The entire topic reminds me direct situations of my extended family who fled Poland in 1981 to Austria. Back then the officials were flooded by the migrants too. People lived for months in barracks and make-shift locations.

But somehow those times were free of rape, chaos and outrageous demands or entitlement. If the Western governments had closed the borders, then the people would have turned around and returned to Poland while fearing an invasion of the Soviets (they had already amassed tanks on the borders back then).

I have even seen personal pics of some of those Polish migrants from those times. They said that roughly 50% were families and even many single women. The young single women almost instantly moved out shacking up with Austrian men. Sometimes the wives moved with their children alone and there was little conflict. It took often 6-18 months to find apartments for the folk, but people were grateful nonetheless, since back then the communist economy was terrible and meat was a rare delicacy seen at best once every 2 weeks. Also the Western economy was good and almost 100% of them found work soon enough.

And there was little problem with "integration", different mentality or different religion. The second generation outperformed the local population academically and are utterly melted with the new country.

So no - not all migrants are equal and not all times are equally good to make it happen.

Proving that ACTUAL border policing actions are easy, efficient and doable.
