally continue to recommend against such a way of going about investment matters.

Seems like I already commented about this topic in my above post 4042
in which I asserted that it seems that a vast majority of alts have outperformed BTC in recent weeks.

So fucking what?

In other words, your above post seems to have little to do with bitcoin, except for some kind of desire to troll this thread and to brag about being right in a prediction about a alt coin pumping effort.

Bitcoin should not need to compete for attention and space in its own thread when you are wanting to come here and pump alts, right?

No one is stopping you from making your potential millions of dollars betting on the right alts.. go ahead and do it, and there is a thread to discuss those matters, too...

When I first made my post asking about investing the $5k, ETH was at $50 and GNT was at .10. Now ETH is at $68 and GNT at .15. By the time I had my money on Poloniex, ETH had already shot up to $66, so I felt like I had missed the boat. It has been a crazy few days. So instead I just put it all on GNT at .14 haha. Up a good amount now. Hoping I can ride this to .30 or something.

I still wanna get some cheap ETH however. I'm hoping the price doesn't shoot up too much more by May 20. I'll have another 3k or so to invest by then. I might trade in the GNT for ETH then if it looks like a good idea or buy some. But the idea of just holding this GNT until the end of the year and just seeing what happens is appealing too.

I don't have any kind of problem that you might be a bit bearish about bitcoin or you might think that bitcoin is currently topping.

Sure, I don't really know what is going to happen in regards to price, and that is why I continuously talk in terms of probabilities

You want to make it into some kind of competition.. but that seems like a fucking waste of energy, no?

And childish, right?

And, likely not really very productive in a thread like this unless we can have these kind of discussions in a way that can help to inform guys or help for them to interact or help for them to share ideas about their investment strategies (hopefully, somehow bitcoin related).

By the way, can you share your current allocations in Crypto, Armogan? How about fiat investments, you have any? How much of your cash flow do you dedicate to investing on an ongoing basis more or less?

On a personal level guys can allocate however they feel will be good for them, and it is a struggle and the more coins you choose, the more time you have to invest in trying to figure them out and to figure out your various investment strategies including exit strategies, if needed (likely the more coins that you have)

The facts of the matter is bitcoin is really up... and amazingly up at a high level for a pretty long period.. and I am continuing to think that such a phenomenon is a bit more bullish than bearish... we remain in a bull market for bitcoin... even though we also have decent odds that a correction of 20 to 35% could occur.

So what is going on in the market right now?

As I type these numbers, we have the following:

- Ripple - 30% up in the last 24h
- Golem - 28 % up
- Dash - 20% up
- Zcash - 12% up

Other coins also performed quite well last week.

So what is causing those movements?
