Definitely, and then some!

There is billions of $$ in field developments, new exploration, refinery upgrades etc that is currently on hold around the world. Once the price war BS has run its course and the price of oil goes above the $50-60 mark then companies will start to explore/drill etc again the price will rise as demand will outstrip supply. Most people don't realise that companies have to constantly explore, upgrade facilities just to replace current oil inventories as they are used to say nothing of finding fresh discoveries.
It may take a few years, but I think we will look back longingly to the days of $100 oil and lament its passing as $150+ will become a reality.
This may happen sooner than we think as companies struggle to hire competent qualified professionals after having laid off thousands of people who heave all sodded off and found more consistently paying jobs elsewhere.

I certainly hope so but am not overly optimistic, in the short term anyway, unless of course Trump gets elected and start bombing the shit out of ISIS controlled refineries in Iraq and messes with Iran's production and exports. I've read so many articles saying that it will be low for a few more years, and I've read many saying that it could go up to the $70-80 range in the next couple of years, its hard to know what to believe.

One thing this oil crash has been is a big wake up call to a lot of people who got used to easy money and lived beyond their means, which includes myself. I'm single and don't have any kids, my only debt is my mortgage which isn't too expensive, I have a good amount of money invested and saved but I could have had a lot more if I worked more over the past ten years. Last year I took a non-oil job for a few months but didn't really like it so I'm heading back to the patch this year, I should be able to make some decent money during the shut downs but otherwise I"m not expecting a big year.

I hear your pain, I too am in the same situation, no kids and don't live too extravagantly although I am off for a good few months now and its starting to hurt.
I too am trying to take a non oil job, but I am suffering from only having worked in oil and the "real world" is an unknown place to me and I am struggling to market myself successfully, easier said then done!

I think Trump in the Whitehouse would be a good thing, certainly better than a Clinton, but who knows what's around the corner, civil war in Saudi?? These "expert" opinions need to be taken with a pinch of salt. All these so called experts who are so vocal in predicting low crude prices for the next few years didn't see the crash coming did they?

Anyway, keep you pecker up and if you need a Geologist/Project Manager with 15 years experience then give me a shout!

My biggest concern is these alternative energy companies like Tesla. I mean even the main vehicle companies are building more and more electric vehicles. Solar and wind power are also becoming more popular in Alberta. The worst thing I see though is the federal Liberal government borrowing a ton of money, and the provincial NDP running things for potentially a very long time here in Alberta. Trump would turn this all around to a degree in my opinion. He would get the keystone online again and probably start exporting a shitload of crude as well. The Saudis should be scared if he gets in. The world should be scared if that cunt Hilary gets in. So many factors that could prevent us from ever seeing $100 oil again. I'm not expecting things to change overnight, but I'd sure like to see significant changes in the value of oil in the next 5-7 years.

I hear ya, I am not overly political, here in the UK we have not a PM with a spine since Thatcher (which was before my time).

I think Trump would be great, you may not agree with his opinion but at least he has one and is not afraid to speak his mind. We could do with someone like that over here instead we get a succession of public schooled limp-dicks who you wouldn't give a job to even if your life depended on it!

Someone needs to save us from the "Career Politician"!

As for the Saudis, well they could do with being taken down a peg or two. They have far too much influence in the world for a country that simply won the geological lottery and became the US's overseas crude reservoir.

Its the same as its always been for the trades, busy in the spring and fall and slow in the winter (except for pipelines) but even slower this winter with the lack of new construction. Of course the big money jobs aren't as plentiful, they're almost non-existant really but there is plenty of shut down work going now and up until the summer. I've been talking to a few trades buddies and they're all busy, myself, I'm gonna work shut downs around Etown because the work I was offered out of town isn't worth it. I'd rather work six tens in Edmonton, sleep in my own bed and have a life than do the same at a camp up north.

Mobile Crane Operator , was making around $65,000 living in the Lower Mainland . I just switched to a fuel delivery driver in Burnaby . I made 50 grand in 6 months work last year. Union job , work 4 on , 3 off and get to live in BC still instead of that shithole up north . Crazy overtime , I did 80 hours one week . I get paid double time after 48 hours.

I lined up work for the rest of the year, made a couple of phone calls yesterday and within a half hour I had a flight booked to a remote city out of province. I've had a spare room in my condo in Edmonton for the past few months and now it looks like I won't be in Etown for at least another 4-5 months so if any of you are interested in sharing a nice condo with another RVF oil sands guy, let me know by PM, its a newer building in a nice area.

Realistically what job could someone with just a college degree in a business related field and no experience in regard for the oil fields find in the oil sands right now?

If it's business related degree, a sales representative for an oil company might be more relevant. But most unskilled jobs don't really require a degree anyway.

I second guess on you this. The price of oil will also affect the alternative vehicles. With the lower oil prices, gas gazzlers will be attractive. Also I think we are ssing increases in sales of trucks and SUVs already...
I think when oil comes back, it will come back with a bang as it as always does

Well life just dealt me a huge kick in the nut sack. I flew to a job site about a week ago and began a gig where I was working 12s, staying at a nice hotel and getting $95/day LOA, everything was great until the contractor couldn't pay their bills so we got yanked off site. I got the call at 11pm during my night shift and two contractor reps had to supervise myself and two coworkers off the site to make sure that we didn't fuck shit up or steal anything. So now I'm unemployed again and looking for work, I'm pretty sure I'll find a new gig easily enough but I'm pretty bummed out because I was on a big money job with great co-workers and am not sure where the fuck I'll end up next. One thing I do know though is that I'm having a few cold ones tonight!

What trade are you Scotian? We're waiting to hear about an upcoming job at Horizon any day now. We will need fitters welders and ironworkers soon. My girlfriends company got another project on site as well which is a 2 year project and hires the same trades. PM me for more info.
