I am still cautious about Russia but it seems people there are slowly regaining sanity west lacks.
A new law has passed 1st hearing with only one vote against it that would rule that or light physical offenses against women and children that result in only bruises or less, the responsibility would be downgraded from criminal to administrative.
The authors of this law said they do it to strengthen the authority of parents in family.
The context of the law is that currently like in most west countries it is a criminal offense for parents to slap children but only administrative offense for strangers. This law comes from Soviet union and is older then the western feminist laws about domestic violence. The law can be used to take children out from families for minor offenses just like in Western Europe. (Although Russia enforces such norms much rarer then countries like UK, Norway or Sweden where many children are taken away from Russian and Eastern European migrants for actions that are acceptable in their home countries but unacceptable to the politically correct west).
This with the already existing bans on homosexual propaganda and child adoption to foreign countries (read: countries where homosexuals and single parents are allowed to adopt) would make Russia a much more traditional family friendly country compared to west.
I first read these news in Latvian news, not sure Western media covers this much but I think if it gets passed it will be used to vilify Russia in the old lamestream media.
While most Eastern European people are red pill on the Muslim immigration issue, sadly most of my fellow people side with western values on this domestic violence issue. As internet comments indicate - people use this already to further their hatred for everything Russian. Then again since the start of Ukrainian war, EE mainstream news channels use hired commentators to spread anti Russian propaganda while Russia probably hires her own commentators to spread pro-Russian propoganda. Due to this, the most popular EE news site comments are a very suspicious metric of the true sentiment of the people.
Quote:A bill that would downgrade domestic violence from a criminal charge to an administrative offense passed its first voting hurdle on Wednesday in Russia’s lower house of parliament the duma .
Politico Europe said that 368 lawmakers voted in favor of the bill with one “no” vote and one abstaining.
Under the rule, the charge of “battery within the family” would be removed from the Russian Criminal Code, said the Moscow Times. The offense will be punishable by a fine, community service and a brief prison term.
However, the criminal charge returns if a perpetrator is charged with the offense twice or more in a year.
Conservative minister of parliament Yelena Mizulina sponsored the bill, which she said brings domestic battery in line with other battery charges. In 2016, Russia voted to reduce the charges of assault and battery from criminal to administrative offenses if the incident did not lead to actual bodily harm.

Mizulina was instrumental in implementing the anti-LGBT “Gay propaganda” law, which criminalized any positive portrayal of same-sex relationships. The law has been decried around the world as a human rights abuse, but Russian legislators insist that the law is necessary to protect children.
Mizulina is using the same tack to push the domestic violence law.
“In the traditional family culture in Russia, parent-child relationships are built on the authority of the parents’ power,” Mizulina said in a speech to the duma on Wednesday. “The laws should support that family tradition.”
On Twitter, Mizulina wrote, “If you slap your mischievous kid, you’re threatened with up to two years [in prison]. But if your neighbor beats your child — everything ends with an administrative punishment.”

She went on, “How many more families will waste police resources, while the duma discusses [the proposed changes]? There are 20 million families with children in the Russian Federation. All of them are in danger.”
RE: Russia about to decriminialize domestic violance
In my opinion when we stopped allowing teachers to spank our children in schools is when things started to go downhill in our society. Children need to learn respect at an early age. I agree 100 % with this thread. I'm not advocating beating women and children. But, advocate domestic disapline.

RE: Russia about to decriminialize domestic violance
For everyone who is confused by the title: Domestic Violence IS NOT legal, far from it - it just isn't more illegal than other kinds of battery.
I understand the point the law is trying to make, but let's be honest: In the hierarchy of all things cultural, it doesn't make a big difference.
The divorce rate is at 51%. Child birth rate is below replacement. Muslim migration is high. So I'm not really seeing why this particular law makes things better for traditional, healthy and orthodox families.
I'm the first to defend Russian Conservativism, but let's stay real here and not drink the Cool Aid. There need to be a lot of laws of these kind to make a difference. I hope to see it sooner than later, as Russia is still number 1 on my list of countries to move to when SHTF.

I'll take a shot at this. Not saying I agree with this law, but let's play devil's advocate...
The argument could be made that there are certain situations with certain women, under certain circumstances, in which the woman needs to experience the authority of her husband, and would not respond to any other means except a minor slap.
I think if a woman is the type of woman who needs to be slapped, she is not worth being married to, but nevertheless the argument could be made (very red pill) that some women respond only to these types of physical authority measures by her husband.
There is also a sense of traditional honor. If the woman deeply or publicly insults the man (the head of household), the argument could be made that she should be corrected in this way. One could argue the man is the holder and protector of honor, and that infractions in the household are his prerogative to discipline.
This law would give some leeway for the man to do these types of things.

I'm a fan of Molyneux, but I think he goes a bit too far on the "no spanking" thing.
Yes, of course it's bad for a father to beat his son all the time, and yes, many children who were beaten by their fathers go on to beat their own children later in life. However, I think it can be a good thing for a boy to get his ass kicked by his father once or twice when he misbehaves (assuming the father is a good, responsible man most of the time).
If a child is beaten all the time for no reason, that is bad, since the kid will probably have no idea why he is being beaten, and will grow up thinking violence is just a normal part of life. But if a child is hardly ever beaten, and then his father kicks his ass once or twice when he really misbehaves, that can be good for the child. The child will know exactly why he is being beaten, and is likely to change his behavior.

Fine, I'll grant that, but how many parents do you know of who are this judicious? I've never known one.
RE: Russia about to decriminialize domestic violance
I believe in discipline! I notice cultures that "discipline" their children and women end up being well behaved hence they learn healthy boundaries externally as well as internally! You just need to compare it to how our kids are turning out today with no discipline! They are fucking out of control!!
Women are out of control and treat men like shit cause you can't give them a good backhand anymore! We all know a woman won't leave a man that beats her. From talking to women that have been beating by men, I can still see in their eyes years down the road that they are still madly in love with them! There is also research out there that explains why... She wants to be hit to feel the manly energy where we know women are repulsed by wussy men. Even Roosh has said it, anger from a man is an aphrodisiac for women. It also explains why most women want to be dominated in the bedroom and why Fifthy Shades of Grey was a hit!
One thing I learnt with working with labours is that men aren't good at communication. We are physical beings and that is how we express ourselves. Women on the other hand can't shut their mouths.
When I say "discipline" I don't mean putting someone in hospital, I mean a spanking for a child and a slap across her face! A slap across the face is the same thing as a spanking but only on a different part of the body!

The problem with allowing/prohibiting spanking is the legal ambiguities that arise when children are subjected to true abuse in the guise of domestic disciplining. With alcoholism being a major problem in Russia I can see how this would have been an issue in the first place.
As a father I reserve the right to discipline my own kid and no lawmaker is going to tell me how that's best done. At the same time I think spanking kids is the lazy way out, it's something I'd rather reserve to women.

Are you implying that all the parents you know are either beating their children all the time or have never spanked them? That no person is observing the middle ground?
That's just a load of crap!
You live in a very sissified bubble if you honestly believe what you write.
Trough the whole 2nd and 3rd world this approach is observed.
All fathers who would never spank their child are 1st world sissies or just men who are afraid to do it due to the legal system.
Father's who spank their children undeserved are 99.9% of cases alcoholics or drug abusers. So spanking is not the problem - substance abuse is.

Like I said, I get the idea.
The point is, that it domestic abuse is still illegal. That's not a leeway.
The leeway is the lack of the police's response. They usually don't care if they get called for "domestic abuse", unlike in western societes where they immediately jump to arrest the husband. I have no statistics on that, but that's what I got from dating a lot of Russian women.
That's why I dont think its a massive game changer.

First and foremost I speak as a person who disagrees with the point you are trying to make. It's irrelevant if that's my actual opinion, or if I'm playing devil's advocate. Anything else belongs in the realm of your imagination. I will ignore your question as its just passive-indirect BS.
Regarding the Overton window, you could argue, too, that the pendulum actually swings the other way with all the relaxtion of muslim migration. This law could just be eyewash.

RE: Russia about to decriminialize domestic violance
My parents spanked me, which I could tell my dad hated more than we did, his heart just wasn't in it, until they got a hold of seventies pop psych books, and then they wanted to talk forever about choices, had family meetings, forced me to come up with my own punishments for what I did, performed incompetent psychiatric interventions on every move me and my brothers did, endlessly talked jargony talk, asking if my inner child was hurting, and hauled out their Parent Effectiveness Training handbooks PET , and made me sit next to them as we reviewed the principles ("Don't make it a secret, feel free to share this handbook with your children," it said in the preface.), came up with long drawn out solutions to my misbehavior, "Maybe you should volunteer to do yard work for a week for poor old Mrs. Racherbaumer, who you called a piece of shit?"
Made me nostalgic, at 12, for a good old fashioned spanking to be done with it.
I have posted this video before in a different context. Here Dmitry Orlov explains to a mostly hostile crowd the reasoning behind corporal punishment.
His main point is that it isn't about pain, but about respect, and if you want to be part of a respectful community, you have to be respectful, and if you are not, you get disrespect in return for your disrespect. The violence, in his view, is largely symbolic, and has nothing to do with a heated violent thrashing.
He also makes the point that this view is prevalent in the human species except for the feminized West.

I guess I'll rephrase what I said:
I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing for a boy to get beaten by his dad, provided that it is done for a reason and the dad is careful not to injure him.
There is a big difference between being slapped in the face and having your head smashed into a wall.
In my opinion, the violence is only bad when it is applied arbitrarily (i.e. for no good reason) and/or when the child is actually injured.
I've never been a parent, so I could be wrong about this.
In any case, I think Stefan Molyneux takes the issue way to seriously. The fact that he is celebrating the French government meddling in family matters proves he is taking this issue too seriously.
