It looks like a manageable introduction to India for me, I've never been there. I'll stay in that area, within Kerala.

I was in Mui Ne for two nights last week. The beaches are nasty. Trash everywhere in the water and on the sand. I think the beaches owned by resorts are cleaner, but I forgot my passport and had to take a hotel 5 miles between the beaches in Phan Thiet and Mui Ne. Despite that little setback, I would definitely come back here in the future. Soon.

The quality of the tourists here is soooo much better than District 1 in Saigon. I attribute the increase 100% to the high number of Russian girls in Mui Ne. All of the signs on the main stretch are in Vietnamese, English and Russian. I usually don't like touristy places like that, but it's pretty cool. I was here during Vietnam's second major holiday--last week was King's Day, Reunification Day and Labor Day, so the town was packed to the gills with Vietnamese tourists.

And despite the fact that it's really touristy and I went during a holiday, the prices weren't that bad. Food costs about the same as Saigon. I rarely say this, but the scenery was breathtaking. Ignoring the dirty beaches, the intersection of the ocean, the sandy hillsides next to the beach, and the red dunes further inland are out of this world. You could probably clean up here in a decent guesthouse on the beach if you focused on tourists.

And if you do come here from Saigon, make sure you take the coastal roads instead of the god-awful highway 1A. It's worth the extra couple hours.

For phone apps, as CR mentioned, the people nearby feature on WeChat can work quite well, and has less hookers on it since the nationwide sin crackdown last february. Your experience, of course, may vary.

I've only used TanTan in the US and Europe, but I am told the results are excellent in China. I'd give it a shot - not so easy to set up without some mandarin tho (or some help).

Arrived in Belgrade with a whole day free to explore around before boarding my flight.

Got disgusted by the complete absence of even remotely usable toilets anywhere in the very heart of the city (including both public and business ones!!!), gave up and went to the airport early to enjoy some international standards. Now I have some time to kill but at least I can perform my bodily functions without puking.

I don't know what's the deal with Serbia and shit, but honestly I've seen and used better-maintained pit latrines than their "toilets".

I heard the best Oktoberfest is in Stuttgart, not Munich. Much more authentic, and not played out and touristy. Haven't been though.

I actually laughed out loud at a stop light yesterday because there was a group of three limp-wristed effeminate backpackers wearing these. 95% of western women already wear these in Saigon, but this is a new low. Also saw a tourist wearing an ao dai top with denim shorts. So fucking disgraceful.

On a positive note, my new best joke in Vietnamese is to put on a surprised face and shout "So fat!!!" whenever a wildebeest stamps down the sidewalk. Gets 'em every time.

I collect pajama pants, kind of. I have a collection of first class pjs from flights and some well worn pairs in flannel, egyptian cotton. I wore a pair of pinstriped cotton ones on a recent boat trip in Panama after I changed out of my swim suit. ICGAF. Comfort is king.

Lest we forget (and I don't want to start a debate about the causes/outcomes of the war), the Viet Cong beat back the Americans in the 70's whilst wearing pajamas. That's power.
