About this project

What we’re doing.

We’re here on Kickstarter trying to raise finishing funds for our feature documentary “The Red Pill”. We’re all done filming, we have well over 100 hours of captivating footage, we can see the final film in our mind’s eye; however, we just don’t have the funding to get to that finish line, so we need your help!

Why we’re doing it.

This film was born out of Cassie Jaye’s curiosity to meet the Men’s Rights Activists, but what she didn’t expect was to be taken on a life-altering journey where she would never see the world the same way again. The original “why” was “why not?”, but the “why” became: because we have to share this incredible journey!

Watched the trailer. It's interesting, I'd like to see it when it is released. I worry that her "own personal journey" will be a big focus of the movie as opposed to objective discourse on the issues.

Cassie Jaye: WA (Would Approach) in a heartbeat.

The Film: it looks intriguing. I hope CJ's "life-altering journey" will ultimately bring her (and others) a better balance. Twenty-eight days (menstrual cycle length) of funding left to go with 4k in her kitty as of now. I need to find out more about CJ before possibly throwing some greenbacks down. Does she have an OKC profile?

If they already have the footage I can't understand a kick starter [Especially another 90k]. Documentary film making is amongst the easiest to edit [Which is all they would require money for] and if it's an engaging story they don't require a kick starter for distribution. That would all be done via a distributor interested in the project.

From the footage it really is professional grade work. The red pill message seems to be positive. I'm just at a loss as to what they need to fund? If it's editing I know many people including myself who would do it for free [My only guess is that the archival footage rights cost a fortune].

Well the problem is this, appears at first glance, as not being virulently anti-MRA. So there's no victimbux opportunity there. Any cries of "misogyny" from her, whether real or feigned, would be met with "well she deserves it for supporting RAPE ADMIRERS!"

Any shithead who on their kickstarter page doesn't want to reveal any of the conclusions she had is offering a Trojan Horse. This is an attempt to pull money out of the MRA crowd by superficially looking like she's supportive of their causes, but I predict the film will be edited in such a way as to make them look fucking foolish and end with a statement "Well, I've seen both sides, but the feminist rebuttals convince me!"

Do not support. This thing is an epic troll. Her prior record includes a "documentary" (read: advocacy) for same sex families.

If she didn't break down how the money is to be spent it could be some of it is going to her. I've seen a bunch of kickstarters where the movie makers thought they should get paid. Which is fine but at least be upfront about it.

She is asking for 100k to make a documentary.

I don't think that's a terribly unreasonable asking price. I do think that she probably works a regular day job and might have unpaid staff managing her shit (i.e; gender studies or theater major interns) and that a third of this 100k is going straight to her student loan bill.

On the upside, she's definitely taking her time with it (two and a half years of research? why?), but depending on the backers she's accepting, she's going to have to inject a feminist slant into it or risk alienating the only people who are likely to drop coin on it (internet armchair feminist activists).

Two and a half years could make some of that footage irrelevant. 100k and she has already shot all of the it and just needs to edit it? Unless she is putting a bunch of animations and graphics that post production budget is too much. Unless some of it will be used for p & a or she wants to four wall it because no distributor thinks it is good enough to get a theatrical release.

This is quite possibly the case. The 9 minute preview seems fairly balanced on the face of it, although as one redditor put it, its suspicious that the segments with MRAs have music provoking uncertainty, while the feminist segment music is calming and reassuring.

From the looks of this trailer, her film is called "The Red Pill" but:

- she doesn't interview any actual Red Pill authors or personalities
- she gets TRP and the MRM mixed up
- she doesn't describe any actual Red Pill philosophy (male self-improvement, sexual strategy, Game, AFBB, hypergamy, the true nature of women, etc.)
- she presents it from a feminist viewpoint - see above point about the music presented for the MRM personalities vs. the feminist personalities - even though feminists have advocated genocide for real and no one in TRP or the MRM has.

Honestly, part of me doesn't really have much of a problem with this. I kind of like TRP, the manosphere, and male self-improvement being something you have to seek out and find, and have an open mind and a willingness to put real work in to be, and if a chunk of people are misled by this documentary, oh well. I know it's wrong on some level but it's how I feel.

To be fair she started the project before /r/TheRedPill blew up on reddit, back when the manosphere only had 3 real branches; MGTOW, MRA and PUA.

Also, the AVoiceForMen MRA site had 'Take the Red Pill' as its site motto for years.

These days 'Red Pillers' have a fairly well defined ideology that differs from the other branches of the manosphere, so there's some confusion on why the doco is called The Red Pill when its about MRAs.

Nah, it's probably more subversion. They'll give the mra guys some token lines and then counterpoint their (likely) watered down arguments with some feminist duckspeak to look like they're trying to meet somewhere in the ideologically safe middle ground. Just the fact that the movie is called The Red Pill and they saw it necessary to put feminist rebuttals in it tells you everything you need to know.

I'd be really interested to know if this documentary ends up being a proper, unbiased documentary or just another anti-male propaganda piece.
