Even that way, I doubt it's worth making everyone do it in a nation with tens to hundreds of millions of people. Just letting people keep their kit at home and making the training voluntary would probably fill a huge reserve force.

But naturally, since that requires treating citizens with respect and trusting them, no government is likely to take that route.

Best thing for NK would be a military coup followed by whichever general takes over handing the keys over to China. At least the Chinese could develop the country and bring it out of poverty. NK would be a millstone around SK's neck so if China wants to keep the US away from it's borders, take over NK and make overtures towards SK to be besties. Without a NK threat SK is free to unshackle itself from the US. Minus one headache for the US, minus one for China. It's very much in China's favour to castrate Kim Jong-Un to keep the US away.

Trump probably will strike NK at some point just to warn the Chinese to keep their dog on a leash.

If Kim gets even a whiff of someone moving to kill him or do a regime beheading he will order every gun and missile to be fired at SK.

He'd order his military to force thousands of civilians into the DMZ as a meat wall.

Personally I lean more towards the Starship Trooper model. It's as yet untested but I'd say it's worth the gamble.

What the wording of that treaty really means is that after the US plants a bomb on top of Kim Jong-un, China moves into North Korea to keep it from falling into the hands of "US imperialists." Which of course is part of the deal; Trump doesn't want to occupy NK anyway and probably neither does South Korea.

NK only survives because of Chinese support, their last economic partner.

Trump sends carrier fleets, threatens war in region.

China is as communist as Katy Perry is Christian. I suspect the new generation feel no sense of comradeship towards the North Koreans and simply view them as a liability. Xi Jinping probably only offers support to please the old, powerful members in the Communist Party who will die off quite soon.

I would not worry too much about North Korea's nuclear threat. Missile defense shields should take out incoming missiles- the only potential problem is a fallout when a NATO force (most likely the US) retaliates, if China or Russia tries to get in their way.

You are entirely missing the point. There isn't and never was any feeling of "communist solidarity" between China and N. Korea. China's support of NK has always been entirely due to wanting a buffer zone between itself and US controlled territory (S. Korea).

If China was worried about the US 50 years ago, those feelings much be an order of magnitude increased today. China has seen the US become increasingly unhinged, overthrowing sovereign regimes left and right, invading countries and sponsoring "color revolutions."

The Chinese government understands that the biggest, shiniest prize still dangling in front of the eyes of US (((elites))) is....ruling China. Oh, how dearly they would love to rule China! Not only would they love to rule China, they are thinking that in the long run, they will have to rule China because in the next several decades the West will collapse under the weight of its own "diversity."

The Chinese are not going to simply let the USA plant boots on the North Korean-Chinese border.

If things are really as bad as people say in Korea I dont see the point in even fighting. For the cost of 50 million you could probably load up 50 million cheeseburgers and air drop em with some liberation pamphlet. Probably can roll in there afterwards without a bullet fired then go pick up Kim. Im sure the MIC is dying to get its pistons firing though, so we'll probably go about it in the most unproductive way possible.
