In my life alcohol was associated with all the cluster of metabolic syndrome symptoms-- gaining weight, sore back, depression, low T symptoms, and it is hard to get back to a healthy weight when your recovery is slowed by aging. So far zero alcohol, careful measurement food portions, and careful exercise without going too close to 100% are helping. Being alone too much is bad, friends are buried in careers or family now.

yes, no question. But be sure to take this on smartly, there are many issues that you need to be up to speed at, else its like any other drug that you might take with no idea how its going to fuck up your body.

If you are considering TRT then step 1 is to get blood work done to see what your numbers are right now. You can do this cheaply away from your insurance via privatemdlabs.com for $47 just to get your T numbers alone. And here is a %15 off coupon code: PKCR45.

You pay via their website using the discount code after selecting the tests you want. They send you a pdf of a lab slip that you print off your computer and take to a LabCorp lab for blood draw, get the draw, go home. 24-48 hrs later you get the lab results by email in pdf. I've used it a few times, couldn't be easier and you are dealing with a real lab just like you would if your doc told you to get some blood work done.

Just "Total T" is the bare minimum, if you are serious about going down this path then E2, LH, and other markers are good to get tested for an monitor as well.

/threadjack

@NCS I checked out the site and they have a whole ton of tests. One of the things I am learning is that you can have plenty of T and still not be able to utilize it. Primarily you need to ensure you do not have high cortisol levels and excessive inflammation in your body mainly in your gut.

Are you familiar with this and have you checked these issues also? I am still learning but it makes a lot of sense.

Still doing some checking and the issue of inflammation comes up again and again. We know carbs are bad and protein is good. But what is not widely known is why and how it affects us. The reason is that protein gives us energy but also because it builds muscle and helps with the production of testosterone. It balances out our metabolism. It also does not cause the overproduction of insulin which causes insulin insensitivity which cause obesity, fat guts even when you do work out and insulin insensitivity causes, further inflammation which will cause the more cortisol in your system, a feminizing hormone.

Another thing that is not widely known is that fat is good for you. Just ask the eskimos. They have some of the lowest incidences of heart disease in the world. Animal fats, oils from nuts, such as olives and coconuts. But oils from grains such as corn, soybean (a real killer) and canola, vegetable oil, are bad and cause further inflammation. And the hardening of the cell walls. Also cholesterol is a good thing. It is made by your body and is a benefit to your body. However what becomes a problem is the overproduction of cholesterol, which is caused by...

...you guessed it inflammation. If you can stop inflammation you can stop about 80% of most chronic health issues. Things such as obesity, diabetes, dementia, arthritis, chronic pain, joint pain, heart disease, low T, overproduction of estrogen in males, low energy, depression, anxiety, and on and on. Any of this sound familiar men over 40?

So the key is how do you stop the inflammation so you don't have to take things like injecting Testosterone, or high blood pressure meds, or statin drugs (another killer), or pain meds, or all of the other medications we are taking?

Well low carb is good and step in the right direction but it is just part of the solution.

Get on the South Beach diet phase 1 for 2 weeks, its hard, but minimise carbs. Try to live with low carbs, dont eat a big meal in the evening, just have a good lunch and small dinner ..in the evening, eat food low on the glycemic index...stop the Alcohol.

Also if your getting to 50+ read this link and try it out, feel like im 25 after doing this for 6 months..not sure you can do it indefinetly ..but try it.

Looks like im preaching to the unconverted here..dont knock it till you have tryed it with gf, if you want a clear head because you have a high profile position and dont like drinking because of the hangovers ( they hit you when your older).. its worth a try ..the euphoria is great , and it makes you as smooth as hell with the ladies, i guess i will get some strange responses to this ..but a lot of my mates over 45 use it and hold down high profile positions, plus the women love it too,but hey you know best ..alcohol is the worst drug imho.

Seriously now - yes - there are drugs out there which are by far less destructive than alcohol.

Also alcohol now is more a toxic brew in most cases - beer, but also cheap booze and even wine - all have been tempered with and have nothing to do with the one sold 40 years ago.

Apart from that we know that pure and modest doses of pot, cocaine are more healthy than the same in alcohol (unless it's pure old-school organic-like alcohol).

Haven't looked into MDMA, so could be one of those things as well. As far as health and science is concerned you have to look for various studies - not only the mainstream ones - to find a more complete level of truth. Don't know if that is the case with MDMA.

im with u mate...no idea why they are saying 'clown' because proper MDMA is amazing. Obviously never tried it. There is simply nothing quite like it.

Having said that it is a substance that u need to be responsible with, u dont want to be doing it every weekend. It takes time for serotonin levels to replenish. There is no way it is good for you. But used responsibly every now and then...why not.

Only pure MDMA ..and used responsibly once every two weeks or so with close friends, or like minded people..it verges on a religious experience..and the glow remains for a few days after, its a serotonin high.

I guess this is europe and it is more accepted and readily available here than in the US, but it a choice experience among high profile people here. Id prefer this than drinking , smoking or anything else , of course anything is a vice if its controls you ..but i actually find it helps break down social anxiety ..and with gf it drives them crazy ..they just want to touch , hug, sex ..you reach a higher level of interaction, it has to be experienced and i leave that to individuals , ps Im no clown☺

MDMA ...right what about coming down like a bag of shit for 3 or 4 days?Depression etc.Don't think there isn't a price to pay..As for "pure" ,says who? The FDA?

I'd rather be hung over for a day....And people have been dropping it since the 80's in clubs aka Ecstasy .But now it's a super drug the only reason they took it was because coke was too expensive.

And I did the dance/house/rave party scene from Sydney, LA, London, Ibiza in the 90s....and still think MDMA is a load of shit.No way would I take it or tell other blokes to pop one.

Never ever. My opinion is that you should never take this "chemical" shit.
Pills, powder, whatever.
I know way too many people who started taking chemical drugs back in the 90s when this Techno-thing came up.
Most of them are either stuck on it/mentally ill or their body/face looks like they're over 50 years old.
Its just not worth it, since you'll never know what they put in.

Damn, hard drugs after 40? I can barely even stand getting drunk these days (sorry, I sneaked into this thread a few weeks before turning 39).
I took a lot of coke, amphetamine and occasionally ecstasy and mushrooms/LSD in my early 20s and I was totally burned out and fed up with it after less than a year (tried a few times over the next few years and despised the "hangovers"). Most of my friends kept taking it for quite a while longer, though fortunately most of them did manage to quit the hard drugs relatively early in life, as far as I'm aware (no contact to all but a few for many years).

i say no more, i have to add context to my statements, i don't drink Alcohol, i stay fit, i have my own company in Switzerland and once every two weeks or so i do this with close friends. I guess i'm painting the picture of a crackhead, but i just prefer a saturday night with friends or out at a club mildly high, nuff said.

Another issue on the men over 40 issue about Testosterone. Has anyone tried any natural ways to increase T? Such as supplements and different types of excercise? I know this has been discussed on here, but from an over 40 perspective?

Has there been any good results. Medical science says that anything with a T level between 250 and 1200 is considered normal. That is a huge variance and tells me almost nothing. That may be normal but I doubt if it is healthy.

What do you experts consider normal or good or high for a man over 40 or over 50?

Yeah, it's been discussed on several threads. 250 is low, even over 40. Basically, most docs don't know how to deal with testosterone, and the "normal" range is deceiving. 250 may be normal for an overweight, sedentary slob, but you don't want to be that guy.

I have never had much luck with natural boosters, at least not long term. Best thing you can do is not trip yourself up: get enough sleep, fix your diet, don't drink too much, work with heavy weights (I think combat sports are just as good), generally avoid stress and deal with the stress you have productively - don't go out and tie one on just because you had a bad day. Go work out or do martial arts or play ball or whatever gets you in the moment and makes you forget about the bullshit in your life.

A few threads with background. LINUX's thread is a goto, he breaks down the process better than anywhere I've seen.
/thread-44354.html

2 other good threads:
/thread-28966.html

/thread-23718.html

Also MikeCF's Danger & Play site has a lot of good test supplementation info.

What do you experts consider normal or good or high for a man over 40 or over 50?

Tribulus ( use mediherb by standard process as it's the highest quality) - frees up bound testosterone in the body.

M+X by Systemic Formulas - regulates and normalizes male hormones.

Simplex M by Standard process - balances out hormones in men and regulates the sex hormones.

Nettle Root ( again, I use mediherb by Standard Process) - good for prostate health and male hormones.

I have used these with good results.

I don't use tribulus and M+X. It's an either/or deal for me.

Dosages? Each man will vary. I determined mine by going to a Nutrition Response practitioner. Their methods work for me in terms of helping determine which ones are needed and the right dosages/combinations for me.

According to my doctor today, I can no longer do the martial art I've pursued for the past twenty years. It was a full-contact weapon form with body armor and my days of being a contender are over. Sucks because I haven't had much time to do it the last five years. Which means I'll have to find some soft form or go crazy from lack of a physical challenge.
What the hell. I'm only 57 and I thought there were Akido masters in their 90's.

Yeah and I had a head of IM at a highly respected local hospital group tell me at 45 that I was too old to lift. We wanted me to stop. I fired him. 3 years later I'm in better shape than Michaelangelos David and have perfect bloodwork. Did I mention my 8-pack?

Why did your doc tell you to stop?

Problems in my legs. Venous insufficiency its called. I just got out of the hospital from a blot clot and I have to radically alter my diet. I've had infections in the past with the legs and they're worried the next time it could be real bad. Combine that with the blot clot and I am in deep shit. No trauma risks at all for the next six months period. After that I may have to find another sport. Problem is, don't follow your doctor, insurance has ever ground not to pay the bill.
The difference between lifting and a martial art is the lifting bar isn't normally used to smash you in the gut. Smile

What do you experts consider normal or good or high for a man over 40 or over 50?

I use D-Aspartic acid 2500 mg a day , has made a big difference in many aspects of life ..libido, energy, boners, mood ...
