I only spotted a stuffed one.

There are some very strange animals in Siberia and Far East.
I visited some museums and I had no idea that such existed or had existed.

Interesting stuff, there's really not that many places in the world left that can harbour secrets and undiscovered stuff. I think about mid Congo, parts of the amazon, antarctica, the deep sea and these parts of Russia. Especially Kamchatka is a very unique and strange region with its volcanoes etc. Would love to go one day and check it out myself.

Khabarovsk considers itself the capital city of the Russian Far East, you'll find it attracts the younger women of the region (and from Amur, Magadan, Jewish AO, even some from Sakhalin) for university and work. At least, for those who aren't trying to move to Moscow or neighbouring countries.

The layout of the city and the pavements/roads are probably of a better quality than Vladivostok too, so logistics are a bit better.

I don't appreciate the bolded accusation. I took the process from this site which you are required to apply through for a Russian visa, unless you go through an agency. ru.vfsglobal.co.uk/Tourist_visafees.html

You pay the visa fee, and you also have to pay a service charge. You need to pay for an invitation as well on a basic tourist visa. I added the cost of delivery once the process is done, but if you pick it up in person you'll save on that cost.

If you still feel I'm wrong, then please do leave a link to the price list to show you only pay 35 euros total and I'll be happy to put my hands up and admit the error.

If I get the invitation letter from a hotel, how long does it take to get the visa?

The reason I ask is because there isn't a Russian consulate where I live, so I'll have to travel to obtain the visa.

I'm not sure if there are different timeframes across different countries, but here in the UK I got my visa within two weeks of submitting my application. You can get it quicker but it costs more. In most countries they usually offer to post the visa and passport back to you for a fee.

Email the consulate. They will answer your questions.
You don't need to travel, you can send your passport with post.

Hey fellas, just bumping up a old thread to seek recommendation - visiting Eastern Russia vs Western.
I'm going to be in Shanghai next year April for a few days for business and thought why not take leave and fly to Russia for lets say around two to three weeks vacation.

I had a look at the flight time and it only takes 3+hours (direct) to get to Vladivostok. From there I'll probably split up my time between Vladivostok and Khabarovsk.
I'm intending to go there to absorb the russian culture and language, do a some sightseeing and ofc meet some nice talent over there, but I'm not necessary just going there for the women.
After checking out flight options from Shanghai to Moscow, it appears there's not much of difference in price between flying to Moscow vs Flying to Vladivostok.

I'm a little torn whether visit i.e Moscow & St. Petersburg or leave Western Russia for another time?

Moscow vs VV: I've been to both places for at least a couple months and I'd say you're better off going to Moscow and possibly making a side-trip to St. Petersburg.

Reasons: My monthly spend in VV was pretty much the same as in Moscow, yet Moscow is much more interesting. Women in VV are as hot as in Moscow. Also, if you don't speak Russian you're better off in Moscow.

Thanks, sort of makes sense to visit West first since language barrier won't be as much as a shock to me since English will be more common in touristy areas. I've already started to learn Russian, but I guess 4 month isn't enough to learn basic conversational skills for me to enjoy the Far East.

Just out of curiosity did you end up touring the wilderness of the Far East? I.e visiting lakes and mountains?

I checked out Lake Baikal last year and it was gorgeous. I live out of a couple of suitcases, so I don't have the right clothes to properly check out the wilderness. I'd love to do some fishing, but it's more useful for me to have suits and pocket squares.

I currently stay with a Latvian friend in a big apartment and another room is on airbnb. A girl originally from Kahbarovsk (now studying in Moscow) was staying there, I took her out after some chitchat in the kitchen, couldnt close the deal sadly.
Her rack was enormous, I just read that two guys mentioned that before, seems to be true haha ;-)
