It's hard to quote specific posts on the mobile version.

If you're too lazy to put in the legwork yourself to find these gems why are you even here? This forum is about self determination, not spoon feeding.

Isn't this unnecessarily elitist though? Why should we make new members jump through crazy hoops to discover value? I thought the internet is all about promoting ease of access?

We are talking about taking literally a few seconds to include links in a rep point to better help each other find good gems of gold. Somehow, that is against self determination and that is all about spoon feeding?!?!?! Okay. Carry on.

I don't think so, in the early days I searched and read a lot of posts by Giovany via the search. It would take me at best a minute and a half to skim the search page and then open up new tabs in my browser for further reading.

RE: The Proper Way To Give Someone A Rep Point
Come on guys, let's do some thesis-antithesis-synthesis here:

Point: It's convenient for other posters when a link to great posts are included in the rating.
Counterpoint: Sometimes you give rep points for the entire body of work instead of a single post, or you're on your phone.
Solution: Add the link when it's possible and appropriate. Don't if it's not.

No reason to argue the extremes.

Who the fuck are you kid? Ungrateful sack of shit. You should be happy this forum exists for leeches and lurkers like you to come along and be around men with wisdom and knowledge.

You probably would like to defend your man here /thread-49243.html

Seriously, wtf is wrong with people. Come in here with no rep, no contributions and the first thing you do is bitch. How about doing the next jerkoff (CBW says you are not a noob - so edited for accuracy) thing and post something like "Tell me about how to be a man - because I am too lazy to do any work."

Or "Tell me about the Philippines" or "I am going to make a thread to introduce myself rather than add a post to the official introduction thread." Or "I am a big baller."

Feel free to become very defensive.

Edit: Sometimes it is just you have seen the posters contribution over time and realize he is valuable. You might not remember a specific item but you realize he makes this place better - thus no link. But this thought would require being open minded and logical.

Edit: Maybe it is the people who have come in here lately and thought it was Burger King and have it your way. But I just wanna say this.

It's not a great idea to post in this thread unless you have a few decent rep points. Meetup reps count for more in my opinion.

The first post was fine, his reply was where it went sour. A simple, "Just a friendly suggestion, i'll give the search a shot" would have sufficed.

Now we get to roast a newbie.

I am a fast reader too - but there are at least 100 amazing members on this forum, and even the fastest of readers will be pressed for time to read them all.

Being a speed reader shouldn't be a requirement to profit from this place. It takes 2 minutes to link to a post you believe contributed value and saves new members hours.

Make a data sheet you lazy Jerkoff (great name choice).

Too low energy to contribute a data sheet? Instead you just bitch and cry about us being lazy, even though we have contributed MASSIVE value to this forum, that you're leeching off of like a Syrian migrant?

Sad!

You can also use the "Search" at the top of the page to find his noteworthy posts.

If the rep point says, "Superb poster- his contributions show what is possible in life."

or " Dropping knowledge on a variety of topics, one of the best new posters! Keep it up.".

"Most interesting man in the world. Period."

"A real asset to the forum. Has a vast knowledge on several different topics. "

"Phenomenal poster"

None of this gives me stuff to work with. How am I going to know what to search for in the first place? That doesn't tell me anything i can search with. Providing links in rep points helps, giving details and specifics.

One of the thing i like to do is read completely random people's rep points and discover gems. Without links, it makes if more difficult to find gems. It will be labor intensive to find all the good stuff buried under layer of posts. This is also why thread like this is good.

An idea is fine, telling us we are doing something wrong because it doesn't please you is what got you the heat. Please look at your original post, oh nevermind, I don't want to be lazy, let me quote it for you.

Also, one of your points below was basically, "if you can't put a link in the rep, then don't rep the guy." That is what it sounds like. Which is a selfish dick move, don't acknowledge a guy's contributions because there is no link pasted? Go fuck yourself.

An ideal thoughtful post would have been along the lines of:

First of all, I am really grateful to be a new member of this forum. The knowledge shared is great and the camaraderie is pretty awesome. I have noticed that some members rep points have a link to a particularly impressive post or thread. But some do not which makes it a little harder to figure out what the rep point is for. May I suggest that people try to include links if possible? Thanks and have a great day.

To the above post, I would have responded:

Welcome to the forum. You make a good point, but you are not the first. However, it is difficult to regulate people's rep points to make sure there are these links you seek. Sometimes, it is just an overall contribution by a person and not a particular thread/post. When you spend enough time here, you will eventually start seeing the posts that gave them a rep point since they get bumped often and are also referenced in other posts. Also, if I may suggest checking the link in my signature where some memorable RVF comments have been posted. Once again, welcome.

I wish people wouldn't give rep points out for post that don't really add to the forum.
But I'm an elitist. If it's not game, travel, meet up. It's not worth points.

RE: The Proper Way To Give Someone A Rep Point
For me, it's never based upon one post, but from noting a consistent pattern of interesting, insightful posts over time. I figure that this way the judgment is fairly-measured and I'm not steering forum members wrong based upon one flashing moment of brilliance. As such, I've never felt the need to 'take back' a rep point, even if at their lowest ebb lead they ended up creating conflict and getting themselves banned, which I'd view as me behaving dishonourably. Their point was rightfully-earned.

The only downside being that sometimes I'm embarrassed to discover I haven't repped a high-value poster, assuming I'd done it long ago.

"I can count on one hand, literally, the number of women I have ever met that can take that kind of advice, accept it and make use of it without their epic egos setting metaphorical fire to the conversation.

Most women "looking for advice" are in reality looking for someone to validate their cosmic victimhood, because it's not really their fault, because it's never their fault. This behavioural trait isn't absent among men, but when we fail society cares not, while when women fail there is no shortage of comforting platitudes on offer from every vector.

To all of you, apparently it is an offensive and disrespectful idea to recommend that people post links, whenever they give out rep points?!? Cool beans. You keep doing whatever you are doing, and whenever I found something worthwhile to rep somebody about; I will make sure to include links in their rep points. Have a nice day, everybody.

RE: The Proper Way To Give Someone A Rep Point
Where is stated that the purpose of rep points was to be a searchable database of post links for others? This is one guys idea of what rep points should be, and one newbie taking it as gospel.

I've rep'd plenty of guys with a general comment and no link, because of an accumulation of good contributions and not a specific post.

Funny enough, one of those reps was given to you, Samseau.
