^^ This- girls are crazy about Moscato these days. More of them are getting into Rieslings too which are inexpensive.

thedude3737 is right, grenache/syrah is probably your best best for around $10, or maybe a Sangiovese.

One of my favorite $10 bottles:

For a white I'd pick a verdejo. Can't go wrong with this guy, Ermita de Nieve.

I also don't mind Pacific Rim rielsling. Made by members of the Bonny Doon gang (who also do the Big House Red/Whites which are decent for the price too)

I was glancing through this thread the other day. Last night me and a fuck buddy wanted to get some cheap wine. I remember seeing your post, saw this wine at the liquor store, and decided to try it out. Not bad at all. A little sweet, but I liked it and so did she. Good recommendation.

My favorite one is a cheap cabernet sauvignon from Chile called Casillero del Diablo, not sure how much it is in the US but in Canada it goes for around $15, so probably within your budget down there as all booze is cheaper in the States. Here's their website

If you have a Costco membership, I would really recommend the Kirkland Signature Malbec.

It comes out $6-7 and is a really nice wine for the price.

If not, this delicious $7 port can be had at Trader Joes

RE: What's your favorite wine for under $10?
I'm reviving this thread as I've been drinking some wine lately. One of my go-to table wines lately is an Argentinian Malbec (actually 90% Malbec, 6% Syrah, 4% Bonarda) which is very nice when chilled down to about 60-62F. Makes a great table wine and girls love it in my experience. It's a little fruity with a decent body and goes great with red meats and even pizza.

Alamos Malbec 2014. I pay about $8.50 for a bottle in Texas.

Ravenswood goes on sale very frequently at my local market. I buy it when it's under $10.99.

RE: What's your favorite wine for under $10?
One good site that you should bookmark is winesearcher ( http://www.wine-searcher.com ), it's a great price search engine for specific wines by vintage and label near you.

A few quick picks under $10:

Cristalino cava (cava = sparkling wine from Catalonia). Their pink "champagne" is, pound for pound, the best value in sparkling wines worldwide. Good date wine.

Slightly over $10 for whites I like Getariako Txakolinas, from the Spanich Basque country. It's a fairly dry effervescent white wine, meaning it has a slight tendency to fizz, good summer miday drinking. They look like this:

Other good everyday whites are the ones from Cotes de Gascogne (SW France), great value, good balance (fairly dry but with a nice bouquet of floral and mineral). It's a composite of 4 traditional varietals: Colombard, Manseng, Ugni and Sauvignon. This is the region where cognacs are made, using those same types of grapes. Colombelle is one good winery, but most others from the same region are also good.

[Image: producteurs-de-plaimont-colombelle-l-ori...384988.jpg]

Marlborough (N Zealand) Sauvignon Blancs are good, a bit more accessible than the French Sauv Blancs both in price and in taste. The king of white wines are the Sauv Blancs from Sancerre, which have a great mineral taste to them. They are a bit cheaper than the high end Chardonnays from Burgundy, in the $20-$30 range. The NZ Sauvs are cheaper yet, you can get a good one like the 3 Stones for under $15. They are a bit more citrusy, with a bit of grapefruit taste, and are popular with noobs and wineheads alike.

For reds, in your budget, I like Argentinian Malbecs. They are more accessible, like new world wines tend to be, but also have an old world class and build due to their franco-italian heritage. Norton, Michel Torino, Montes Alpha are decent ones just over $10.

Here's a good guide, from a good blog focusing on value wines:

http://www.reversewinesnob.com/search/label/malbec

Malbec is a french varietal from the Cahors region, that is also one of the best values for strong, dark reds that are great paired with red meat (grilled steaks esp). Beautiful dark purple color, deep tannins yet accessible price in the teens. The region has been discoverd not too long ago and some wines are pretty expensive, but there are some good accessible mainstays like Clos la Coutale, Chateau de Gaudou. I would do a winesearcher query on those sold in your state, here is a list of affordable Cahors:

http://www.wine-searcher.com/regions-cah...F=cheapest

I cut out a lot of beer drinking and switched to wine and found my sex drive has gone up.
That said, I drink Liberty Creek reds (don't like white wine).
The cab and merlot are good — the pinot noir is okay but a bit watered down.
Skip the sweet red unless you like kool-aid flavored wine.

Cheap shit goes about $8 for 1.5L.

Columbia Crest Two Vines Cabernet Sauvignon.

As an aside, I've noticed the fanciness of the bottle is inversely related to the drinkability of the wine.

Also, it's more than ten bucks, but get some ice wine. It's semi-obscure and tastes like liquid candy- a great reason to invite her back to your place to try it.

Bandit boxed wines.

Surprisingly good shit, considering it's like $8.99 for a liter and comes in cardboard. Several steps up from Yellow Tail and way, way ahead of Carla Rossi, Chuck Shaw, etc.

I found a local place that carries this so I'm going to give it a shot, great portability for camping!

Technically this isn't wine, it's flavored malt beverage, same as a Lime-O-Rita (and those made me puke), etc.

If there's one wine store you go to, make it K&L. Probably my favorite wine store in the city. Wine House is a very close second.

Just go in there and start asking for wines for under $10, they'll have some great recs for you.

Silverlake Wine Store is also surprisingly very very good. I'd go more often if it was closer.

I like Black Mountain at Trader Joes. You can find a lot of wine at Trader Joes under $10, try a lot of them and then find one you like and use it. Black Mountain Merlot is good, but they have Cabernet and white wines as well. $6 each
