I just flew emirates a couple of weeks ago from Dubai to Seattle. It was economy. I got all those amenities and $1 wifi. The small details and attentiveness matter a lot and are everything there is to know about the flight (reflection of management, morale of the crew, mechanic and maintenance of the airplane). Surprisingly, the emirates ticket was actually cheaper than the flight offered by American or British airlines. Did I also mention how tidy Emirates maintain the bathroom for the whole duration of the flight? I don't think spoiled american/british flight attendants would care to lift a finger on the toilet seat.

Small details like the security staff at Dubai not being aware that a step-down transformer doesn't have a battery and being more incompetent than TSA goons? Not to mention the actual Emirates working at customs and elsewhere are some of the laziest people on this planet and make American/British flight attendants look like 1960's housewives.

Even if we exclude the joke that is the Dubai airport Emirates is based out of, those small details on an Emirates flight have different value to different people. I think their economy class service sucks and the small differences don't make a lick of difference. Typically getting three seats to myself on United is a large difference.

"reflection of management, morale of the crew, mechanic and maintenance of the airplane" -- or a reflection of the quasi slave labor in the UAE.

I just bought my plane tickets for my trip to the Ayahuasca Foundation in Peru next week. I am glad this happened. It made my tickets cheaper. Yes, I am flying on United and LATAM Peru for the Peruvian portion of the flight.

Airport security has nothing to do with flight crew, service and maintenance of the aircraft. They are totally two different things.

I'm not talking about the specific things you're trying to narrow the discussion to, I'm talking about the complete flight experience so when you're talking about a state-owned airline operating out of basically the single state-owned hub you're wrong. United's experience is going to differ depending on where you fly from. Emirates is always going to involve DXB and relates directly to the experience of choosing to fly with them.

My experience with United would suck if I had to routinely fly from O'Hare on any day besides the weekend due to Chicago traffic. If that was 100% of the experience and I lived next door to Midway airport I'm pretty sure that would affect my choice of airline. However, once you're through security or if you're flying in from somewhere else and it's just a stop -- O'Hare is actually decent.

You know TSA failed about 95 Percent of airport security tests conducted By Homeland Security... and most importantly they are assholes and still can't do their job right

just go ahead and bend yourself backwards and comply then... and get all your rights taken away by these greedy corps...

I'll take TSA over the security I see at Dubai. You aren't even allowed to fly with your laptop directly to America anymore on their flights. The security there is totally incompetent -- I've witnessed it myself repeatedly. In fact, the only time I've had "rights" taken away is when I had my $250 converter basically stolen from me in Dubai.

I don't know about the 95% of security tests the TSA is supposedly failing or have the tests in front of me to know what they failed and why.

Regardless, what does that have to do with Republic pulling the pill-popping gay Dr off the flight so they could deadhead their crew?

Don't sheep typically follow the herd though? The herd in this case actually seems to be anti-United / anti-police.

So ya, we've got a lot of sheep in America but I'm not sure that they're on the side you think they are.

I really don't think you know what you are talking about. You are wasting my time. The laptop ban only applies if you are flying a gulf carrier (emirates, etihand, royal jordanian, etc) from the middle east. It doesn't apply if you are flying any of the American carriers from the middle east. Do you really go through a different security measure if you are flying United instead of Emirates at Dubai International? They all depart at the same damn airport, same security measure, all practically go through the same security line. Which means this is a protectionist measure, lobbyists greased someone's palm in Washington... trying to protect the greedy American airline industry, nothing to do with any security threat. For you as an American consumer, this is a terrible deal.

You're wrong. You're claiming I don't know what I'm talking about but you just conclusively proved you don't.

It applies to any carrier flying directly from the Middle East without a stop somewhere else where theoretically the checked baggage would then undergo additional screening.

American carriers no longer fly directly from Dubai to America because of the non-competitive environment created by the Emirati subsidies to their own airline. The lobbyists in Washington greasing palms can't compare to a state-owned entity that doesn't even need to lobby for their grease.

When I'm flying from Dubai I have to take Lufthansa to Germany before I touch an American carrier -- and then yes, I get to sit in the Senator lounge in Frankfurt with my laptop and yes, that lounge is awesome and free with my cheap-o Economy ticket and status level. Thanks United.

...because they aren't flying directly to America. Feel free to show me all those direct flights.

Like I said -- you're wrong.

eta: From your own article - "In addition, no flights operated by US or European airlines will be affected directly by the ban because none offer non-stop service to the US from that region of the world."

Funny how you intentionally cut that last part out of your direct quote. You were wrong and then selectively quoted the article right after telling me that I'm wasting your time?

Is there any logic to that point to begin with? Why would any US or European carrier want to operate direct flights from the Middle east to the USA to begin with unless they codeshare with or operated by some other gulf airline? There isn't much money to be made from a financial perspective. Emirates probably loses shit ton of money too from their US operation but as you said they are heavily subsidized by their oil rich government. But as a consumer, it brings quite of value to me. The US laptop ban is just a way to discourage the competition in my view but its awfully bad for me as a consumer. Fly America Act is another deal these lobbyists pushed for... it's awfully bad. You can't be rewarding shitty businesses and services with government protection.

My point is that you insulted me and then you conclusively demonstrated your lack of knowledge on the point you attempted to argue. You then intentionally tried to cover it up with selectively-edited deceit. You know you're wrong and it's in bad taste for a man to keep arguing once it's been proven.

I never said a European carrier would want to operate direct flights from the Middle East to the USA. In case you haven't figured it out, that almost never happens with any flag carrier from one nation operating directly between two separate nations. The only exception with that is airlines like Singapore that sometimes fly between other hubs en-route to their national hub and will also sell that first leg between the two separate nations individually.

I'll continue debating with other people here but I'm done with you. I prefer to deal with people that have integrity. It's one thing to be wrong, or even to toss insults - we all do that from time to time - it's another thing to be openly deceitful.

To an extent flying has been commoditized, so it absolutely *is* the little things which differentiate the airlines.

You remind me of an abused girlfriend whose asshole bf can do no wrong. No matter how many times you're beat or crapped on, you're always there to defend him. Then when people correctly point out how shitty he treats you, you attack them.

The numbers, data, general opinion, media, and everyone on this forum basically say that UA is a shitty airline. But you know better.

As a Post script, a lot of major centers outside of the US do have separate security for airlines flying there. It has to do with different procedures like take your shoes off, scanners which use different freqs, or whatever the threat de jour happens to be at the time. Personally I'm game with zero security at all, and given that TSA has stopped reporting their test results due to their constant shitty performance, you basically are, except at 100x the price because you get the feelz of security.

Exactly exactly exactly.

Achromaticmike is being stubbornly argumentative to the point of childishness. Littered throughout his posts are weak status drops of how cool he is for being gold this or that and how cool the US lounges are (they suck). Reaks of shallow and pathetic elitism.

Then saying third class in United no worse than third class on any other airline? Why you say? "Because sometimes I get 3 seats all to myself! .... herp derp smelly Indians sometimes on Emirates!" dude what the hell are you talking about at this point?

Then defending the TSA is where he loses all credibility. That's shameful. I think if United airlines or the TSA started to probe buttholes Achromaticmike would claim its good because it sometimes cleans out his prostate if he pushes back into it at the right angle.

There have been some halfway decent arguments from him but at this point the blatant subjective bias has straight turned into hallucinations and co-dependent rationalizing.

This is a thread about an American airline operating in America under American law. United is the best american airline in my opinion - mostly because it's the only one part of Star Alliance. If we were to narrow it down to best major airline for domestic travel I actually would change my answer to Delta.

Where did I say UA was better than SQ? I actually told my sister to purchase SQ tickets to come visit me just last month. I did say UA was better than EK economy class because DXB is shit and they're constantly flying the third-world in their airplanes. Saying something sucks equally in the economy section doesn't mean "better." Yes -- the UA lounges absolutely do suck. However, what alliance is United a part of again? ...and SQ? ...and ANA? You're basically making the point for me - if you're not flying and building your status with United in America - you aren't going in those great lounges you just referred to on economy tickets anyways.

As to my claims of "a row to myself" -- that's my anecdotal experience based on the specific flights I routinely take. Whether it applies across the board I don't know. However, your statistics don't show the seat utilization of economy plus which is a fare class Singapore doesn't even have and always has more seats open on United than the regular economy section. Singapore has a Premium economy but that's not a free upgrade. If I had to fly in the economy section of United without *G UA would suck.

tard Except you didn't correctly point out how shitty they treat me. I get upgrades flying internationally, a great mileage rewards system and probably the only one still worth getting to 1mm on, great lounge access overseas, and a row to myself about half the time. For the same price as an economy ticket on any other airline that's pretty damn good.

Based on the rumor and falsehoods being passed around -- I guess I do. like you said, if you want to use the ANA lounges you better fly United. For me, the Lufthansa Senator lounges are the biggest benefit but when I go to Japan later this year maybe I'll check out ANA's lounge and send you my full report

Yep. We basically have the same thing in America. TSA pre-check, global entry, etc... We could and should definitely develop those programs into the superior ones you refer to.

My support for United definitely isn't absolute and is absolutely based on the way in which I utilize them. However, I'm on the side of an American business when it seems the overwhelming majority of Americans are ignorantly on the side of a gay, pill-popping felon diagnosed with mental issues by his Psychiatrist so I'm pretty secure with the side I'm on right now. Where did I say the US lounges were cool? US airline lounges suck across the board. They're better than sitting at the gate but that's about it. If I thought the US lounges were good I'd pay for a subscription -- I don't. Feel free to quote that back to me... "Status drops"? Over airline status? Big Grin Isn't this a website for guys to learn about bettering themselves based on the writing of a guy who traveled overseas in large part to improve his success with women? United Premier status is about the last thing I'd "status drop" here.

Go fly them and see for yourself. Yes, third-world passengers often do suck to fly around. Just like Southwest having the highest average weight per passenger sucks if you appreciate personal space.

I think if United airlines or the TSA started to probe buttholes Achromaticmike would claim its good because it sometimes cleans out his prostate if he pushes back into it at the right angle.

Talk about some bullshit straw men you're tossing around. Overall I think the TSA is a joke. However, I think security in Dubai is even worse. Regardless, I acknowledge that if I'm told to get off the private property of an airline by a police officer - they have the legal right to drag me off when I fail to comply.

Sorry but that appears to be coming from your end. The quote feature is easy to use although I guess if you want to continue misrepresenting what I stated it's probably better not to use it.

I'm with you here brother. It really hurts my feelings when people say my step-down transformer has a battery.

Hang in there.

Aloha!

I explained what it was to three supervisory levels of their security, and they handed my Passport to the police only for the police to hand it back to me and tell me he was sorry he couldn't help me get it back because the previous supervisor makes the final decision on that stuff. Of course the transformer got tossed and it had cost me about $250 the month before.

...I'm not surprised that it would hurt your feelings as you seem to have really strong feelings about unfair treatment from security staff based on your earlier post in this thread. Anyways, I definitely appreciate your support Smile

This is just an attempt by the powers that be, who are United shareholders, to discredit him.

And what the hell other kind of doctor can you be in Kentucky? Its a bunch of damn pill poppers living there anyway. They probably bust every single doctor that is "related to the judge. "
